Fishing rod for fishing from a boat

A boat, although not a mandatory attribute of fishing, is one of the most important means of transportation on the water. A boat provides a huge advantage and fishing opportunities are greatly enhanced for people who have boats in their arsenal.

True, to fish in some bodies of water you need to have a boat with certain parameters. But today on the fishing market there are many different models with different characteristics, which are made from a variety of materials. But not all beginning fishermen know how to fish from a boat.

Choosing the time and place of fishing

To choose the right time and place for fishing, you need to clearly navigate and select the object of fishing. The choice of place will depend on the type of fish you plan to catch, and the choice of time of year and day for optimal fishing will depend on its habits. I think it wouldn’t hurt to give a few examples:

  1. If you are planning to catch perch or pike in the lake
    . Often, lakes are very overgrown with aquatic vegetation and water lilies along the shoreline. Everyone remembers that pike hunt from ambush, so it would be logical to make an assumption about the predator’s camping sites. The toothy one will wait for its prey in thickets of water lilies, or at the border of clean water and aquatic vegetation. Throughout the day, pike are caught only in the fall, and at other times of the year it is worth going fishing in the early morning or evening.
  2. If you plan to catch pike, catfish, pike perch or bream on a river with a medium current
    . It is worth paying attention to various bottom anomalies; any riffles, holes, pools and edges can become an excellent place for this fish to stay. In order to deliver the bait to a promising place, you need to anchor the boat upstream and cast it towards the marked place. If the pit area is large, then the fish most likely stands on its edges.

Catching bream with a ring from a boat: choosing a place for fishing and making your own gear

August is the most popular month for bream fishing. It is in this month that you can most often observe this fish in the cages of those who like to sit at their leisure with a fishing rod by the pond. Bream fishing is one of the most exciting types of fishing. It is especially appreciated by fishermen when fishing with rings.

Choosing a fishing spot

Upon arrival at the reservoir, carefully examine the area . Bream is a fish that searches for food on the bottom by exploring the mud. The depth should be between 4 and 10 meters. The fishing spot is chosen so that there is a current. Fishing with a ring for fish such as bream is associated only with the presence of a current. If there is no current, then it is useless to fish with a ring.

Ring fishing is usually done from a boat. But there is an opportunity to learn how to fish from a bridge or pier.

Having approached the desired place on the boat, turn its side towards the current and secure the position of the boat by dropping two anchors.

If you go fishing in a place where there is a fairway and there are heavy ships, you need to anchor very carefully so that the ship does not run over your anchor rope, otherwise the fishing will end unpleasantly.

You can use any boat for fishing, both hard and inflatable. On a solid boat you can easily attach gear, and an inflatable boat produces much less noise.

The best time to catch bream is evening. However, experienced fishermen claim that night fishing is no worse and, using a flashlight, they fish at night, and they believe that the bite can be felt with your hand. There are also supporters of daytime fishing, believing that bream, as a fish that feeds on the bottom, is less susceptible to the effects of daytime heat, so it will bite at this time of day.

Tackle and equipment for ring fishing

Let's consider the gear used for fishing. It is a feeder that sinks to the bottom, with a reel on which the fishing line and, of course, the ring itself are wound.

A feeder is a mesh bag, usually metal, into which bait and a weight are placed to keep the feeder strictly at the bottom.

Types of complementary foods and bait for bream fishing

The bait consists of bread and sunflower cake. You can also use steamed pearl barley, peas or corn.

The bait for catching bream must contain components that create turbidity and are quickly carried by the current, luring fish. It can be already used in a recipe with bread, the same cake or corn flour, breadcrumbs, semolina and barley, and so on.

Many fishermen successfully use various aromatic additives to lure bream:

  • vanillin;
  • anise drops;
  • unrefined sunflower oil.

The main task of the feeder is to lure more bream to the fishing spot.

In addition, there are now many different manufacturers of fishing equipment that have developed a huge number of modern and effective baits, gear and other products. So, if you don’t want to bother with preparing for fishing yourself, you can watch videos from various companies and choose for yourself everything you need, ready-made.

It is best to use red dung worms, bloodworms, and maggots as bait, since bream generally reacts more to live prey.

Some experienced fishermen use vegetable baits to catch bream, for example, corn, but you need to take into account that the bait in any case should be more tempting than groundbait, because our task is to catch fish, not feed them.

Construction and preparation of gear for ring fishing

Required components:

  • ring;
  • the leash is long;
  • leashes are short;
  • coil;
  • gatehouse;
  • bite stopper.

As for the ring itself, you should make it yourself from lead. This metal is very soft and pliable, so there will be no problems with manufacturing.

The ring should not be whole, but contain a connector on one side that can be opened and closed again at the right time. Also, a hole should be made in the ring itself , where the leash line will be threaded.

Take the advice and watch the video of making the ring; there are a lot of them, showing various designs.

The tackle consists of a 3 meter long leash wound on a reel, short 5 cm long leashes, and also a ring - this is the main thing in the tackle. The fishing rod should be short and have a reel. The coil can be inertial or non-inertial.

It is better to equip the tackle with a long guard (at least 20 cm) so that it plays on the wave, but does not ring. A bite stopper will be a good help in fishing.

When the bream bites, the leash lowers to the clamp, a rigid fixation occurs and the fish even hooks itself.

Installing a feeder

Fishing begins by lowering the feeder to the bottom. Take and unwind the required amount of fishing line so that the feeder immediately sinks to the bottom. You need to throw it downstream about two meters away from the boat.

Then fix it with a stretch - this is the fishing line along which the ring will be lowered to the feeder. A lead ring with leashes and bait will go along the fishing line to the feeder.

To catch bream on a ring, the tackle must be prepared very carefully, avoiding negligence.

Next, proceed directly to catching bream. Unwind the leashes. Throwing them by hand requires some skill. First, bait a red worm; it is advisable to take a hook number 8-10 according to domestic numbering. The tails of the worms should be left in a free position so that the worm wriggles on the bottom, since bream loves moving prey.

Rules for installing the ring

You put a ring on the main line, which should go down to our feeder. The metal of the ring is soft, it can be easily moved apart and a fishing line can be threaded through it. To prevent it from slipping off, you need to tightly close the ring back. In the ring, as was said earlier, another hole was made through which a sliding leash goes. Thanks to this, when biting, the bream does not feel any resistance.

So, we lower the ring with the leash to the feeder. Please note that it takes some skill to cast a long leash without it getting tangled. Using a reel, we lower the ring to the bait and there it is near the feeder at the bottom.

You can fish with a ring with two or three fishing rods. But fishing with more than two fishing rods is quite difficult. If you want to catch bream on two fishing rods at the same time, then prepare the second tackle in the same way.

Tackle

Often, fishermen use side rods for fishing from a boat, but you can also use regular fishing rods, the main thing is that their size allows them to fit comfortably in the boat. Fishing with long rods is not very convenient.

From my own experience, I will say that it is best to use spinning or feeder rods with a length of 1.65 to 2.10 m.

The rod test must be selected based on the weight of the baits used. For spinning, focus on a small range of artificial baits, and for fishing with a feeder or donk, you need to take a wider range, based on the weight of the equipped feeders.

There are not so many equipment that you may need while fishing. It all depends on the type of fishing, but most often fishermen use:

  • If fishing is planned on lakes, and the main object of fishing is pike, then it is best to choose a spinning rod whose weight does not exceed 20 grams and the length is about 2 meters. It is better to take a reel of 2000 according to the Shimano classification, and use braid with a diameter of up to 0.15 mm as the main line. It is necessary to use a leash to protect the bait from the sharp teeth of the pike.
  • To fish from a boat on the river, you need to use a powerful spinning rod or fishing rod. The rod test depends on the depth at the fishing spot, as well as the speed of the current. Most often, fishermen use spinning rods with dough up to 40 grams. The size of the coil must be selected around 3000 and equipped with braiding up to 0.2 mm in diameter. Such equipment will allow you to fish in deep water bodies without any difficulties, using different equipment.
  • For fishing for peaceful fish, it will be enough to use a feeder rod with a length of 2.4 meters and a weight of about 100 grams. The optimal reel would be 3000, on which it is best to wind braid with a diameter of up to 0.2 mm.

A variety of equipment is used for the feeder, the choice of which depends on the object being fished and the fishing conditions. Thin fluorocarbon fishing line is often used as material for leashes. However, most often silver bream and bream are caught using feeder gear, but sometimes other fish also become targets.

This design will be best handled by fishermen who have extensive experience in handling both rowing and motor models, but the boat is also perfect for beginners. The connector for installing the motor is universal, so you can first purchase a small power motor and then take a more powerful one, but the power should be no more than 15 hp.

The keel is protected from abrasion by a PVC bar, the width of which is 60 mm. The hull of the boat is flexible and bends slightly during movement, so it will resist waves well without being worn out by water friction. It is this solution that allows for long-term and fairly reliable operation. The lower part of the structure is additionally reinforced with durable PVC tape, which protects the boat from abrasion during use and protects it from damage during sailing or mooring to the shore or pier.

Advantages:

  • Long warranty;
  • Low weight for inflatable boats of this type;
  • Safety loop for installing the motor;
  • Reinforced cylinders;
  • The canvases are made of PVC with a density of 900 g/sq.m. m.

Fishing technique

Once you have decided on the appropriate gear and identified a promising place where the fish may be standing, all that remains is to provoke it to bite. As a rule, provoking fish to bite is not a very difficult task, the techniques of which are known to all fishermen.

When fishing from a boat, you need to be guided by a few simple techniques that are known to all fishermen:

  1. Catching predatory fish in a lake involves luring the predator out of ambush and provoking it to bite. Typically, thickets of aquatic vegetation, water lilies and hydrostatic structures act as ambushes. Typically, a predator is lured out by moving bait along a possible parking area, and different wiring techniques are chosen.
  2. Most often, fishing takes place in deep sections of the river; jig fishing is better suited for such purposes. This method of placing bait allows you to deliver bait without much effort and lure predators out of deep holes and pools.
  3. If you plan to fish for peaceful fish using a feeder, then the main thing here is to feed the fish correctly. You need to feed the fish constantly so that it does not leave the fishing spot; this is achieved by repeatedly throwing the feeder into one place. Make the bait so that the current washes it out of the feeder within 10-15 minutes.

Fishing for bream with a ring: tackle, finding a place for fishing, bait and bait

Catching bream with a ring or puck is common among fishermen in the lower Volga. This tackle is very catchy, it showed itself especially well when catching white fish in the current. For fishing you will need a boat with 2 anchors, a bait net and the tackle itself.

Before fishing, the boat is anchored at two points and a feeder with bait is lowered on a 1 mm thick fishing line.

The fishing rod for ring fishing is quite simple and affordable. The rod is required to be short, its length should not exceed 0.7 m.

It is equipped with any reel with a supply of fishing line of 15-20 m with a thickness of 0.45-0.5 mm. For leashes, a fishing line of 0.25-0.3 mm is suitable.

The distance between hooks is about 0.5 m.

The ring is made of lead, it is round in cross-section and bent in the shape of a ring. Its ends are cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

When the ring is folded, its ends fit tightly to each other and close the equipment. On the opposite side of the lock in the ring there is a hole with a diameter of 2-3 mm.

A fishing line is passed through this hole, at the end of which there is a winding ring. Another piece of fishing line with leashes is tied to it.

The ring is put on a thick fishing line that holds the feeder at the bottom. The equipment smoothly lowers to depth. When she reaches the feeder, the line will stop reeling. And the fishing line with leashes can be lowered further, moving the hooks away from the feeder.

hooks with a long shank are used to make it easier to remove them from the fish. The hook size is selected according to the bait and the expected size of the fish.

as a bite alarm. Some anglers prefer to hold the line on their finger to feel the fish touch the bait.

To feed bream, a large mesh with a 5x5 mm mesh is required. You can adapt ordinary vegetable nets by making a rope tie to which the fishing line is tied.

A weight weighing 1 kg is sent to the bottom of the feeder, and then the food is tightly packed into a net and lowered to a depth on a thick fishing line. The line is stretched and tied to the boat.

Both purchased formulations and homemade porridges can be used as bait.

It is important that the feed contains large components:

  • steamed peas
  • corn
  • cut worms
  • cereals

Millet porridge with the addition of cake is suitable for the base. The mixture is thoroughly mixed. Other options for cereals, bread, potatoes, etc. are also suitable.

When catching bream with a ring, various animal and plant baits are used.

Among the baits, worms and maggots should be noted. You can bait one worm, or it is better to string several worms, piercing them in several places. Maggots are baited in several pieces to make a tempting dish for bream.

Suitable plant baits include:

  • steamed peas
  • pearl barley and wheat
  • canned corn

Peas and corn are placed on the hook one grain at a time, and pearl barley and wheat can be strung 2-3 pieces each.

To catch bream with a ring, it is important to choose the right anchor point. It is best to choose a place using an echo sounder. When a school of fish is discovered at a depth of 7-9 m, the boat should be anchored 20-30 m above the fish site.

Excellent places for fishing for bream will be channel edges, deep drop-offs, places near piles of snags, and pools with reverse currents. Since fishing is usually carried out in one place, it is better to spend extra minutes to thoroughly inspect a promising place.

If you don’t have an echo sounder, you can tap the bottom with a heavy sinker using stepped wiring.

If there are hooks or underwater obstacles, you may have to change the location.

How to fish from a boat

We looked at many different features, but we still didn’t talk about how to fish from a boat. In order to answer the question, you need to take into account a few simple tips and then your fishing will definitely be successful:

  • A rope, life jacket and ring must be in the boat. Safety on a boat is very important.
  • The presence of water-repellent and warm clothes in your equipment is welcome.
  • You shouldn’t go fishing alone; it’s better to take a friend or acquaintance with you on the boat.
  • Do not anchor in areas where ships are passing if you are fishing on navigable waters. And in general, you should beware of noisy places.
  • Never place the boat parallel to the current; it must be perpendicular. This position is most convenient both for the fisherman and for the arrangement of gear.
  • If luck does not smile on you for a long time and you do not see a bite, then you can safely change the place of fishing. You just need to do this very carefully and quietly so as not to scare away the fish.
  • The choice of gear depends on the depth at the fishing site, fishing time, type of fish and current speed.

How to catch bream on a ring

Among the many fishing methods, bream fishing with a ring stands out for its originality. The fishing itself, the construction of the gear and the peculiarities of the bait are unusual here. Ring fishing is so productive that until 1992 it was banned in the Soviet Union. And even today it is prohibited in some periods on certain sections of rivers.

However, the army of admirers of this method of fishing is increasing every year, so we give a description of how to make this tackle with your own hands and how, in fact, to catch some species of fish of the carp family with its help. Fishing for bream with a ring is mainly carried out from a boat in the current, but under certain conditions it is also possible to fish from the shore.

Time, place and fishing objects

They are caught by “ringing” during the period of active feeding of the fish. This is mainly the post-spawning period, summer and early autumn. As the water in the river cools in the fall, the fish reduce their activity, and ring fishing loses its relevance.

The fishing location is near the river bed, where bream, silver bream, carp and other accompanying fish usually feed. On the huts of a river with a rip current, it is possible to catch bream with a ring and from the shore.

This gear is mainly intended for catching bream and its accompanying fish: white bream, silver bream, and sop. But if it is known that carp are feeding on a certain section of the river, then they catch it too. This fishing differs only in the baits used.

To baits made from worms and maggots, add a large amount of vegetable baits: corn or pearl barley. Although bream also bite on such a bait, it attracts carp more. Naturally, the leashes in this case are thicker.

Principle of operation

Before we talk about the elements of equipment for catching fish with a ring, we will describe the basic diagram of its operation.

  1. We sail a boat to the chosen place of the river and anchor with a guy rope or one anchor so that the boat stands across the current.
  2. We lower the feeder from the side that is located downstream.
  3. We put a weight on the cord - a ring.
  4. We thread a working fishing line through the small weight ring, put on stop beads and tie a winding ring or swivel to attach the garland.
  5. We attach the garland with leashes and bait the hooks.
  6. We lower the garland into the water and release the fishing line from the reel. It easily falls down under the weight of the sinker.
  7. We jerk the feeder to release the food and create a muddy bait trail on the river bottom. Our leashes with bait are located in this train of bait.
  8. The tackle is ready for battle!

We see that the use of the ring-garland-feeder system in this gear allows you to always keep the hooks in the baited trail.

Hooking occurs at the nod signal. You can hook with a fishing rod or directly by tugging on the line. After hooking, the stopper of the garland rests against the ring, and the tackle rises up along with it and the trophy.

Now let’s look at the elements of installing gear for catching bream with a ring.

Equipment for catching bream with a ring consists of several required elements. All elements of the tackle can be bought in a store or made with your own hands. Fishing rod – “ring” consists of the following elements:

  • Fishing rod. Any store-bought or homemade onboard fishing rod can be used as it. The length of the fishing rod should not exceed one meter; a larger size will only be a hindrance in the boat.
  • Nod. To register bites, the fishing rod is equipped with a nod, the rigidity of which is adjusted to the flow of the river. The nod should not “play” under the influence of the current, but respond to a bite.
  • Coil. An arbitrary type is chosen, since it is not actively involved in the fishing process, but is used only for storing working fishing line. However, there are fishermen who catch fish not with their hands, but with the help of an inertia-free fish.
  • Working line. By this name we mean the fishing line connecting the fishing rod to the hooks. Its usual thickness is 0.30-0.35 mm.
  • Garland. The fishing line on which the leashes are mounted. The diameter of the main line on the garland is 0.22-0.25 mm. Its length depends on the number of leashes.
  • Leashes. From two to six, depending on the greed of the fisherman and the length of the handle of his landing net. The length of the leashes is 20-30 centimeters, thickness from 0.14 to 0.18 mm. Hooks are selected depending on the bait or attachment used.
  • The sinker is a ring. It is because of this that the tackle got its name.
  • Feeder. Without plenty of bait, you won’t be able to catch bream with a ring.
  • Cord. Here we will understand the fishing line that holds the feeder and along which the ring slides. Typically, a fishing line with a thickness of one millimeter is chosen for the cord.

In addition to the gear itself, in order to catch carp or bream with a ring, we will need a boat with anchors, a cage and a landing net.

Weight ring and its modifications

The ring in its classical sense is a donut-shaped lead weight. In the body of the donut there is a hole for passing the working line and a slot closed with a cambric for putting the donut on the feeder cord.

To distance the garland with leashes from the feeder in order to avoid possible hooking, a winding ring with a leash 10-20 centimeters long is inserted into the hole of the donut, to the end of which another winding ring is attached to pass the working line.

Another cargo option is the so-called eggs. This weight is a wire bracket with a ring in the middle and two lead balls - eggs - shifted towards each other at its ends.

A working line is threaded through the ring, and a feeding cord is passed between the spread eggs. When biting and hooking, the eggs slide off the cord, which allows you to land the caught fish without fear of the garland intersecting with the cord.

You can make a fixed weight with your own hands from a brass weapon casing, after filling it with lead. Before pouring, a wire lubricated with lithol is inserted along its axis; pulling it out after the lead has cooled from the sleeve, we get a longitudinal hole through which the feeding cord will be passed. The working line is passed through the ring of a wire clamp fixed in the middle of the sleeve cylinder.

Feeder

A necessary element of equipment is a special feeder. The feeder is made of a mesh with large, up to one centimeter, cells. You can also buy it at a fishing store. The volume of the feeder is from five liters and above. A heavy weight is attached to the bottom of the feeder. It can be located both inside the feeder and outside. Its weight should hold the stuffed net with food in a strong current.

A plastic circle is attached to the top of the feeder, onto which a load - a ring - will fall, and a cord is tied.

Filling the feeder with bait components is carried out as follows:

  1. Bread crumbs are laid out on the bottom of the mesh and on its sides. Rusks must be used in large pieces.
  2. Bait is stuffed between the crackers. It can be “salapinka”, barley porridge, or millet porridge.
  3. The bait porridge is covered with breadcrumbs on top and tightened.

One filled feeder is usually enough for four to five hours of fishing. The time it takes to completely empty it depends on the speed of the current at the fishing spot and the density of the bait packing.

The composition of the bait mixture can include:

  • peas;
  • barley;
  • corn;
  • cake;
  • ground sunflower seeds;
  • powdered milk;
  • semolina, barley, wheat and corn cereals;
  • breadcrumbs;
  • rolled oats flakes
  • bran.

The mixtures should be quite viscous; it is better to cook a variety of porridges from them. The bait can additionally be flavored with attractants that are attractive to fish.

Features of fishing from the shore

“Koltsovka” can also be used when fishing from a steep bank. With this fishing method, the feeder is lowered a few meters from the cliff. The cord from the feeder is tied to a peg driven on the shore. The rod can be used on board, bottom, and even feeder.

A weight is lowered along a cord to the feeder and pulls leashes with bait along with it. During the period of spawning ban, such installation with one hook is quite legal.

Winter "ring"

Some anglers practice ring fishing in winter. The only difference is in the size of the feeder: to fit into the hole, and the use of an ordinary winter fishing rod for the current.

The ring itself is also made in a miniature version.

This system replaces the fishing method using two holes: the lower one - working and the upper one - bait, but also allows you to keep the hook in the bait train.
