Sea fishing

Sea fishing in Abkhazia can be exciting and productive throughout the year. Most visiting anglers prefer to fish from the shore. Local residents who have watercraft at their disposal usually go out to the “big water”. If you have certain gear and skills, you can catch here:

  • mackerel;
  • sea crucian;
  • mullet;
  • mullet;
  • Katrana;
  • sea dragon;
  • garfish;
  • brown trout

All these species, with the exception of mullet, lead a predatory lifestyle. They bite well on spinning rods and sea tackle called “tyrant”.

To fish for sea predators in Abkhazia, it is better to choose night time.

To get a decent catch, you don’t have to go to the most remote corners of the coast. Most of the species presented consistently bite near the private sector.

Horse mackerel

Horse mackerel is the most popular recreational fishing object in the Republic of Abkhazia. The Black Sea variety of this predator has an average length of about 20 cm, but occasionally there are flocks dominated by individuals whose size exceeds 50 cm.

In the spring, schools of horse mackerel rise to the surface of the water and are easily caught from the shore using float gear. Used as bait:

  • fresh shrimp;
  • sliced fish;
  • chicken meat;
  • worm.

In summer and autumn, the predator feeds in the middle layers of water. During this period, the most effective gear is one consisting of the following elements:

  • hard spinning rod about 2.5 m long;
  • inertial coil of the “Nevskaya” type;
  • main monofilament line with a diameter of 0.4 mm;
  • fluorocarbon shock leader about 2 m long and 0.20 mm thick;
  • several hooks on short leashes.

The length of the leashes should be no more than 4 cm, which will prevent them from twisting.

Important! Special attention should be paid to hooks, which should have a long shank and a shiny chrome finish.

With this method of fishing, the nozzle is usually not used. Such gear can be successfully used when fishing from piers or boats.

During the active course of horse mackerel, no one is left without a catch.

On the Black Sea in the vicinity of Abkhazia, horse mackerel is successfully caught in winter. During this period, the predator is inactive, but it can be caught using light spinning tackle. A silicone imitation worm that does not have its own game is used as an artificial bait. It is mounted on a jig head weighing 3–7 g, with a beveled front part. When jerking, such a design scours from side to side and provokes sluggish fish to bite.

Good places for fishing horse mackerel from the shore are located in the Pitsunda area. In Starye Gagra there is a large pier where this predator actively bites from July to September.

Sea fishing in Abkhazia

I, as the daughter of a fisherman, indeed a Volga fisherman, have repeatedly taken part in fishing, both ordinary and winter, I don’t want to remember winter fishing at all)). But I have never been to sea fishing. I’m not an avid fisherman at all, but the moment you pull out a fishing rod and there’s your catch on it, excitement appears and some animal instincts wake up, honestly.

Sea fishing in Abkhazia.

I admit, I can’t put a worm on a hook; I feel terrible sadness and pity. Therefore, spinning with spinners is the best option. I go to the sea often, but I went sea fishing for the first time only last year.

Ah, Abkhazia, I can talk about it endlessly, which sometimes infuriates those around me, so lately I’ve been trying to restrain my emotions. There are countless beauties there, but I want to tell you about sea fishing. I can safely say that these were the most vivid impressions of our short visit to the land of the Soul.

We were invited to go fishing by local relatives, or rather, we asked for it ourselves. Of course, they also carry vacationers, it costs mere pennies, something like 900 rubles for four hours.

You need to go to sea early. Firstly, there is some kind of wind rose there, and in the morning the sea is usually calm, which you will agree is important, because not everyone’s vestibular system allows them to hang out on the waves for several hours.

Secondly, it’s not hot, because sitting in the middle of the sea under the scorching sun is not a pleasant pleasure.

We put the boat on the water, and a local fisherman takes you away from the shore. The view is amazing. The daylight is slowly falling out from behind the mountains. Somewhere far away on the beach you see the tiny first vacationers who came to expose their bodies to the free sun. Hello, red sun!

There are not many fishermen in Tsandripsha. They all park their boats in the central part of the beach, and finding them is not difficult. For fishing you need a spinning rod with a regular reel, and about seven or eight hooks on it. If you are not traveling by car, then carrying a fishing rod with you to the sea seems somewhat problematic and inappropriate. Those with whom you agree on fishing will provide you with everything you need, i.e. fishing rod!

Fishing from a boat is not a tricky business. The fish move in schools. The hook will most likely catch anchovy, goby and horse mackerel. “Fox” is also caught - the local name is, I suspect it is a stingray, the taste is good when fried. And many other fish, the names of which remain a mystery to me. You slowly unwind the reel, and as soon as you feel vibrations, you begin to lift it. Of course, I dreamed of cool things, but I couldn’t even imagine that such a thing was possible. The fish went, what is called “fool”, and mind you, without any bait.

Horse mackerel was walking. We pulled out 5-7 fish on one line. It seems impossible to stop. In a couple of hours we caught a whole bucket. But fishermen are not the only fish hunters. Where there is a school of fish, dolphins will definitely appear. Before that, I had only seen dolphins in the dolphinarium, and once far out to sea.

But when a school of dolphins began to frolic and jump near the boat, I felt wild/childish/mad/unimaginable/sincere delight. We dropped our fishing rods and started watching the dolphins. They moved behind a school of fish. They jumped out of the water synchronously in pairs, performed intricate peruet, in a word, enjoyed life! In the end, the dolphins swam away to do their dolphin business, and we and our human ones went to the shore.

The sun rose high. Satisfied and a little tired, we moored to the shore, where we were met by a crowd of vacationers who were interested in the catch. Rest assured, if your catch turns out to be not so successful, the owner of the boat will definitely give you his catch.

It’s easy to make an agreement on fishing, there are a lot of offers on the Internet, ANEPT can help you, place an order, agree on a time, you can go fishing not only in the morning, but also in the evening, and, as they say, seven feet under your keel. Unforgettable impressions are guaranteed!

Fishing on the rivers and lakes of the republic

Fishing in Abkhazia can be interesting not only at sea, but also in freshwater reservoirs. Fishing conditions on the rivers and lakes of the republic are more familiar to anglers in central Russia.

Bzyb River

Fishing on the Bzyb River can be a great pleasure. The following species of fish live in its waters and are regularly caught by anglers:

  • river trout;
  • Caucasian chub;
  • bleak;
  • barbel;
  • subdust;
  • fisherman

This river is also home to roach and pike, which are familiar to most anglers. If on the Bzybi itself the river variety of trout bites, then on its numerous tributaries you can count on catching brook trout. Local trout are usually caught using spinning rods.

On a note! Despite the fact that the river is small, it has quite a decent depth and a very strong current, so it is better to use spinners with a heavy core as bait. The tributaries are often fished with fly fishing gear.

Together with the trout, the Caucasian chub often sits on the “turntables”. This predator prefers to occupy calmer areas of the river and is more often found near the shore. In the same quiet places you can find bleak, which, given the local abundance of fish, is not of much interest to the angler.

Barbel, podust and vimba are caught using bottom gear. Considering the strength of the current, the weight of the load should be at least 100 g. The nozzle is usually used:

  • worm;
  • pressed cake;
  • canned corn;
  • river crustacean.

The main requirement for the bait is that it stays well on the hook, which is necessary in conditions of a powerful flow.

There is a trout farm on Bzybi, which was founded back in 1934. Several species of salmon are bred here; during heavy floods, they escape the river and are caught on amateur fishing gear.

Lake Ritsa

Mountain Lake Ritsa is also a favorite place for visiting fishermen. It is located in the Gudauta region of the Republic and is located at an altitude of more than 900 m. Its length is 2.5 km, and its width ranges from 250 to 900 m. The average depth is 60 m, the maximum is 131 m.

Trout in Abkhazia can be found even in very small rivers and streams.

The water in Ritsa rarely warms up above 10 degrees, so its main inhabitant is trout. This predator begins to peck in early May. Here it is caught not only with spinning or fly fishing tackle, but also with a fly rod, the hook of which is baited with canned corn.

On a note! In addition to trout, Caucasian chub is caught in Ritsa. To catch it, use ultralight spinning tackle. The bait is usually small wobblers up to 5 cm long and up to 2 m deep.

Whitefish are also acclimatized in the lake, but its capture is quite rare. Due to the great depth of the reservoir, the bulk of the fish stays in the coastal zone.

Bzyb River (Abkhazia): brief description

The length of the reservoir is 110 kilometers. Vessels cannot move along it. Even though the river basin does not have a large area (1510 sq. km), the reservoir is deep. This is due to the fact that in western Transcaucasia there is a fairly high level of precipitation. The river flows through the gorge. Because of this, large fluctuations in water level are observed - from 10 to 15 m.

If we talk about the animal world, then the Bzyb is a river in which there are a lot of salmon and trout. Yupshara belongs to its basin. Near it is Lake Ritsa. There is a highway nearby.

Considering the river from a scientific point of view, one can see that it is complex and diverse in comparison with other bodies of water located on the territory of Abkhazia. It is very popular among tourists. On the right bank of the Bzyb there is the Blue Lake, which is of karst origin.

Suspension bridge over the Bzyb River

It is imperative to talk about what attracts tourists to this region. The most interesting thing for them will not even be the cave. Rather, they are attracted by the emotions that can be obtained by interacting with one of the most interesting devices on the pond.

As is already clear from the description above, Bzyb is a river that flows along mountain peaks. Its beginning is in the western Caucasus, then it flows through the city of Pitsunda, descends onto the flat terrain and flows into the Black Sea. The length of the river is 110 kilometers, several bridges were built over it. Both of them are hanging. They are made of metal and lumber. To all non-professional tourists, these structures seem weak, but the first impression is deceptive. The bridges are strong, so no one will end up in the waters of this river. By the way, not far from one of the suspended structures there is a beautiful and well-known waterfall.
