Natural characteristics

Sebezh Lake is located 126 m above sea level. The reservoir is impressive in size and is considered one of the largest in the area. The area of ​​the lake is 15.8 sq. km. It has an elongated shape, stretches from southwest to northeast for 7 km, width is 3 km.

It is a basin of glacial origin. The banks are high, the coastal soil is sandy, the bottom is sandy and muddy.

The greatest depth of Lake Sebezh reaches 12 m, the average is 5 m.

The reservoir is flowing, from the east the Cherneya River flows into it, and the Ugarinka River, or Ugorinka, flows out in the area of ​​the settlement of the same name on the western bank.

From November-December until the end of April, the surface of the lake is covered with ice. In summer, the upper layers of water warm up to +20 °C and above. The greatest amount of precipitation falls in summer and early autumn. The range of lake level fluctuations is about 1.5 meters.

Where does the Dnieper River end?

Below Kakhovka the mouth of the Dnieper is formed. The river divides into several branches, and a large river delta is formed. Its area is about 350 square meters. km. This is a very beautiful place with a huge number of islands and lakes.

The Dnieper River flows into the Dnieper Estuary, which is an integral part of the Black Sea. This estuary is deep enough, so sea vessels and ships from the sea can sail along it all the way to Kherson.

The ichthyological type of the lake is bream-pikeperch. Among the most frequently encountered fish species are acclimatized pike perch, roach, tench, silver bream, rudd, burbot, bleak, perch, ruffe, bream, and eel. There are also crucian carp, but they are quite difficult to catch, according to local fishermen. Mostly rudd, less often roach, bream, silver bream, perch, and bleak are caught.

The beauty of the lake, as well as the sparsely populated and leisurely life of the local settlements, contribute to a pleasant pastime.

One of the favorite spots for fishermen is the confluence of the Ugorinka River and Lake Orono. The river flow is quite fast, the depth is shallow, and the water is highly transparent. It is recommended to arrive early to catch larger fish, and using constant feeding will increase the chances of a good catch.

Recreation center "Baklanovo"

The Baklanovo base is located in a clean forest, in the national park of the Smolensk region “Smolenskoye Poozerye”, near the village of Baklanovo.

Lake Baklanovskoye is of glacial origin. It is among the deepest and cleanest reservoirs in the Smolensk region.

Types of fish that are found in this reservoir:

silver bream, ruffe, crucian carp, rudd, bream, perch, gudgeon, roach, bleak, pike, ide.

The most attractive places for fishing are the bays in the southern part, as well as fishing around the large island, which is located in the middle of Lake Baklanovskoye. There are nineteen species of fish in the lake, most of them perch and roach (cases of catching these specimens weighing 1-1.5 kg are not uncommon). You can fish both from the shore and from a boat. Fans of spinning fishing can hunt for predatory fish. In baited areas, fishing for roach and bream is successful. There are crayfish and various mollusks. Access roads to the lake are good.

Both of these objects are located nearby, on the right bank of the Desnogo reservoir in the village of Bogdanovo.

What to see

There are several settlements on the shores of the lake. The largest settlement is located on the northwestern coast - the city of Sebezh with a population of more than 5,000 people. In high season it doubles.

You can admire the expanses of the lake from Petrovskaya Mountain, and wonderful views open from the city embankment.

Part of Sebezh is located on a high narrow cape about 1.3 km long. There are various attractions here, such as the bell tower of the Church of the Nativity of Christ, as well as the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity, which was built in 1649 and has a rich history.

On other sides the lake is surrounded by smaller settlements: from the north - the villages of Zaturye, Ulyanovshchina, from the east - the villages of Gorbuny, Prasnya, Cherneya. In the southeast there is the village of Kapanovo, in the south - the village of Konchany, as well as the village of Selyavi, in the west - the village of Ugarinka.

During the hot season, many people come to the reservoirs to relax on the beaches of the reservoir, but there are almost none of them on the banks of Sebezhskoye. The beach area between the villages of Prasnya and Cherneya stands out most clearly. To get to it, you need to take road 58K-564, connecting these two settlements. If you drive in a southerly direction, approximately 740 m after the village of Prasni there will be a right turn. After turning, you need to drive about another kilometer to the end of the road, where the beach will be located.

The nature in the vicinity of Lake Kovzhskoe amazes tourists with its beauty and diversity. Picturesque landscapes, clean air, clear water, green forests and birdsong attract a large number of vacationers to these places. The shore of the lake is flat almost everywhere, access to water is easy, but the bottom is mostly deep (the average depth is about 6 meters, and the maximum is 16 meters). The coast itself is rocky, in some parts there is sand, but there are also wetlands. The bottom of the lake is covered with a mixture of sand and stones; at greater depths (starting from 2 meters) the bottom becomes muddy, here you can easily fall into one of the many hidden holes. However, the water here is very clear; in calm weather, the bottom can be seen at a depth of two meters. The waters of the lake are saturated with oxygen and have fairly weak mineralization.

Lake Kovzhskoe is surrounded mainly by plains, turning into small hills up to 35 meters high in the south. Reeds and reeds grow along the shore of the reservoir, as well as water lilies, horsetails, sedges, arrowheads and other marsh plants. The lake itself has a lot of algae, mostly blue-green in color, which causes the water to bloom here at certain times of the year. Relaxation on the lake can also be hampered by a large number of mosquitoes, and mayflies and flies can also be found here.
