This is an artificially created reservoir. Its surface area is 45 square meters. km., width 1.5 km, length 40 km. The volume is 144 million cubic meters of water. Located on the Matyra River on the Left tributary of the river. Voronezh in the Gryazinsky district. The so-called sea was formed during the Soviet era. Currently it is aimed at the needs of recreation and water supply for CHPP-2 and rural households. At the end of the 20th century, NLMK was privatized, and in 2004 it returned to the ownership of the Russian Federation. Today, along the banks there are the settlements of Kazinka, Yarlukovo, Kamennoe, as well as sanatoriums and recreation areas. The Matyr Reservoir is the largest reservoir in the Lipetsk region.

Matyr Reservoir

The Matyrskoe reservoir is located on the river. Matyr (left tributary of the Voronezh river), in the Gryazinsky district of the Lipetsk region, 3.5 km from the city of Lipetsk. Formed by an earthen dam with a concrete spillway and a ship lift; the length of the dam is 9.7 km, width - 10 m, maximum height - 11.5 m. The largest reservoir in the Lipetsk region, the largest reservoir in the region in terms of full and useful volume[*].

Normal retaining level (NRL) is 109 m. The total volume of the reservoir at NRL is 144 million m3, useful - 120 million m3, the area of ​​the water surface at NRL is 38.8 km2, the length of the reservoir is 40 km, the average width is 1.3 km, the maximum is 5 km, average depth – 3.1 m, maximum – 9 m. The area of ​​shallow waters is about 10 km2.

The length of the coastline is 86 km. The area of ​​flooded lands is 40 km2, the area of ​​irrigated lands is 1.8 thousand hectares. The catchment area at the waterworks site is 5050 km2. The maximum calculated wave height is 0.7 m. The average flow at the hydroelectric site for a year is 467 million m3, during a flood - 327 million m3.

The construction of the reservoir dam began in 1970 and was fully completed with the installation of a hydraulic system in 1976. The dam, 10 km long, connected the village. New Life and the Lipetsk ring road (Orel-Tambov highway). Filling of the reservoir began in April 1976.

The reservoir carries out seasonal flow regulation. Filling is carried out during the spring flood period, and uniform drainage is carried out during the summer-autumn low water period. In summer, water blooms and massive fish deaths occur in the reservoir due to lack of oxygen; Currently, the river’s traditional waters have completely disappeared from the reservoir. Matyry catfish, burbot and chub. The ichthyofauna of the reservoir is represented by bream, pike perch, roach, silver bream, tench, pike, silver and golden carp, and carp.

The reservoir is used for water supply, incl. Lipetsk CHPP-2, irrigation and recreation; in the 1980‒1990s. Commercial fishing was developed on the reservoir.

A serious problem is the destruction of the banks of the Matyr Reservoir, which causes the loss of significant areas of agricultural and forest land, as well as the development of landslides in built-up areas. A set of measures to strengthen the banks with a length of 5 km is required.

Along the banks of the reservoir are the settlements of Yarlukovo, Kamenoye, Kazinka; the left bank is partially located within the city of Lipetsk. The right forested bank is built up with recreation centers and sanatoriums.

History of origin

Flooding of the territory

In the 50s of the 20th century, the construction of NLMK began on Lipetsk land by decision of the government of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party Committee. The local iron and steel plant did not have enough river water to operate due to the increase in production capacity. In 1966, a project was approved to build a dam and resettle residents from the site of the proposed future water reservoir. 10 years later the area itself was flooded. It lasted from March to August. A ten-kilometer-long dam connected the village of Novaya Zhizn and the Lipetsk ring road (the ring from Orel to Tambov).

An anti-malaria program was carried out and the reeds were destroyed. This was done to prevent mosquitoes from settling here. The bottom was deepened using special equipment capable of excavating soil under water. Near the floodplain there were previously cattle and poultry burial grounds. They were moved to another burial.

The Matyr reservoir did not become industrial, so today it has become a favorite vacation spot for residents of the region.

Where were the population of the territory used? They were all allocated housing in the regional center, as well as the nearby town of Gryazi and some villages. Including in Yarlukovo, which became the most equipped rural settlement of that time. Along with the construction of new houses, communications and infrastructure were built, so we can say that the people who previously lived in this area were not disadvantaged. In addition, the population had the right to choose a location for living. A water pipeline and a pumping station were built, and all roads were covered with asphalt.

A large number of professionals prepared the future bottom: they cleared it according to all the necessary rules. Houses were demolished, fruit and vegetable plantings were flooded.

The plans of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union included increasing capacity to 20 million tons of rolled steel, but they were never realized. In the 2000s, the plant switched to a closed water supply system. Responsible for land reclamation was Mikhail Tikhonovich Narolin, governor of the region (1993-1998).

Already in the 21st century, or more precisely in 2008, the first repair of the dam was carried out. The following year, shallow areas that occupied almost a third of the area were cleaned up. As a result, a half-kilometer sand spit was formed in the area of ​​the village of Kazinka. The drainage system was repaired. Cleaning this canal is still one of the main tasks of the Hydraulic Complexes organization today. Beavers litter the canal with trees and branches, and they have to be removed almost daily.

In 2021, road workers announced a competition for the construction of a bridge across a tributary of the man-made lake, the Matyra River. The work, lasting five years, will make it possible to redistribute industrial traffic flows between access roads to the regional center, without entering the city itself. The bridge is planned to be 365 meters long.

Currently, strengthening of the banks along a length of 5 kilometers is required, as they are being destroyed. As a result, significant areas of agricultural and forest land are lost.

Fishing report on the Matyr Reservoir

It so happened that having lived to the age of 34 and having been keen on fishing since childhood, I had never fished at the Matyrskoye Reservoir, located in the city of Lipetsk (although the distance to it is only about 80 km). And then the day comes when my friend and I decide to go fishing to this legendary place, about which I have been reading reports on the forum for years. At 5:20 we get up, quickly get ready, and at 6:00 we are already in the car heading towards Lipetsk. The point is filled, the navigator leads us through Lidarnopetsk itself. Next we pass NLMK. A little more and we are there. There are many fishermen on the ice, all distributed evenly and not crowded together. We decide that the fish are either biting well and there is no point in drilling each other, or that no one is biting.

We quickly get everything we need from the car and here we are on the ice. As it turned out later, having moved 500 meters away from the car, they still didn’t take everything. I forgot bloodworms and bait in the car and had to go back.

The ice is hard, without snow, very comfortable to walk, about 50 centimeters thick. The temperature was above zero, a strong wind was at our back, clouds covered the entire sky, not allowing the sun to come out even once all day. Since this is our first time on the pond, we decide to walk along it a little, drill and pierce the bottom with an echo sounder. The camera was also periodically lowered under the ice.

On one of the holes on the camera I see a good perch, the perch is active and does not stand still. This is good. The depths are not great at first - 1.3 meters, then 3.7. We try to lower the jig into the hole, but in response there is silence. Let's move on.

The fishermen, judging by the absence of sharp waves of their arms, are also quiet. A little later we find the point. A sharp change in depth from 12 meters to 2 meters. We tried to catch and at a depth of 2 m the first fish was on the ice, it was a small perch about half the size of a palm. I was tempted by the jig with bloodworms. We drill a few more holes nearby. Each hole has five holes of the same size.

At the beginning of the drop, at a depth of 3.5 meters, he takes a ruff the size of his little finger. We decide that this fish is not ours and move on. In the distance we can see a large concentration of fishermen and we head there, stopping periodically to make several holes and try to find fish. But, alas, there are no fish.

Further, at the first spit, we meet a fisherman who is fishing with a chatterbox. To the question “How are you doing?” We hear the answer “Very bad.” We move further to a cluster of fishermen at the second spit.

There are a lot of people. Some even have a tent. You don’t even need to make holes - all the ice is like a sieve. I put two fishing rods on the set and sit down to rest after such a journey. Fishermen at the point also move around in search of fish. And, as we understand, mostly to no avail.

After sitting for about half an hour and seeing only one fish caught by the fisherman sitting in front of me (it was a 200 gram bream), we understand that we had come this far in vain. And we decide to go back to the point with a difference in depth.

Selfie for memory and on the road. We walk quickly, without stopping, and in half an hour we are already there. I feed two holes at 5 and 8 meters and set up fishing rods. We sit down to have a snack ourselves, continuing to watch for nods. After lunch, I decide to try fishing with a balance beam in the hope of catching a deep monster. There are no bites. I really want to see the bite and I take a fishing rod with a jig. I go to the holes where the perches were caught, but there is also silence there. The perch has gone somewhere.

After sitting a little longer and still not seeing any bites, we decide to get ready and go to the car. Having reached the car, I decide to make a couple of holes and finally near the shore and lower the jig under the ice. The depth at the point is approximately 1.5 meters. Line 0.08, jig 0.2 grams and bloodworm. In the first hole there is a bite and a perch on the ice, then another, and so within an hour there is a good amount of fun on the ice. It’s hard to call it a fish, but it’s full of pleasure. And the cats will be happy too.
