Legend and description
According to Chinese mythology, there was an evil white dragon in the Amur River that destroyed fishing vessels. After which a kind black dragon swam into the river and defeated the creature that brought evil to people. Then the Amur acquired the name “Heihe” - “dark river”, and after that the local peoples gave it another name - “Heilongjiang”. Translated: “river of the dark dragon.”
There are other names, the river is also called “Damur” and “Amar”, translated as “big river”. The Amur flows through the Russian Far East and Asia, only through its eastern part. Its length is 2824 km. The Mongols gave another name to the Amur - “broad river”. It flows through three countries:
2% of the entire length of the Amur falls on Mongolia;- Approximately 44% are in China;
- 54% of the river flows through Russia.
In the Russian Federation, the river is divided into the Lower Amur, passing through the lower part of the Khabarovsk region, into the Middle Amur, flowing through Blagoveshchensk and reaching the Khabarovsk region, and the upper part of the Amur is located in the Blagoveshchensk region.
