Reservoirs and fish of the Novosibirsk region

The Ob and Om rivers spread their waters across the Novosibirsk region. The Novosibirsk reservoir is also located here; local residents nicknamed it the Sea of Ob. You can also have a good time with a fishing rod on the lakes. More than five dozen species of fish live in the region’s reservoirs. The most popular here:

  • crucian carp;
  • Perch;
  • Bream.

Even lampreys and sometimes sturgeon pass by.

Important!!! 9 species of fish that are found in the Novosibirsk region are in the Red Book of Russia

The Ob River is famous for its rich underwater world; there are many valuable species of fish in it:

  1. Sterlet;
  2. Sturgeon;
  3. Siberian grayling;
  4. Taimen;
  5. Lenok.

The second place in the fish world is occupied by the Novosibirsk Reservoir. There are almost two dozen species of fish in the Ob Sea, the most common of which are:

  • Pike;
  • Silver crucian carp;
  • Carp;
  • Golden crucian carp;
  • River perch;
  • Burbot;
  • Roach;
  • Rudd.

Regardless of which body of water you visit, you can always catch good fish:

  1. Bream;
  2. Pike perch;
  3. Carp;
  4. crucian carp;
  5. Bream.

The presence of this fish is in every lake and, naturally, in rivers.

Fishing spots in the Novosibirsk region

  • Dam area of the Ob River. It is recommended to fish at this place in the summer;
  • From the mouth of the Inya River;
  • Mouth of the Inya River;
  • Bugrinsky beach area;
  • River Ob. New bridge. If you fish from a boat, you can catch bream or ide;
  • River Ob. District of treatment facilities of thermal power plant;
  • Ob Reservoir;
  • Berdsky Bay;
  • Lake Chany, area of the village of Shaitik and further to the south;
  • Lake Suzdal, village Dovolnoe;
  • Kolyvan Lakes;
  • Lake Polovinnoye;
  • Lake Good;
  • Lake Yarkul. Here you can only fish with a rod;
  • Chulym River;
  • Kargat River;
  • Lake Sarltan.

Fishing in the Novosibirsk region is especially pleasant, since the waters are home to a huge number of different species of fish. For those who prefer fishing in increased comfort, there are many paid reservoirs.

River Ob

The Ob is one of the largest rivers in Russia. Of the 50 different species of fish counted, 35 are considered commercial. In addition to the valuable species of fish listed above, you can catch there:

  1. Minnow;
  2. Pike;
  3. crucian carp;
  4. Perch;
  5. Roach;
  6. Burbot.

It is very valuable here that it bites on any part of the shore. But still, if you fish from a boat, the result will be much better. The fact that so many fish live here is directly due to the territory over which the Ob River spreads its waters. Partially it flows through forests, somewhere through the steppe, and in other areas bays are formed. Ultimately, all living conditions are formed that are suitable for different types of fish and, naturally, for their catching. In most cases, fishermen prefer spinning and float gear. Takes perfectly on a fishing rod with a float:

  • crucian carp;
  • Carp;
  • Perch;
  • Bream.

You will be able to catch all this if you get to the village of Verkh-Suzun. In the same place there is trophy-sized pike, which can be caught using a spinning rod.

Lake Chany

Chany is the largest lake in Western Siberia. It spreads its waters over the territory of the Novosibirsk region. On average, the lake has a depth of 2 meters, but there are also deep spots of about 7 meters. The lake itself is shallow and up to 2 meters deep and occupies a large area. The shore there is very low, around it, almost everywhere, it is overgrown with reeds and other bushes. The bottom is muddy or sandy in places. Most of it is located in the forest-steppe natural zone, only a small part of the lake is in the steppe. The Chans begin to become covered with ice at the end of October - beginning of November. In May, the sun's rays begin to warm up and the water begins to break through. There are about 16 species of fish here. The most common ones in the lake:

  1. Ide;
  2. Zander;
  3. Goldfish;
  4. Perch;
  5. Carp.

Less common in this reservoir are:

  1. Roach;
  2. Bream;
  3. Pike.

Very rarely caught here:

  1. Tench;
  2. Golden carp;
  3. Dace;
  4. Gudgeon;
  5. Lake minnow.

The fish spend the entire winter mostly in the Yarkovsky Reach and Lake Yarkul. The most frequent guest there is perch. In summer, the fish prefer the Chinyaikha reach. During this period you can often find:

  • Sudka;
  • Roach;
  • Ide;
  • Carp.

Sometimes perch and roach slip by.

Lake Sartran

The lake is one of the three largest in the region. Its area covers 238 square kilometers. The waters here are slightly salty, located in the Zdvinsky and Barabinsky districts. The bottom here is muddy almost everywhere, and the depths reach 1.5 - 2 meters. Sartran receives several small rivers. The banks there are low and overgrown with reeds and other vegetation. In October the lake is covered with ice. The thickness of the ice sometimes reaches more than a meter. In May the ice gradually disappears.

Local residents periodically stock the lake with fish, so there is no need to complain about the presence of fish. Carp and peled are bred there in artificial form. Also, the reservoir is rich in ide, pike and dace.

You can catch fish throughout the lake. There are no specific places - they change periodically depending on the weather and time of year. But they recommend going for ide to the mouths of streams near the village of Taskaevo. You can go to the village of Krasny Yar, near it you can catch large crucian carp.

Perch and roach can be caught everywhere all year round. You can catch ide well in May. It is necessary to hunt for carp with the onset of June.

Lake Yarkul

The lake is one of the most favorite places for those who like to fish and relax. Has rich fish quantity. It is located 30 kilometers from the village of Kupino. The area is 489 hectares, and there is a base reservoir for the Kupinsky fishermen's society.

Fishing there has limitations, since the lake exists to maintain the number of fish in the Chano-Baraba system of lakes. Here you are allowed to fish only with one float rod or one bottom tackle. Fishing from a boat is strictly prohibited, and the tackle must have no more than 2 hooks. During winter, fishing on the lake is not permitted.

If you are planning to go fishing in Yarkul, do not pay attention to the restriction; you will definitely not be left without fish, because there is a lot of it there. Even if you fish with one fishing rod, with one hook, you will be able to have a good time and return home with an excellent catch.

In most cases what is caught here is:

  • Perch;
  • Roach;
  • crucian carp;
  • Bream.

Just like in other waters of the Novosibirsk region, it is better to fish here with worms, maggots and barley. Fishermen do not always use bait, although sometimes with its help you can increase the bite percentage when the fish are not very active.

Chuysky tract: only mountains can be better than mountains

Having jumped over the Chike-Taman pass, we find ourselves in a genuine mountain region. We had often encountered mountains along the way before, but now they come close to the road, hanging over it, forming so-called booms, which we will encounter constantly on this day of the journey.

A bom is a high sheer rock (essentially a cliff) that drops sharply to a road or river bed. Previously, they were a very serious (sometimes insurmountable) obstacle on the way, but in the 20th century (with the development of explosives) the situation with traffic around them became much easier.

Bomas are very diverse and often individual, so many of them have their own names.

Sandy bum

Sandy bom (or sand wall) is a unique place of its kind on the Chuysky tract (687 kilometer), which is a high (up to 20 meters) sheer wall of dense sand from which cobblestones of different sizes stick out here and there. The sand is quite dense and crumbles very slowly, which is facilitated to a certain extent by short-sighted tourists who want to leave their autograph on these beautiful walls.

There are different theories about the origin of these walls. The most popular is the one that talks about a large-scale natural disaster: the ancient sea, which existed in the Kurai steppe region thousands (if not tens of thousands) years ago, broke through a mountain dam and swept along the Katun riverbed, leaving behind numerous sandy terraces. Typically these terraces are flat.

However, a road was being paved in this area, which is why such a wall was formed.

Gate Ayrytash-Bom

An artificial passage in the rocks, cut with explosives during the construction of the modern Chuysky tract. Before him, there was a pack trail here, which, they say, can still be found off to the side among the rocks.

Neighborhood of the village of Maly Yaloman

The small village of Maly Yaloman (population about 200 people) is located in a picturesque place on the banks of the Katun, which here makes a sharp turn of almost 180°.

Not far from the village there are several beautiful bomas, a section of the old Chuisky tract.

And thanks to the unique microclimate, in the 1960s an experimental mountain gardening site was organized here, where apples, pears, and plums were grown. However, now the garden is in disrepair.

Village Inya

We are approaching the village of Inya. We meet the Katun terraces again. In the area of the village, the Chuisky tract returns to the right bank of the Katun.

The village is not very large (about 700 inhabitants), located at 703 km. Chuysky tract at a distance from Biysk about 365 km.

The main reason for the founding and development of the village was the development of the Chuisky tract. In the 1930s, cattle from Mongolia were driven through the village, a driver's school operated here, a club, a hospital, a library, and a school were built, the standard of living in the village was quite high, unlike today, when the village is clearly going through hard times.

Attractions in the village of Inya and its surroundings

The main attraction of the village is the old double-cable suspension bridge , built in 1936 according to the design of engineer S.A. Tsaplin, and therefore the bridge is often called Tsaplinsky. The length of the bridge is 142 meters, the span over the river is 100 meters.

Currently, the bridge is not operational (although it is in good condition); it is a monument to the history and culture of the Russian Federation.

New reinforced concrete bridge , built in 1970.

monument to Lenin in the Altai Mountains , erected in 1936 at the entrance to the village. The monument is quite unusual - a relatively small sculpture stands on a high spiral pedestal. It can be seen that the monument is well looked after today.

Not far from the village there are
the Inin Steles - a monument to the ancient Pazyryk culture.
The steles, according to scientists, once enclosed an ancient memorial complex; on them you can see stripes symbolically indicating the head, body and legs, and one of the steles has a dagger knocked out on its belt. A small stone woman near the steles used to have a head. Already in modern times it was broken off and taken to the Gorno-Altaisk museum.

Not far from them there is a mound .

In Ina you can refuel, there is a store, but we didn’t need it and we drove further along the picturesque boma of Bichiktu Kaya.

Confluence of Chuya and Katun (Chui-Oozy)

This sacred place for the indigenous people is located at 714 km. Chuysky tract. Here in 2002, a small natural park “Chui-oozy” was created, which translates as “Mouth of Chuya”.

Like any sacred place in Altai, there are many ribbons, stone wells and pyramids.

The path leads to an observation deck, which offers magnificent views of the surrounding area.

In general, ideally, water should be multi-colored.

Merger of Chuya and Katun. Photo from the Internet

However, at the beginning of June, during the flood, the waters of the rivers differed only in that one of them was slightly browner than the other.

They say that in the folds of this mountain you can see the face of a hero and the head of a horse. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t.

Not far from the confluence of the Chuya and Katun there is a cafe of national cuisine “Chui-oozy”, and next to it is a museum and a recreation area.

White Bom (Ak-Bom)

We move towards White Bom past mountains of various bizarre shapes.

White Bom is a high and noticeable cliff at 741 kilometers of the Chuysky tract, a natural monument of the Altai Republic. Before a modern road was built here, the section of the road near Bely Bom was one of the most dangerous on the Chuysky tract.

On the western slope of the mountain there is the Big Belobomskaya Cave, 146 meters long. From the Chuysky tract there are wonderful views of the Katun Valley. The cafe-hotel “Ak-Bom” is also located here.

Not far from the road itself there is an obelisk in honor of the fighters for Soviet power who died here during the Civil War.

Monument to Kolka Snegirev and a section of the old highway

Literally three kilometers from Belyi Bom it is worth stopping to examine the unique memorial in honor of the drivers of the Chuysky tract.

Right on the river bank stands the famous composition-monument to Kolka Snegirev. This, by the way, is a modern version; the more modest old one is now in the Chuysky Tract Museum in Biysk.

On the pedestal you can read the famous ballad telling about the life and death of the desperate driver Kolka Snegirev.

The prototype of the hero of the ballad, by the way, did not die at all, but lived to an old age and married another heroine of the ballad, Raechka, who was not a driver, but worked in a canteen.

But this does not make the ballad lose its attractiveness; at one time it was very popular on the Chuysky tract.

The view from the memorial to Katun is simply excellent.

A little higher, on the other side of the road, closer to the mountains, you can go see a section of the old highway.

Shirlak Waterfall (Maiden's Tears)

We are going to the Shirlak waterfall.

The waterfall is located at 759 km. The Chuysky tract is on its left side and is clearly visible directly from the road. If you wish, you can walk along the path about 50 meters to the place where the water falls.

Near the waterfall there is some unnamed picturesque bom; not far from the route there is a parking area (gazebo, trash cans, information board).

Water fall height: 20-25 meters. At the end of spring and beginning of summer there is a lot of water and everything is clearly visible even from the other side of the road.

Like most other memorable places, Shirlak waterfall has a legend explaining its name.

Aktash We are going towards the village of Aktash. In the distance, the snowy peaks of the Chui Mountains begin to appear more and more often.

At the 788th kilometer of the Chuysky tract we enter the village of Aktash (454 km from Biysk). The village is relatively young, founded in 1942 as a settlement for workers of a mercury mine and plant, who operated here until 2004, after which the enterprise was liquidated.

Currently, about 3,000 people live here. In the village there is a hotel, a gas station, a service station, a cafe, a hotel, and a branch of Sberbank of the Russian Federation. Not far from the village there are several tourist centers.

In addition, a border detachment is based in Aktash, where you can issue permission to visit the border area.

From here the Ulagansky tract goes away from the Chuysky tract, along which you can get to the Katu-Yaryk pass (our goal for one of the days of the trip) and further - through the Chulyshman valley to the southern shore of Lake Teletskoye.

Novosibirsk reservoirs

We present information about reservoirs of the Novosibirsk region

Ob Reservoir

The reservoir was created in 1957-59, artificially on the Ob River, during the launch of the Novosibirsk hydroelectric power station. It was divided into two parts: one part is located in the Novosibirsk region, the other in the Altai Territory.

The reservoir area occupies 1070 square kilometers, and its length is 200 kilometers. The deepest point is 25 meters, and the greatest width is 22 kilometers. When winter comes, the reservoir freezes completely.

There, as in the Ob, there are a lot of fish. For lovers of predatory fish, there is always pike perch, pike and perch. Those who prefer white fish can catch:

  • Roaches;
  • Bream;
  • Carp;
  • crucian carp;
  • Line;
  • Yazya.

The reservoir also contains valuable fish species:

  • Grayling;
  • Peled;
  • Chir;
  • Sturgeon;
  • Sterlet.

In winter, you can catch burbot. It is prohibited to catch many species of fish, especially valuable ones, without a license, since they are all included in the Red Book.

Fish in the Ob Reservoir bite throughout the year. In summer you can fish from the shore, but it will bring more results from a boat. The fact is that the coastline is either overgrown with bushes or swampy, so the second method is much better.

Predator lovers must have a spinning rod with them. Due to the great depth of the reservoir, it is possible to catch large specimens. Those who are going fishing in those parts are advised to stock up on strong gear and large baits. Spoons and large wobblers are well suited as bait. To catch perch, you need to have a spinner. Near the shore, where the depth is shallow, you can use baits such as poppers.

Trolling is very popular on the reservoir. Many fishermen use swimming equipment that is equipped to support spinning rods, while using echo sounders. The fishing rods are also unique - trolling. Wobblers are used as bait, which drop down to 9 meters when cast.

Hunters for white fish use float schools and donks. In the first case, match rods are more suitable. When fishing for crucian carp, most people prefer to use fly rods. It is important to put a sensitive float on them, with a small sinker and a hook; the fishing line is not thick.

On those days when bream takes well, in order to catch it, you need to swim out with bottom equipment. This type of gear is a long cast: a spinning rod with a feeder at the end, from which, as a rule, there are 2-3 hooks. The fish prefers to bite on maggots, pearl barley and worms. Bream does not mind eating sandwiches from the listed baits. Fishermen who catch bream using long casting always equip one fishing rod per predator, hooking live bait to the end of the rig. This method can bring the fisherman trophy pike perch or burbot.

White fish should be looked for near the shores of the reservoir, in creeks and estuaries. They are usually caught in the holes formed there. To catch pike perch, you need to go to the river fairway. Trophy perch and pike are caught in these same places. In the area of reeds and in areas where there is grass, the perch is found smaller.

In winter, there are a large number of fishermen here. During this period, there are no fewer people who like to fish in the reservoir than in open water. Using a jig you have a chance to catch roach and perch. When using vertical spinners, you can catch pike or pike perch. Installing girders is very popular for catching predators.

The burbot bites well during this period. The predator begins to behave actively when cold weather sets in. You can catch it using girders, and use live bait or pieces of raw fish as bait. The fishing process occurs from the bottom; it bites more actively at night.

Berdsky Bay

This is part of the Ob Reservoir. The largest bay on the reservoir has a weak water flow.

Its length is about 30 kilometers, and the width of the bay is maximum 1.5 kilometers. As for the depth, it varies. Near the shore it is 1-1.5 meters, but there are also deep spots, in some places up to 20 meters. The bottom is muddy everywhere.

On the right side the bank is steep, with huge pine trees growing there. On the left is a gentler approach to the water. People there often fish and just relax on the beaches. The bay is full of a lot of fish, different types. Since there are many valuable species of fish there, and fishing requires a permit and a license, ordinary fishermen are always only interested in:

  1. Roach;
  2. Carp;
  3. Bream;
  4. Pike;
  5. Perch.

When using a boat, there is a chance to catch a trophy specimen, but everyone is happy with fishing from the shore. Most people use bottom and float equipment here, for white fish, of course. Spinning rods and rods are used to hunt for predatory fish.

Fishing on the Ina

Fishing on the Ina

Many people don’t even know about the Ina River, a small tributary of the Ob, but among experienced fishermen it is known as one of the few places where you can easily get trophies.

Without exaggeration, my fishing experience there is enormous, because my summer cottage is located on this wonderful river, and I devote all my free time to fishing. Of course, the river cannot boast of either pike perch or large pike, but there are still fish in it. The best trophy can be considered a small pike or large perch. I usually catch such fish with a spoon or a small twister with a light head. The bait must be moved slowly but evenly.

The use of wobblers is not advisable, since predators usually prey on smaller fish. You should look for pike under snags, on rifts - anywhere where fish can hide waiting for their prey. Perch is found in fast currents, and even at depth. Oddly enough, I go for perch with a heavier bait than for pike. Naturally, I use a spinning rod to catch predators.

In addition to predators, there are other fish that are no less valuable: bream, ide, chub, large roach, and even catfish. They are caught using the well-known float rod or donka (especially catfish). I’ll say right away that I caught only two catfish there: one of them weighed about 1.5 kg, and the other almost 3! And this is over ten years of fishing experience! So there is no need to hope for such a trophy - if you are lucky, then you will be lucky.

Traditionally, it bites well on maggots, dough, peas and semolina porridge, but is reluctant to take on worms and bloodworms. If everything is clear with maggots and dough, then I would like to tell you in more detail about preparing bait from peas and semolina.

Dry peas need to be steamed, brought to softness, then crushed, added flour and rolled into balls. These balls need to be attached to the hook so that the tip of the hook peeks out just a little. Semolina bait is made in this way: pour semolina into a cup and brew it with boiling water, begin to actively stir. As a result, we should end up with something like one big lump, which children in kindergarten don’t like so much. Pinch off a piece from the resulting semolina dough and place it on the hook.

A float rod is a universal tool; you can catch anyone with it, but with a donk you can only catch catfish and bream, which lie flat on the bottom. You can also pull minnows, but is this an activity worthy of a real fisherman? Large fish usually live in holes, rifts, and algae thickets. You can catch it only during the evening and morning rush; in the midday heat you can only waste your time and nerves.

Thus, I hope you learned a lot about Ina and how to fish there. Be sure to sit with a fishing rod on the banks of this small but proud river.

The review of the reservoir was prepared by Petr Manyakhin.

Reviews from fishermen

  1. Berdsk. At dawn we left the “Stones” base and headed towards the reservoir. The holes were made approximately 8-10 meters apart. We used different baits and baits, there was no bite! We walked everywhere, we didn’t even manage to catch a ruff! No tail for everyone!
  2. Coastal. My friend and I managed to get to a reservoir in the Borovaya region. The weather is excellent, there are practically no people, the fish are also not active. A bunch of fishermen were sitting in the distance, and perhaps they were biting there. One could see periodic waves of arms, running from place to place and drilling new holes. They continued to do such actions all day long, and we along with them. The bite was not bad, but mostly one small thing, sometimes trophy specimens came across. We sat in the stadium, with a depth of about 7 meters. We passed by fishermen who were catching perch and ruff at 3.5 meters.
  3. Matveevka. Came here after lunch. I threw a 12 gram jig. There are so many hooks! He broke the tackle immediately. A fisherman was nearby and recommended using an offset hook. After this I didn’t break the tackle, but the fish refused to bite. I sat for a while and went home.
  4. Kashlam. Yesterday I went out for night fishing on the Kashlam River in order to catch a chebak, and at the same time test a new tent to see if it is suitable for night fishing in winter. From the very morning he came to his cherished place and fed the holes with Dunaev. While I was lowering the second fishing rod, there was already a bite on the first one, there was an initiative. The fish were active well, after lunch the bite became a little worse and almost nothing. By 13:00 I already had about 3 kilograms of chebak, and sometimes a perch deigned to hatch. When the time passed 15:00, it was decided to set up a tent and prepare for the night. While I was collecting firewood and preparing soup, the fish sometimes hatched, the last chebak was caught at 20:00, then the bite stopped until the morning. The echo sounder showed a large number of fish, there was even a good-sized perch, but honestly I didn’t want to bite, only at the anchor(. Good luck to everyone!
  5. Chan. I was in these places yesterday. In the area of Shipyagino Island. There were some pretty good chebak and small perch biting. As a tackle, I used a filly, the color was green, I didn’t hook the bait. He fed him with a hunchback. I drilled about 15 holes, but the fish only bit in 2. I really wanted to find the crucian carp, but it didn’t work out. It turns out that we had to look for him near Kolotovo Island, but I stayed in place and continued to bomb the chebak. You can safely drive around the lake, the road is excellent. In total I caught a bag somewhere. The weather was great, the fish were biting, and nothing else was needed. No tail, no scales for everyone!
