Pearl barley for fishing. How to cook and store

Modern stores are filled with a wide variety of bait. It would seem that buy and catch, why cook something yourself. But still, ordinary porridge, prepared with your own hands, still remains very popular among fishermen. Store-bought baits consist of finely ground components; they give off a smell and a trail in the water and attract fish well. But such bait cannot hold the school for a long time, since there is nothing for the fish to eat other than “dust” at the feeding point. Therefore, porridge is needed in order to keep a school of fish near the feeder. In addition, bait is expensive these days and you can spend a lot of money on one fishing trip. And homemade bait will cost several times less.

Millet porridge for bream

Large bream is well caught using millet porridge. It is very easy to prepare. For 1 part of cereal you need 1.5 parts of water.

Pour 4 parts millet and 1 part barley into boiling water and cook until all the water has evaporated. It is necessary to stir periodically so that the cereal does not burn.

Next, you need to remove the pan from the heat and add 1 part of the rolled oats and mix everything well.

Close the pan with porridge, wrap it in a towel and leave it like that for 30 minutes. During this time, she will have time to brew. It molds well into lumps and does not wash away for a long time in the current. Usually such porridge is crushed into a spring feeder and bream is caught with lard.

Ask a Question

If you need a more crumbly one, then you can add more flour or seeds. And if you need something more sticky, for example, for spring feeders, then add less corn and seeds.

What kind of fish can you catch with hominy?

So, it can be used to catch fish such as crucian carp, carp, bream, roach, silver bream and other similar fish. They are found quite often in ordinary fresh waters.

During cooking, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the fish smells very well, and if the hominy is prepared in violation of the recipe, then all the fish can be scared away.

For each fish, a certain fishing procedure is often followed, since they differ in size and, accordingly, this can affect the size of the bait. Some sense hominy very quickly, while others need additional means that can affect the quick reaction of the fish.

These criteria should be considered during the fishing process and fish selection. Experienced fishermen are well versed with the proportions of hominy. You can also find out more in specialized literature or on fishing websites.

Mastyrka (Pea porridge for fishing)

Carp and crucian carp are excellently caught using mastyrka. This is not even porridge, but something like dough. There are many ways to cook pea porridge for carp fish, but we will focus on the most popular recipe.

It is better to take half peas, as they boil faster in water. And if whole peas are used, then the porridge needs to be cooked 10 minutes longer. For 2 parts peas you need 5 parts water.

You need to pour 2 parts of peas into a pan, add water and cook. The peas need to be stirred frequently. If it burns, you will be left without a catch, as the smell of burnt peas scares away fish.

When the porridge boils, you need to reduce the heat to low and cover with a lid, but not completely, but leave a small hole. Cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

When the water boils, you need to remove the pan from the heat. Next, you need to crush the peas to a dough-like state. To do this you will need a mixer or an ordinary masher.

Pour 1.5 parts of semolina into the resulting dough and mix everything until smooth. Add a packet of vanilla and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Mix well again. The porridge is ready.

Salapin porridge recipe

For those unfamiliar with the recipe, let me briefly remind you of the essence. Complementary feeding is budget-friendly, all you need is: millet, pearl barley, barley and corn grits, a little vanilla and sunflower oil. First, cook half a mug of pearl barley over low heat under a lid, the ratio of barley to water is 1:3. When cooked, the water has become cloudy and the grains have boiled. Next, a mug of millet is poured into the cooked pearl barley, mixed, a bag of vanillin is added, slightly flavored with sunflower oil, stirred some more and finished cooking under the lid over low heat. The fire is turned off, the porridge comes under the lid, absorbing the rest of the water. Next, dry barley and corn grits are added, taking away the remaining moisture in the porridge. Mix everything thoroughly again. A good porridge for fishing should be crumbly, but when squeezed, stick together into a lump - what you need for a feeder. If it turns out too sticky, then add dry cereal. If it doesn’t mold well, then a binder is added, the same rolled oats flakes.

In general, the usual porridge recipe is one of dozens known a long time ago. But there was a lot of noise, because this was said by a well-promoted expert, and it became a “Salapinskaya” mess throughout the entire former Union. As a result, somehow “porridge” quickly ceased to be a dirty word even in sports circles, especially when fishing for bream, large crucian carp, and other respectable whitefish, where such complementary feeding is appropriate. Although personally, I don’t really understand why even some experienced milk dongers stick to this particular porridge, because this is far from the best option for complementary feeding as such, and porridge in particular. Moreover, both in terms of mechanics and attractive properties. Surely an experienced expert himself understood this, so he made reservations, saying that this is only a “base” for extensive experiments.

In addition, do not forget that in a feeder it is always useful to first attract fish with “dust” bait, and to keep it in place with porridge, which does not imply the taste qualities of some cereals, no, it is complementary food, the complex taste of which is formed by simultaneous cooking of different components, and this is a huge advantage. Barley steamed in a thermos is not porridge, but simply barley. Porridge is pearl barley cooked with other cereals, the same millet. If you cook pearl barley separately, millet separately, mix and put it in the feeder, then such bait will be worse than porridge. In fact, it is worth noting that cooking porridge is full of small, but very important secrets that directly affect the catch. For example, it is better to cook not in water, but in broths; shrimp broth is very good - first they are boiled well in water, then the grains are added.

Or, say, peas - I’m ready to stand for them, and almost always, to one degree or another, I introduce them into my porridges when catching any fish, from silver bream and roach to bream and chub. After all, depending on the cooking method, peas work differently and have different functions. For bream, peas must be whole; this is an important feed component of complementary food for fish. For others, boiled in puree, which gives a cloudy aroma in the water, and this is more of an attractive factor, although it is also very important. And, of course, I combine porridge with crumbly bait. Let’s say I start feeding with “dust”, and after the fish arrive I switch to porridge. It really quickly saturates the fish, then it stops biting, and that’s... good! After all, only small things are quickly filled with gruel, and then it doesn’t hurt to wait for the good fish to arrive, which is impossible to overfeed, there would be enough food! By the way, a sign of overfeeding of small fish is its periodic reddening on the side; when the fin begins to simply spin around the bait, it can knock out the bait, no longer wanting to swallow it, and when purposefully catching small whitefish, this is a signal to slow down the pace of feeding until it stops completely. But this is not about bream!
