Animal and plant life
The banks of the Vileika Reservoir are covered with forests, pine trees predominate, but some deciduous trees are also quite common. This attracts some animals and promotes their reproduction.
The Zaslavsky Reservoir is very similar in fauna to the Vileysky Reservoir; beavers and muskrats are found on their banks; wild boars, goats, raccoon dogs, and moose hide in the depths of the forests. Among the birds it is impossible not to notice woodpeckers, wood grouse, snipe and hawks.
The flora is very well developed; in addition to the mighty pines, you can find ash and elm trees in the forest. It is impossible to list all the herbs, but forget-me-not, thyme, and buttercup cannot be confused with anything else.
The Vileika Reservoir breeds different species of fish in its waters; the Chigirinskoye Reservoir boasts the same variety of species. The difference will be in quantity, but on both bodies of water you can find:
- pike;
- chub;
- asp;
- pike perch;
- perch;
- carp;
- crucian carp;
- roach;
- rudd;
- carp;
- bleak;
- tench
Other fish species are also present, but they are much less common.
Vileika Reservoir: rest
In addition to fishing, hunting, water skiing and sailing are especially popular. In June, the water surface is covered with blue-green algae, covering the surface. On the one hand, this is a beautiful phenomenon, but on the other hand, it reduces the beneficial qualities of water.
The Vileika Reservoir is surrounded by a fairly vast territory, which makes it easy to find a place you like to relax and admire nature in the summer months. Particularly clean air will help you improve your health and gain positive emotions. But in winter you can admire the mesmerizing northern lights.
Local landscapes attract with their picturesqueness not only local residents and guests of neighboring regions, but also foreign tourists staying in the comfortable conditions of recreation centers.
Visitors note the presence of hotels and restaurants with good service, boat rentals, and gazebos. Sports games in nature will also appeal to not only adults, but also children. Statistics show that every day the reservoir hospitably welcomes thousands of people on its banks.
Features of fishing on the Vileika Reservoir
Fishing reports on the Vileika Reservoir make it clear that fishing is done here all year round. Now both fishermen and their families can relax on the banks of the reservoir. You can stay comfortably in small houses or hotel houses; tent lovers will not be offended either.
Fish biting depends on many factors, primarily weather conditions influence activity. In most cases, fishing in Belarus is always successful, regardless of the body of water in which place you choose. Gomel, Braslav, Mogilev, Zaslavskoye Reservoir or another body of water will delight you with good specimens on the hooks of almost any tackle.
Fishing in winter on the Vileika Reservoir
In winter, you can meet a lot of fishermen on the reservoir; each fishes with his own gear and does not reveal the secret to anyone. Predatory fish species often become trophies, but you can also catch a decent amount of roach.
Most often, jigs with bloodworms are used, but a nozzle will also work well. For predators, baits, spinners, balancers, and rattlins are used. It is better to fish in cloudy weather; sunny days will bring a minimal catch.
Spring fishing
The weather in Vileika for the month of March often does not obey the predictions of weather forecasters; we can say for sure that at the very beginning of spring it will not be possible to fish in open water. But on the last ice you can get a good trophy of a predator; pike perch and pike rush to everything before spawning.
In mid-April they begin to catch asp; it will respond well to artificial baits in the form of larvae and flies. Pike and pike perch are still sluggish after spawning; crucian carp and carp have to be pulled out from the bottom using groundbait and animal bait. After just a week of actively warming sunshine, fishing on the Vileika Reservoir takes on completely different proportions, fish are caught more actively, and the shores are simply dotted with fishermen.
Fishing in the summer
The Chigirinsky reservoir is not much different from the Vileika reservoir, which is why in the summer, fish are caught on these reservoirs with the same gear. Most often they use a feeder, float tackle, and before the evening dawn you can get a spinning rod.
The use of bait to catch peaceful fish is mandatory; without it, success in this matter cannot be achieved. Both animal and plant varieties are used as bait. Worms, maggots, corn, and peas will attract the attention of crucian carp, bream, carp, silver bream, and roach.
The predator is lured with wobblers and silicone; spinners and spinners also work well.
Fishing in autumn
The forecast for the fish bite in the reservoir in the autumn varies from year to year, but it is worth noting that since October pike and pike perch have been caught here in good sizes. During this period, the weather in Vileika becomes unstable for 14 days; rains and winds can throw the fishermen’s cards into disarray. Only the most persistent and stubborn Region 5 will give an excellent catch both with spinning forms and with feeder and bait.

Vileika Reservoir: fishing
In winter, the reservoir attracts avid fishermen who organize competitions among themselves. Many have already known each other for several years and do not miss the opportunity to return again. For example, in 2002, a spinning competition was held in these parts to identify the best fishermen.
The place is quite unique and allows you to enjoy a large catch and rare species of fish. There are especially many good reviews about the bite in the village of Sosenka, where the water depths are filled with a variety of wildlife.
The Vileika Reservoir is an ideal place in Belarus for fishing. Here they successfully fish even from the shore, without using boats. The main thing is to choose the right bait: seeds, crackers, and in some cases bread.

Vileika Reservoir
Most people prefer to relax on the shores of water bodies. Therefore, our first practical route is on the coast of the Vileika Reservoir. This is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Minsk residents and residents of other nearby settlements. The length of the reservoir is 27 km, width up to 3 km. The average depth is 4 meters, but in some places it reaches 13 meters.
Here you can not only fish, but also have a real beach holiday. Just keep in mind that you will have to take your own assortment of all-inclusive food and drinks.
The coastline is long. In some places, access to water is difficult. But, there are many convenient beaches. Some of them are located on the territory of holiday homes, sanatoriums and campsites, some are available for free visits.
The main problem for beginners is that it is difficult to decide where exactly to go. What is where. Moreover, the road to some beaches is either not marked or invisible.
From the village of Yarmolichi to the entrance to the canal
It is possible that the depths indicated on the map at this location will be different, they depend on the adjustment of the discharge. If this is shallow for you, move towards the island, take a position directly opposite the entrance to the channel. If it is February, then in other years the ice is already wet and heavy, and the drill encounters great resistance. You must not lose cutting inertia so that the Christmas tree does not get stuck. Some processes associated with the canal force the fish to stay one or two meters from the bottom. But after the bloodworm that attracted them, the breams can rush to the bottom. Author: Pike.Pinsk©

Fishing with an overnight stay
Fishing on the Vileika Reservoir is much more interesting and promising if you go overnight for two days. It often happens that the bite is much better on the second day. And here it’s not about the weather, but about the fruitful reconnaissance of the first day, telling you how and where to fish. The first day I quickly check known points throughout the area. Usually on some of them there are one or two unrealized strikes, but I don’t force the fish here, but, taking note of the place, move to another. If I don’t find anything interesting further, then towards the evening I can check the morning places where there were strikes - it’s almost always possible to snatch a pike perch or two. Often it is here on the second day that for some reason the basis of the catch is taken.
It is important that two-day fishing also includes a relaxing overnight stay on the shore in the company of familiar fishermen. We don’t cast donkeys, and we rarely play around with a float rod, but just sit by the fire, have a heart-to-heart conversation accompanied by delicious fish soup and seagulls, admiring the wonderful beauty of the surrounding Nature, realizing at such moments that this is worth living for.
