Story

In the 70s of the last century, Moscow began to urgently need sources of water supply. To solve the problem, they chose to create an artificial pool on the right tributary of the Volga - the Vazuza River. There are no large industries on its banks, which means the reservoir is clean. Moreover, it flows not far from the Ruza, which flows into Moscow. This allows you to regulate the waters of the main river of the capital.

The Vazuz reservoir was built in 1978. The area of ​​flooded land was about 100 square kilometers. Along with the Yauzsky and Verkhneruzsky reservoirs, it became part of the Vazuzsky hydraulic system. Later, other parts of it were built: canals, hydroelectric power stations. As a result, the most remote part of the Moscow water supply system was formed. Now the artificial lake is used for these purposes, as well as for sport and recreational fishing.

Peculiarities

The Vazuzskoe reservoir flows within the boundaries of the Zubtsovsky district of the Tver region with the Sychevsky and Gagarinsky districts of the Smolensk region. The earthen dam reaches a height of 35 meters, and a length of slightly less than 900 meters, with a length of 84 kilometers. However, it is quite narrow. On average, the distance between the banks is 600 meters. In the widest places this figure barely exceeds two kilometers.

The average depth of the Vazuz reservoir is about five meters. There are also whirlpools - about 28 meters. There are no sources of pollution on the coast of the reservoir. The main negative factor is the flow of the Gzhati River, where municipal wastewater from the city of Gagarin goes. The bottom of the artificial lake is mostly covered with sand, silt and clay. In some places the water area is snarled and covered with sedge, reeds and reeds. In winter, the reservoir freezes. Ice sets in at the end of November and usually melts in mid-spring. Only during these periods is fishing on the Vazuz reservoir interrupted.

There are bodies of water that you remember all your life. Of course, I had to catch them more often, and the catches were memorable for their impressiveness. My favorite reservoirs were Vazuzskoye, Yauzskoye, Ivankovskoye, Uglichskoye and Rybinsk. Of course, not everything went smoothly when fishing here. It happened when even from these reservoirs came empty. But still, a good knowledge of the topography of the bottom of the reservoir, the conditions under which this or that fish comes out to feed at certain points, ensured success.

There is not enough space to describe all the episodes of fishing even in such a large newspaper as “Russian Hunting”. I will give only a brief overview of my favorite reservoirs.

VAZUZSKOE

It is the largest in the Vazuz reservoir system. The total length is about 100 km, width up to 3 km. Water level differences are from 3 to 5 m. The reservoir was formed as a result of blocking the Vazuza River. It has many large and small bays extending from the main branches. The most extensive reach is located in the lower part of the reservoir. The depths on the riverbed are up to 10-15 m, the depth in the area of ​​the dam is up to 30 m. In the upper part of the reservoir, the banks are low-lying, swampy, in the lower part they are steep. There are many forests along the banks.

The reservoir is famous for its abundance of pike, bream, roach, perch, silver bream, bleak, and ruff. Sometimes you come across burbot, asp, ide, dace, and carp. On the reach near the village. In Dubinino in winter, large bream go well on baited holes. They fish along the edges of the riverbed. This fish is also caught here in the summer from boats.

Spinners look for pike in the bays in the summer, and on the edges of the riverbed in the fall. It is better to install winter girders for pike in bays along the flooded beds of tributaries. On the first ice the catches are quite impressive. Roach and perch are sometimes well caught using black devils on the last ice in the bays. It is necessary to select irrigation areas closer to the tributary bed with a depth of 2.5-4.5 m.

YAUZSKOE

A beautiful reservoir, with a small number of villages along the banks. Forests rich in natural gifts stretch along the banks, which makes your vacation even more exciting. In this reservoir, during certain periods, you can fish well for large roach, pike perch, pike, and bream.

Yauzskoe is the second largest reservoir of the Vazuz system. It is located almost entirely in the Smolensk region, 210 km from Moscow in the Riga direction. The reservoir consists of two branches. One stretches approximately 15 km from Karmanovo to the north, the second - 20 km from Karmanovo to the east. The second branch is most visited by fishermen. In its center there is a wide reach with bays extending from it. The banks are gentle and steep in places, almost everywhere covered with forest. The average depth at irrigation is 3-5 m, on the riverbed 11-15 m. The difference in water level during the year can be 2 m. Roach, bream, and among predators - perch, pike and pike-perch, are caught in the summer with a spinning rod and with mugs in the village area Pudyshi. The best time to hunt for pike perch is the second half of summer. They catch it in circles using bleak in places where this fish comes out in large numbers.

Near the village of Orzhaniki in the summer, with bait from chopped worms, they successfully catch tench using float rods, choosing places near the reeds. Large bleak and roach are caught well with wire rods along the tributaries flowing into the bays. Anglers find the most suitable areas for winter fishing for bream with jigs and float gear on the reach opposite the village of Savino. Here, pike perch are occasionally caught on the girders and steep lures. Roach accumulate en masse on the last ice in the bays near the villages of Savino and Orzhaniki. Sometimes in snag-laden bays you can catch pike and burbot using live bait gear. There are two private fishing bases in the village of Savino.

IVANKOVSKOE

This reservoir also attracts fishermen and simply nature lovers with the beauty of the surrounding landscapes; it is the highest on the Volga River. It arose in 1936 as a result of blocking the Volga with a dam near the village of Ivankovo ​​and is otherwise called the Moscow Sea. It stretches 80 km in length, with a width of 2-5 km, the maximum width is 12 km. Average depths are 3-5 m, maximum depths are up to 19 m. There are up to 300 islands in the reservoir; it is located almost entirely in the Tver region. The banks are low, mostly covered with forests. Everywhere, coastal zones are mainly vast shallows, creating conditions for good feeding of fry and, accordingly, rapid growth of predators: pike perch, pike, perch. On the banks of the Ivankovo ​​Reservoir there are several hunting and fishing bases owned by different societies and private entrepreneurs.

At the end of summer and autumn there are good catches of perch on the “boilers” in the Shosha Reach area. It is sometimes possible to catch large numbers of perch using a jig from a boat in the channels overgrown with reeds between the islands. In winter, lovers of float fishing catch bream and bream in baited holes everywhere along the Volga riverbed with varying degrees of success. But there are a lot of tapeworms, especially when fishing in summer at shallow depths. It is worth looking for winter perch with a spoon and jig in the Korovinsky and Fedorovsky bays.

However, the Moscow Sea is most attractive for pike-perch fishermen. From a boat and from the ice, pike perch is caught by vertical trolling along the border of the channel in the area of ​​the villages of Novo-Melkovo, Staro-Melkovo, Gorodishche and to the left of Nizovka Island. Another pike perch spot is located near the bridge over Shoshinsky Reach (Moscow - St. Petersburg highway). In the area of ​​the bridge, the current is so strong that in some winters the ice does not freeze on the riverbed. Walleye fish usually prefer places along the edges of the riverbed, where the current allows the spoon or balancer to control the bottom. Even in the dead of winter, pike perch behave quite actively here, obviously due to the good oxygen regime in this area. An autopsy of the caught pike perch shows that, in addition to small fish, the pike perch here feeds on amphipods, bloodworms and other aquatic organisms, which actively move here, unlike in choked areas, and become easy prey for fish. The game gave a good result when, after swinging and lowering the spoon, 10-20 cm of fishing line still fell to the bottom. Then the spoon was dragged along the bottom, and at that moment a bite followed. I repeatedly successfully used the same technique on the Volga bed during the opening of the locks.

UGLICH

Another wonderful fish reservoir. Vast and picturesque fishing grounds attract many Moscow fishermen here, although this body of water is not so close to Moscow. The reservoir has spacious water areas interspersed with a large number of islands. It is inhabited by pike perch, pike, perch, burbot, catfish, bream, roach, silver bream, ide, tench, ruffe, and bleak.

One of the most visited areas is located near the Sknyatino station. Not far from the station there are two fishing bases. Good places for various types of fishing can be found along the flooded channels of the Nerl, Pechukhna and Volga. In summer, bream, white bream, and silver bream are successfully caught here from boats in feeding areas. It is better to look for roach, ide, tench and perch closer to the algae. In autumn and winter, burbot is found at pre-channel depths with sandy-rocky soil and minimal silt. In the snowy floodplain of Pechukhnya in winter there are a large number of garrisons. The catches are dominated by small and large pike. Schools of large roach stay along the flooded bed of the Nerl on the so-called “shelves”.

A few kilometers below Sknyatin is Novoakatovsky Bay. Not far from it there is an island, beyond which pike perch are caught on the riverbanks all winter with varying success. A good bite occurs during periods when the floodgates are opened and the current increases. However, on weekends the current is usually weak. Not far from the island, if you go upstream, the flooded bed of the Volga bends in a double loop. According to my observations, this is the most judgmental area. There are several good places for catching “fanged” in the area of ​​the Kashinsky Bridge. Not far from it, the Kashinka River flows into the reservoir. At the exit from the river, they sometimes catch very good pike perch, both in the summer from a boat with vertical lures, and in the winter with spoons and girders.

RYBINSKOE

Who among the fishing lovers does not dream of relaxing near its fish-rich expanses! Otherwise it is called the Rybinsk Sea. The reservoir lies in the Mologo-Sheksninskaya lowland. It began to fill in 1940 as a result of blocking the Volga riverbed near the village of Perebory. The filling of the bowl continued until 1947. 600 villages and the city of Mologa were resettled from the territory planned for the reservoir. The banks are mostly low, wooded, and sometimes swampy and meadow. The Darwin Nature Reserve is located in the northern part of the reservoir. Vast layers of peat, sometimes with trees, periodically break away from the northwestern part, resulting in floating islands. The reservoir contains a lot of pike, pike perch, large roach and perch, bream, blue bream, silver bream, burbot, and ruffe. There are ide, catfish, and asp.

I managed to catch roach well in some years in the area of ​​​​the villages of Borok and Breytovo. On the last ice, fishing was productive using a jig with a nozzle and using a devil. In April-May, I waded with a summer jig, looking for changes in depth at the bottom. In the spring, large sea roach enter the canal near Bork, sometimes even after the ice has melted - ide. These fish are caught, as well as pike, perch, and bluegill at the mouth of the Sutka. Sometimes schools of large roach move along the riverbed to the highway bridge. On the last ice, large roach are sometimes caught close to the shore, where the depth is only a few centimeters. At the mouth of the City in March there is a good bite of roach, bream, and perch. In the middle of winter, opposite Breitov and opposite the mouth of the Mologa, pike perch, pike, and burbot are caught using girdles and spoons. With jigs and devils, anglers look for schools of bluegill, bream, roach, silver bream, and perch. Finding fish is made easier by the presence of an echo sounder and a snowmobile. Many anglers use binoculars to watch groups of anglers. If the number of fishermen increases in one place, it means that the fish have started to fish.

In the area of ​​the village of Legkovo, on a wide stretch of water, roach, perch, bream, and bluegill are caught in winter and summer. Here, on the edges with a depth of 5-8 m, you can find large schools of perch. They are caught using winter lures and balance beams from boats in the summer, and from ice in the winter. On coastal rocky and pebble floodplains and closer to the edges of flooded riverbeds, burbot are caught with ruff baits. From August to October, perch can be caught well with spinning rods on “boilers” throughout the reservoir. Cauldrons are detected by clusters of seagulls circling above the water. In summer, many anglers practice trolling. For this purpose, they use boats that are stable on waves and can quickly cover long distances. They catch fish by trolling at certain “points”, which are detected using a GPS navigator. Good pike and zander areas are located on the border with the Darwin Nature Reserve.

Rest on the Vazuz reservoir

Visitors highlight the main advantages of staying here. The size of the reservoir allows you to accommodate all guests, and, if desired, do so in privacy. Any point on the lake can be reached by car.

There are recreation centers on the shores, where tourists are offered both rooms and individual cottages. They rent fishing equipment, boats, and barbecues. Adventure lovers set up “savage” campsites on the coast; there is enough space for this. Here you can have a good rest on vacation or just on the weekend.

In summer, most choose to camp in the numerous campsites near the villages:

For lovers of the textbook float, fishing on Vazuza will be a real holiday for the soul.

Here you can show all your skills, craftsmanship and dexterity, changing gear and bait for different breeds. You can fish both from the shore and from a boat, which will bring special pleasure in the constant current maintained by the work of powerful pumps in the Dubinino area. Here the fish are always well fed, so it is almost impossible to leave without a good catch.

Pike are the best in these places, pike perch and perch are a little worse. Everyone chooses the depth themselves; the best bite is at a depth of 7 meters.

The coveted tench is also found here, but it is difficult to catch. At the same time, the bite of roach and silver bream continues unceasingly.

Local inhabitants are not spoiled by newfangled complementary foods and bait. A good old dung worm works great, which can be dug up here, as well as any common food for carp breeds, mixed with local water and soil.

For donkey lovers, we recommend the section from Dubinino to Vyrodovo, where roach, bream and silver bream await you. The unhurried current, the calming wind and the silvery arrows of schools of fish are the best cure for all illnesses and worries.

People travel to Vyrodovo with a spinning rod. There are many branches with snags where valuable prey awaits: pike and perch. If you are going to such places, stock up on poppers and non-snags. The best time to go after a predator is during the feeding season - late summer, early autumn, then you can take your trophy pike!

For pike perch, it is best to go to the vicinity of Popsuevo. This fish loves deep water, holes with a neat sandy bottom. Trolling from small boats with outboard motors is allowed in this area, so this exciting fishing method is also available to everyone.

Fishing in winter

In winter, the choice of fishing spots is noticeably narrowed. This can be explained in one word - safety. It is recommended to choose a place near these villages:

• Igurovo.
• Blagodatnoe.
• Vyrodovo.
• Dubinino.
• Bread.
• Millstone.
• Zazerki.
• Nikolskoye.

Here, at any time of the year, you can stay at the recreation centers “Khlepen” and “Country Club” . You can either rent a standard room or rent an entire cottage. The territory has everything for relaxation if you come with your family: food, recreational facilities, the opportunity to learn navigation, barbecue, billiard rooms and animators for the youngest guests.

In winter, the linen bites well using a combination of a jig and a bloodworm; you can also make a feeder with a hook and a bloodworm. In the Igurovo area it is better to place girders, which are excellent predators. You can catch bait in the form of a large ruff there.

Near Zhernovka there are places with many holes where burbot wait, but finding them in winter is quite difficult, even if you have an echo sounder with you. Burbot also goes well to the girders, but if you don’t have someone with you who knows these places well, it’s better to leave this sly one until next time.

If you don’t have a snowmobile, you can also rent one at recreation centers or from local residents, thus you will significantly expand your capabilities and fishing will turn into a real winter fairy tale in Vazuza.

Fishing restrictions

Do not forget that there are sectors on the Vazuz reservoir that are included in the list of spawning areas; they are subject to fishing restrictions during the corresponding periods.

In order to avoid communication with the fisheries authorities in an unpleasant context, it is not recommended to use nets and other poaching devices on the territory of the reservoir.

When leaving with a good mood and an excellent catch, take all the garbage with you and deliver it to a specialized place (there are enough of them).
