About fishing on Manych today
The Rostov region has many places where excellent conditions for fishing have been created; it is for this reason that it attracts admirers of fishing here, like a magnet, for whom not only the catch is important, but also the local landscapes. Everyone who visited there experienced first-hand what fishing on the Manych River is like. Clear mirror water, beautiful views and an abundance of different fish. What else do you need?
It should be noted that the ecology on the Manych River was in poor condition until recently; it was all due to industrial emissions from enterprises that heavily polluted the river in large quantities. Today the situation has changed. Fishermen who often fish in these places increasingly began to notice an increase in the number of crayfish, which, very importantly, do not live in polluted waters.
Fishing on Manych
According to operational intelligence, large perch are being caught on the Manych River. I sweep aside Frunze, Shchuchy, and other places I wanted to visit over the weekend and rush to Vesely. I’m rushing, to say this strongly, because against the wind with a trailer my car stubbornly refused to accelerate more than 80 km/h. I arrive at the place, the water has fallen more than a meter, and where, according to my calculations, I should drop the boat along the pebble beach, I see the following picture. There is about 5m between the water and the pebbles. mixtures of clay and silt. I’m driving the trailer in, and my head is already spinning an evacuation plan from this ambush. In order not to stir up the mud again, I leave the trailer in the water. And now I’m already flying along a beautiful river, which has always given only positive emotions in my fishing practice. There are a huge number of fishermen along the banks, some are trying to catch the “ghost” pike perch, some are fishing on a feeder, some are fishing with a simple club, popularly called “spinning”, in general it’s a beauty. I stand at the first point, called “Strelka” among the locals, this is the confluence of the shipping canal and the river itself. I start fishing horizons at a depth of about 1 meter and find the target of my visit, perch, but I’m not happy with its size. Also relying on reconnaissance data, I go to the place where the Manych River flows into the Shakhaevsky Estuary, about a kilometer from the entrance I see a cluster of boats, I approach them, drop anchor, pour tea and begin to observe what people are catching there. And the people catch the big-ass perch by filling bags, buckets, cages with it, apparently there is nothing to feed the pigs. This means that the fishing tactics boil down to the fact that you need to cast into the grass, drag the bait through it, and at the border of clear water a bite follows. After having a little snack I start making casts. I put Rockvibe Shad 3 first, there are bites on every retrieve, but there is no implementation. I really didn’t want to reduce the size of the bait, but I had to use Rockvibe Shad 2, on the fourth offset machine, it did its job, implementation on each wiring. After a couple of hours of lapping all sorts of goodies, about fifty fish were caught, in the end I got tired of it, plus I was very cold and decided to go home. I came to the beach, dragged the boat onto a trailer, and drove out myself, fortunately the capabilities of the car allow it. The journey back home took less time as riding into the wind was much more fun. After fishing, I was left with a double impression: on the one hand, the weather was good, I was in good spirits and there was an uninterrupted bite, but on the other hand, the perch was very small. Apparently, fishing on the Veselovsky Reservoir has taught us that the perch should be large, plus pumping it out from a 6-meter depth is much more interesting than fishing on shallows. But fishing on Manych is a little different from these stereotypes. In any case, fishing on Manych once again pleased me. I hope this is not extreme fishing this year, and I will still catch seasoned inhabitants of the reservoir.
PS The Manych River has nothing to do with the Veselovsky Reservoir. does not have.

Fishing places on Manych
There are a lot of fishing spots, so we won’t be able to look at everything, we’ll only discuss a few.
- The place where the Stavropol-Elista railway is located on top of this reservoir is famous for its special fishing successes. It was built in the narrowed, shallow-bottomed part of this water system, which is why the current is felt there. In this place, the coastal parts of the river are overgrown with reeds, and in order to fish here with a fishing rod and float, we look for clearings in them. They are small, about 2-3 meters wide. The water is cloudy, the hook often clings to reeds and sedges, so it is best to choose a thick main line, at least 0.25 mm, so that the hook, when twitching, catches the grass and cuts it. The fishing rod should be short (4-5m). Many, both visiting and local fishermen, give preference to equipment with a small inertial reel, which acts as a storage area for a supply of fishing line.
- You can also go fishing by boat in clean, reed-free places closer to the river bed, where the depth is -1.5 m. Although the depth is slightly greater than in the reed part, this difference is enough for fish and therefore in these places large fish bite more often, and besides this, the water here is not so cloudy. They are usually caught from a boat using a fly rod or a long-casting rod. When fishing with long casts, they often use the method of pulling the bait. To do this, you need to select a small hole in the area of the riverbed, anchor and cast, then start vertically relative to the current, gradually pulling the tackle towards you and stopping. You need to let the bait float above the bottom in the direction of the current, then pull it towards you again and let it float on its own. A zigzag-like line emerges. This wiring speeds up the search for a school of large roach, rudd or perch. When using such wiring, they usually install a float with a base made of balsa wood (it is easier for them to make all sorts of maneuvers, and it also flies well), the load is concentrated in one place, next to the short leash. The float is loaded under the antenna with a pad. A float equipped in this way responds very sensitively to bites.
- Most people fish with long casts, using bait as fry or small pieces of fish meat. Cut the meat into cubes. In this case, two types of float equipment are suitable. First: with the help of a sinker, the float is precisely lowered so that its upper part is on the surface of the water. The release of the float must be done so that the bait on the hook is 3-5 cm from the bottom and moves in accordance with the current. They usually use a main fixed sinker weighing 8-10g and, in addition to it, one or two additional ones weighing 0.5-1g for greater accuracy in loading the float. This type of equipment is no less suitable for catching predatory fish in mid-water. Second rig: the sinker weighs more than the float can lift. The latter can be on the water in a lying state, but after the fish bites and grabs the bait, it must noticeably move and oscillate on the surface. To do this, it must be weighed correctly in depth. Using such equipment, fishing can be easier, and the bait will always be on the bottom even if the depths change. Another rigging option: for loading, you can use a sliding “olive” weighing 10-15g, which needs to be secured with a small lead pellet or a leash snap. While dragging, the pellet will create a muddy path at the bottom level, which will most likely attract the attention of a predator.
- Near the Stavropol-Elista highway there are coastlines clear of reeds. In this place the river is deeper, so the bank is always full of milk miners. Due to the lack of reeds, these places are well suited for fishing with a plug and other float equipment.
Some fishing reports
Good afternoon. Yesterday my godfather went to Manych in Sporny, fishing near the arrow in the area of the canal. The pecking started only around one o'clock, and ended at three. The perch kept biting on a small white spoon. Came across different sizes. Several times I pulled out something heavy, about 500 grams. The ice was about 10 centimeters. The road was good, we got there without any obstacles. There was a ton of people. I haven’t tried to catch a white one, so I can’t say anything about it.

Greetings to all friends! I'll tell you where I caught it. Today I was in the Tuzluki area, or rather on the other side of the Manych lake - “a large fresh lake”. I caught crucian carp weighing 400 grams, and a slightly smaller ram, the size of a palm, weighed hard to say what it was. I caught it at a depth of 70 cm.

Yesterday my matchmaker and I were below the Veselovsky elevator. The hybridos were pecking, tirelessly, it seemed, everything that was in the river was gathered here. True, I lost my temper many times because of the grass. The two of us caught 20 kg, fished from 8 to 15. We caught it with a worm.

Geographical information
The Manych River flows from southeast to northwest. It originates at the confluence of the Kalaus and Vostochny Manych rivers, then flows through the Stavropol Territory, the Republic of Kalmykia and the Rostov Region. Near the settlement of Manychskaya, Bagaevsky district, it flows into the Don River. Traditionally, the geographical border of Europe and Asia runs along the bed of the Manych River.
The largest left tributaries of the river: Bolshoi Yegorlyk, Machok, Dunda, Dzhalga, Yula. The largest right tributaries of the river: Khara-Zukha, Kirasta, Chikalda, Zendzi, Cheprak.
The water in the Manych River is highly mineralized; therefore, surface vegetation is practically undeveloped, and multiple islands of lakes and the banks of reservoirs are covered with grass and forb plant species.
The length of the river from source to mouth is approximately 219 km. The drainage basin area is 35.4 thousand km². Of these, 2.1 thousand km² are occupied by lakes (mostly brackish and saline). The river is fed mainly by snow. Water mineralization is 2-8 g/l.
The Manych basin includes a large number of estuaries, lakes, rivers, and reservoirs within the Kuma-Manych depression.
On the Manych River from source to mouth there is Lake Lysyy Liman, a reservoir. Manych, Lake Manych, Lake Manych-Gudilo, Veselovskoye Reservoir, Shakhaevsky Estuary, Zapadensky Estuary and Ust-Manych Reservoir.
The chemical composition of the water changes from hydrocarbonate-sulfate-calcium and sulfate-sodium in the west to sodium chloride in the east. Water mineralization increases from west to east, with a maximum value of 17-30 g/l. High mineralization is characteristic of the entire river, with the exception of small desalinated areas formed by tributaries. A decrease in the level of mineralization of the river occurred after the supply of water from the Kuban River in 1948 through the Nevinnomyssk Canal and further along the Bolshoy Yegorlyk River.
