The best places for fishing on the Oka

Based on the above information, we can conclude that the Oka River includes many good places with a good bite, therefore, in this context, it will be impossible to list them all.
But it is still possible to note some of the many “fed” places, since according to reviews from Internet users, they are considered to be the most fruitful:

  • Kolomna and its surroundings (Moscow region) - the area of this small town has many small villages where fishermen often stop. It is recommended to fish here for those citizens who are “fans” of bream. For those who are hearing about this fishing place for the first time, it is worth publishing a list of towns and villages near which you can do a fair amount of fishing: Kolychevo, Trinity Lakes, Beloomutovskaya Dam;
  • Kashira (Moscow region) is a relatively small settlement, near which you can often see fishermen hunting predatory fish. Here the Oka channel is quite difficult for anglers: winding, with rocky and rocky rifts;
  • Bekhovo (Novgorod region) - this, at first glance, unremarkable village attracts a lot of fishermen in its surroundings, and throughout the year. The only negative is the fast flow, but if you get a spinning rod in advance, you can bring home a good catch in the form of a chub;

Features of open water and ice fishing on the Oka

Each of the reservoirs of the Russian Federation is unique in its own way, the same can be said about this river, which includes a range of features relating to fishing on its banks.

According to thousands of reviews from distinguished and experienced fishermen, it is noted that fishing on the Oka is best for 9 months: starting from March and ending in late November.

At this time, it is advised to catch the inhabitants of the fauna with the help of the so-called jig, this is due to the fact that at this period of time all the fish are hiding at the bottom of the river, as it becomes clayey and thereby forms many deep depressions (pits) in which they hide its inhabitants.

During this period, which covers three seasons at once, the hunt for spinning rods from the shore is going well. According to statistics, the most common catches are the following breeds of “fresh” inhabitants:

  • Bream;
  • Roach;
  • Ide;
  • Guster;
  • Pike;
  • Catfish;
  • Zander;
  • Perch;
  • Bersh;
  • Asp;

It is worth noting right away that choosing a place for fishing on the Oka is a very responsible process, which, by the way, directly depends on the time of year:

  • In winter, it is enough to drill a hole for fishing in any one you like, closer to the center of the river;
  • In the spring, it is recommended to fish in the mouths of the Oka River, since, according to experts, they are the most well-fed. You can fish on the shore using a rod;
  • In summer and autumn the situation changes dramatically; fishing takes place exclusively on the banks of the river reservoir. You need to use a spinning rod and throw the bait at least 10 meters from the citizen’s position (shore);

We suggest you familiarize yourself with: Twitching fishing techniques with different wires and the choice of wobblers
Be that as it may, there are differences between fishing in summer and winter, the only thing that connects fishing within these two seasons is certain types of fish that are active throughout the calendar year .

Fishing for peaceful fish

It is recommended to catch peaceful fish at night or early in the morning, especially when it comes to the summer season. In the spring, when spawning begins, the fish are most active, the catch can be very substantial, but do not forget that fishing will be “banned” at this time, so fishing will only be possible with special gear.

In addition, lovers of this specific hobby are advised to:

  • It is advisable to catch white (peaceful) fish in channels and estuaries, where they usually rest;
  • When the Oka water becomes clearer (in the morning, early winter), it is recommended to fish from a boat, since according to rumor, fishermen who do this will be able to come home with an excellent catch.

Catching a predator

The highest activity of predatory fish on the Oka is observed in late summer and autumn. Most often, pike and pike perch are caught on the hook, but this does not mean that you cannot catch, for example, burbot.

Fishing on the Oka - the best places for fishing, choice of tackle and bait || Catching catfish on the Oka in the Moscow region

Here, a lot depends on the region, because the river flows in seven regions, where the level of activity of certain types of fish is different.

When catching predatory fish on the Oka, you should know:

  • It is best to catch a predator using a spinning rod, and you can also use some “tricks”;
  • Fishing can be organized both on the banks of the river and at its very epicenter - from a boat;
  • The best place for fishing for pike and pike perch is considered to be coastal stripes, the depth of which is not lower than 3 meters;

Let's celebrate! Great and correct advice for fishermen who like to fish in winter would be the recommendation to take safety items (accessories) with them in case the fisherman falls through the ice. In winter, the ice on the Oka is not uniform and can be thin in places, so you should be careful and not drill holes close to each other.

Gear selection

After choosing the right place for fishing, the second step on the path to the desired catch is the correct choice of gear.

So, for catching peaceful fish on the Oka it is recommended to use:

  • Spinning;
  • “Mugs” - fishing with live bait (a special design sold only in a certain type of store);
  • Float rod (use live bait as bait);

When talking about catching predatory fish, the situation changes somewhat:

  • The use of a spinning rod is most important when catching predators. Fishing using this gear occurs in several ways: From a boat;
  • Using a special “Path” design;
  • Trolling;

Most fish inhabiting the Oka River, especially bream, have a very developed sense of smell, therefore, when choosing baits and baits, it is recommended to pay attention to the fact that they have a strong odor, in other words, flavorings play a big role in the baiting process:

  • Chocolate (great for luring predatory fish);
  • Garlic (used to bait both crucian carp and bream; you should be prepared that a lot of crayfish will “crawl” to the smell);
  • Banana and Peach (flavors with a similar smell, best used in the summer);

If we talk about specific manufacturing companies and brands, then to make the task easier, the fisherman is advised to buy the following baits:

  • “Unikorm “Aromatics” is a well-known brand that produces both groundbait and bait (it has a large assortment and variety of products);
  • "Magastrik" is an American manufacturer whose products can be found on the shelves of domestic stores;
  • "Traper" is a manufacturing company from Poland. The assortment includes more than 20 types of baits and baits;

Report on paid fishing on the Oka for July. Kwok, catfish The first week of July 2021 on the Oka River was not very hot, the water was cool and predators were caught during the day and only on a retractable leash. There were no evening outings at all, it cooled down overnight and in the mornings it was possible to catch bersh, perch and medium-sized (up to kg) pike perch . Chub and pike perch on wobblers also bit well . But the hit of our paid fishing trips was the kwok catfish . Thanks to the heating of the water, the catfish showed unprecedented activity for the first time this year. Of the five fishing trips in July for quok, only one turned out to be not very interesting - one small catfish was caught. But on the other four, our guests managed to get the full adrenaline rush; almost all the bites were in the “give back the spinning rod” style. There hasn’t been such a great bite on the Oka for a long time; after all, our catfish is the northernmost in the world, and I have never seen a more capricious fish. The behavior of Oka barbels is unpredictable and every time fishing for them is like a lottery. In the last week of fishing, my guests and I managed to catch the most - three catfish ; the rest consistently caught two per morning. Oka catfish are not large in size due to the very low average annual water temperature. It is rarely possible to catch fish larger than ten kilograms; the average size of catfish in our catches is about five kg. The largest one in July weighed 8.3 kg and so gave my guest the heat (in the summer even not the largest catfish gives an avalanche of delight), the fuss in the boat was incredible, only on the seventh or eighth time was it possible to get the fish into the landing net, so I think this fishing will be remembered by guests for a long time. I would like to separately note that the correct spinning rod for fishing with kwok plays a huge role when hooking and landing catfish. For this fishing, in my opinion, rods designed for trolling or deep sea fishing are best suited. The optimal size of a spinning rod is from one and a half to two meters, with a dough of up to 150-200 grams (for Oka). For the lower Volga it is necessary to use 300-400g with dough. Saving on spinning rods for such fishing definitely leads to breakage and loss of large fish, especially since reliable spinning rods in this segment are not expensive. Personally, I use a Power Stick rod from Black Hole , with dough up to 150g, costing 3,700 rubles. For Oka, I recommend using sliding weights from 3 to 4 ounces (depending on the current) and hooks 7.0 and 8.0 from Ovner. As bait , I don’t bother and use local pearl barley (and I like to eat crayfish myself), because if the catfish doesn’t bite, then at least give it king prawns and lobsters - the result will be the same. In general, fishing with kwok is not a difficult task, but as they say, there are nuances. Therefore, we invite everyone to this exciting fishing. In the meantime, here are a few photos and videos of Oka catfish. PS If you want to catch trophy catfish on a kwok , then I strongly recommend going to the Vetlyanka fishing base , which is on the lower Volga. Well, of course, you can test the Power Stick spinning rod from Black Hole when you come to me for fishing, and also buy it, if you like this spinning rod, in our spinning rod store .

Reviews about fishing on the Oka

Recently I went fishing with friends. By common decision we went to the Oka River. In principle, I am satisfied with everything: the catch is not bad, I managed to bring home 11 kilograms of bream. The only thing I didn’t really like was the river bank, which was clayey: it was terribly uncomfortable.

Together with my wife and son, I once went fishing to the village of Bekhovo, which is located not far from our place of residence. Initially we planned to spend a day “in nature” (we took a tent). But the bite was surprisingly good: in 7 hours we managed to catch 8 kilograms of chub. We returned home the same day and prepared a delicious dinner. I recommend to everyone!

I was never a fan of fishing, but one day my godmothers persuaded us to go with them. As a non-professional observing the process from the outside, I can say the following: fishing on the Oka River is very interesting, I personally liked the most the fact that the catch is not monotonous, that is, you can catch both pike and perch, chub and bream. As for the gear, we used a spinning rod, which in my opinion is the most normal option. In short, I'm happy with everything.

We took a tent, food and went fishing one winter. We didn’t have to drive for too long; we stopped near the city of Kolomna, where the well-known Oka River flows. I liked everything: the nature, the activity of the fish and the regular bite. But, either due to inattention or due to a coincidence of circumstances, the holes were drilled close to each other, as a result of which I went under the ice. Fortunately, the ice was not so thick, so the inevitable was avoided.

For many years I have been actively traveling to many cities in Russia in search of a good place for fishing. Yes, over the years there has been some good fishing and some not so good fishing. As a result, I want to say that an equally fruitful river for fishing flows in my native land - the Oka River. So, the chub, for example, swims here right off the shore; you can catch it with a regular fishing rod. As for other fish, you can catch them using a spinning rod, having previously thrown bait and strong flavors into the water (for example, “Magastrik”).

During my 12 years of experience as a fisherman, I had to fish on the banks of more than one river. But only the fauna of the Oka never ceases to amaze me. Every time I want to bring fish home for my wife, I go to the Oka River, because I know that the catch will be guaranteed. So, I catch “fresh” inhabitants using a spinning rod with live bait, and it gives its results: more than once I had to struggle to pull a pike weighing up to 6.7 kilograms out of a reservoir.

Although I’m not interested in fishing, I couldn’t resist going with my father for company. What can I say? We stopped near the village of Kashir, which is located relatively close to Moscow. The bite was good, but since we were there in the summer in the heat, the fish activity dropped sharply by lunchtime (around 11:00). As a result, already at 13:00 we began to get ready to go home, because there was complete “silence”. We caught it with a spinning rod and used a regular worm as bait: we managed to catch 5 chub and 3 perch.

We also have Oka catfish in the Moscow region...

Many of our Moscow fishermen love to catch catfish, but they never imagine that it is possible to catch catfish not 500 km from Moscow. And literally 100 km from Moscow, since catfish are found right under our noses. For example, Oka - sit with the donkey overnight, surely our experienced fisherman will be able to catch this beautiful predator! We have a lot of it in the Moscow region, but the problem is that here it is quite small. a copy of 5-10 kilograms is already a “Moscow Region” trophy!

On the Oka I met a lot of catfish who spent the night precisely for the sake of catching catfish. True, they came across not only catfish, but also bream, and a decent-sized silver bream, which also sometimes makes them happy. After all, their task is to catch catfish! The tackle is quite simple - a “snack”. For those who are not familiar with this gear, I can describe it. An ordinary fishing rod is about 2.10 - 2.40 m long. The test does not play a special role, since the bite is determined not by the tip of the rod, like with a feeder. But still, preferably no more than 30-60 g. Basically, our old and tried and tested bell is used as a bite alarm. While fishing, I often saw that fishermen simply attached a bell to the tip of the rod, but when hooking, they simply lost it. There are many such fishermen, I even began to be afraid of them, since a bell can shine a light in your eye! I advise you to do it like all normal fishermen: Tie a bell with a rope to the base of the stand on which you place the spinning rod or fishing rod, secure it to the fishing line so that at the slightest hook it simply flies off the main line, and does not interfere with your fishing. In this case, at least you won’t miss the bell, which often flies into the water, but also, possibly, your next trophy! Which is no less important in our Moscow region conditions!

All our Moscow region fishermen mainly use either a worm or a bark beetle as bait. But experience shows that using worms during night fishing is more effective than using other baits known to us. Recently I was given a chance to try worms grown using German technology, DENDROBENA. Here's what you need! When using this worm, and it is grown quite fatty, the chance of catching a catfish increases. Those. our earthworm is just resting. When I planted the next worm, a certain fear took over me - I thought that it would bite me, but fortunately this did not happen. And most importantly, at night, no matter how much we would like to admit it, we fishermen often fall asleep. But here's the thing - this worm doesn't fall asleep at all, he fidgets and fidgets. Surely you are all familiar with the famous California worm. After its appearance on the Russian market, all Russian fishermen stopped believing in artificially grown worms. But then, something happened that is worth believing in - DENDROBENA. It will take some real experience to mount it properly as it is a truly active worm. Make sure he doesn't strangle your finger! He has more than enough strength... Well, okay, maybe it looks like a small advertisement, but I still recommend it!

To catch catfish on the Oka, try to use carp hooks from MUSTAD or OWNER. I find these hooks to be the strongest. At least my experience shows this. I can’t recommend the rooms to you, since each fisherman has his own room. Each fisherman has his own number. I also recommend using braided line with a diameter of 0.25 - 0.4 when catching catfish. Why braid because it is stronger, though it absorbs less, but this can be compensated for on the rod. You also won't have to worry about the quality of your casting. Some anglers use braid, but after every fishing they have problems with their fingers. It is not good. To avoid this situation, use a regular bandage wrapped around your index finger or on the finger that holds the main line.

Privada

Does Somu need bait? Of course you need it, use the meat of local crustaceans and fish carcasses as bait. But the most important thing is that your bait should look more appetizing and more flavorful than bait. As a feeder, you can use any feeder for the same bream. It’s just that instead of “unifeed” and “float” you need to equip the feeder with pieces of fish, crayfish meat, and sometimes even lard. For example, on the Don River it is one of the most popular baits for catfish, although it is added to the legs of frogs. This is exactly what catfish bait looks like on the river. Don. If you fish on smaller rivers, then, like all the authors of the articles, I advise you to use our old bait - a bag of chopped worms. If possible, “pack” them into soil or clay, this will increase the likelihood that the worms will take longer to get out of the soil. For bait, use a regular earthworm or dung worm, but for bait, use earthworms or DENDROBENA worms. What do I think is better...
