Today, the Kama Reservoir is one of the largest artificially created reservoirs in the Russian Federation. Construction of the dam began in the 60s and reached quite a large scale. And the deepest place is located near the dam and is 30 meters. The total area of the reservoir is 1910 square kilometers. In winter, the water level in the Kama Reservoir falls, and in summer, on the contrary, it rises. Seasonal fluctuations in water levels can vary from 7 to 9 meters. Due to its impressive scale, this object has a second name - the Kama Sea.

With the advent of the grandiose object, new conditions for navigation and rafting along the river were established. However, the created dam had a great impact not only on the industrial economy of the Perm region, but also on the surrounding natural environment. Meadows, pastures, arable lands and forests were flooded. Before filling the dam, several settlements and businesses even had to be moved. Unstable water levels often provoke landslides near the banks. Scientists and engineers are closely monitoring this.

Hydrology

The Kama River begins at an altitude of 335 meters above sea level in the village of Kuliga in the Udmurt Republic. There 4 keys merge and then flow together. The Kama has more than 73,000 tributaries. Most of them are small rivers up to 10 km long.
