Reservoirs of the Stavropol Territory
There are all conditions for fishing in Stavropol. Fishing in the city is very developed: there are many rivers and reservoirs, both wild and well-maintained especially for guests. Among the rivers, the Kuban, Kuma, Terek, Kalaus, Podkumok, and Egorlyk stand out. Reservoirs include Yegorlykskoye, Otkaznenny, Chogayskoye, Novotroitskoye, Proletarskoye. Here the hunt is for perch, catfish, gudgeon, carp, pike perch, pike, bream, bleak, silver carp, roach and barbel. It is worth noting the enormous popularity of catfish among local fishermen and guests. In July and August you can catch a fairly large predator: some individuals reach 50 kg in weight.
In itself, fishing in Stavropol is determined by the Kuban River. More than 100 species of fish live here: carp, pike perch, catfish, bream, goby, crucian carp, rudd, silver carp, perch and many others. This quiet place will allow you not only to enjoy fish, but also to have a great rest with the whole family or alone. This is facilitated by a pleasant, warm climate and fairly well-groomed shores. The abundant bite will please both professionals and beginners: it is difficult to return from Kuban empty-handed. The fish actively reproduce here and are happily caught using almost any bait. There is also winter fishing; the river almost never freezes, but the fish bite is weaker, especially during cold periods. The Terek is also rich in fish; carp, catfish, trout, salmon, and pike perch await those who like to sit with a fishing rod. You can fish here almost all year round: the Terek almost never freezes, and only in the most severe frosts can banks appear. Spring and autumn are considered good times, when the fish wakes up from hibernation and when it is about to go back into it. Catfish lovers should visit Terek in August and grab some live bait.
Interesting fish can be caught in the Yegorlyk River: channel catfish, descending from American larvae, and Kuban long-whiskered gudgeon are found here.
Fans of carp, crucian carp and perch can try their luck at the Kazinka pond near the village of the same name. For crucian carp and crucian carp, it is better to go to the Lice Pond not far from the city. Some scientists believe that the last reservoir is already old: they give it up to a million years. A huge amount of fish is observed in the Yegorlyk Reservoir: bream, catfish, perch, crucian carp, silver carp, pike perch. The young generation is released here in the spring, and therefore there are usually no problems with the catch. But fishing is only possible with a license.
“Bychatnik” and “Korvoe” are ready to offer quite a lot of fish: they have catfish, pike, perch, chub, pike perch, carp, crucian carp, bleak, and bream at their disposal. The last two places are an excellent vacation spot for families and groups: here you can stay at recreation centers, rent a house on the shore, pitch a tent, find boat stations and shops with fishing supplies.
Map of fishing spots
Near the village of Terek, a small canal of the same name flows. It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to swim here by boat, but everyone can do great fishing from the shore. It will be enough just to select the appropriate gear and prepare in advance. Basically, fishermen go to a reservoir with one goal - to catch a trophy pike perch, and most succeed.
The Kuma River, which is small in size and located near Arkhipovsky, very often attracts a large number of local fishermen. But it’s unlikely that anyone will be able to meet locals on the shore, since almost everyone fishes from a boat. The main purpose for which fishermen come for ships is pike perch. There are a lot of this magnificent predator in the reservoir, but you need to find the right approach to it.
The Nevinnomyssk Canal is a rather interesting artificial reservoir, to the shores of which local and visiting fishermen go. As a rule, local fishermen are equipped with bottom rods, but visitors fish with spinning rods. In any case, the catches include catfish of different sizes. Catching a trophy specimen is a very rare occurrence here, but there are plenty of medium-sized fish.
Fishing spots
On the territory of the Stavropol Territory there are a large number of places intended for fishing:
Bald Estuary
The reservoir is located on the border between Stavropol and Kalmykia. A common type of fish is pike, as well as perch, pike perch, carp, and kras.
The most popular equipment is considered to be a shaker and a large twister. The best option is topwater bait such as crankbaits or poppers.
Yegorlykskoye Reservoir
Located in Shpakovsky district. A special feature of the reservoir is running water, which is changed up to 15 times a year. The most popular are pike perch, carp, silver carp, bream, and grass carp. Perch, silver crucian carp, ram and catfish are often found.
Fishing from the shore and from a boat is permitted in this area. Thanks to this, it is possible to catch pike perch and perch, which live at a depth of 10–12 meters.
The most popular types of tackle are spinning, float and bottom fishing rods. I consider rotating and oscillating spoons to be effective baits. Most often, twisters and vibrating tails are used as equipment.
Pravoegorlyksky Canal
The reservoir is located on the territory of the Donskoy village and the town of Izobilny. The canal is characterized by the presence of clear water, which causes a large flow of fishermen.
Commonly encountered fish species are:
- Zander. Caught with live bait. It lives at a depth of 10–15 meters. The probability of catching increases in the dark and in sunny weather.
- Ram. Caught on grains of wheat and corn. Flour using aromatic oil works well as bait. This type of fish is characterized by activity and a powerful bite.
Fishermen who want not only to make a successful catch, but also to have a good rest, should visit recreation centers with a wide variety.

Egorlyk is a fairly large lake, which is located near the Novotroitsk reservoir. This is a truly unique body of water, on the banks of which you can meet a large number of fishermen. Despite the fact that the species composition in the lake is relatively poor, rare fish are present here. Also, the abundance of fishermen on the banks of the reservoir is facilitated by the wonderful and untouched nature in the surrounding area.
Most of the catches of local fishermen include the Kuban long-whiskered gudgeon, which is eaten quite rarely, but almost no one catches it anywhere. The main target for which local and visiting anglers set sail is the unique and amazing channel catfish. This fish cannot be caught in almost any reservoir throughout the country.
The small Kazinka River, which is located near the settlement of the same name, often gathers a large number of local fishermen in its water area. Those who like to fish for predators, equipped with a boat or any other floating device, go to the pond in search of perch. Mostly, the catches of local fishermen include medium-sized fish, but sometimes trophy specimens are also found.
Fans of fishing with float or feeder gear will also find something for themselves here. Crucian carp and carp are often found in the reservoir. You just need to take care of the quality of the gear in advance, because sometimes the size of the fish here is quite impressive, but for this you will need to prepare suitable bait and select the appropriate bait.
The best free reservoirs
Big Stavropol Canal
At one time, the canal was built not for fish farming, but to provide agriculture with water, or rather irrigation. Well, where there is water, there is fish. Nowadays, the canal is becoming increasingly popular among fishermen. The canal is home to a wide variety of fish, both peaceful and predatory, which attracts fishing enthusiasts.
You can really catch it here:
- Soma.
- Perch.
- Podleschika.
- Pike.
- Pike perch.
Getting to the canal, which originates in the Circassian reservoir, is not at all difficult. The canal passes through Kursavka, after which it divides into two branches, eastern and western. The eastern component is sent to Budennovsk, and the western component is sent to Nevinnomyssk. Free fishing is allowed here at any time of the year, except for the spawning season.
Kochubeevsky district
This area has unique fishing conditions. Places with moderate currents are considered the most promising. Places in the water area where the current is minimal attract fish such as trout. Here it is not a problem to catch crucian carp, rudd or white bream.
Some, especially avid fishermen, have come across bream weighing up to 4 kilograms. Despite the fact that fishing here is free, you are still allowed to catch fish only with one hook and exclusively from the shore. At the same time, there is a catch norm - no more than 5 kilograms per person. You will also have to pay a fine if you are fishing from a boat.
Pravoegorlyksky Canal
This channel is distinguished by fairly clear and clean water, which cannot but interest fishing enthusiasts. The most numerous fish in this reservoir are considered to be pike perch and ram. Pike perch will have to be caught at a depth of 10 to 15 meters. In good, sunny weather, it is possible to catch large pike perch. This is especially promising in the dark. Rams here are caught using corn or wheat, and flour and aromatic substances are added to the bait. The ram bites quickly and aggressively. This reservoir is not suitable for those who are focused on a greater availability of fish species. In the Stavropol Territory, it is possible to find reservoirs where a larger number of fish species are found.

Fishing here is allowed throughout the year and is free. Fishing conditions allow the use of a watercraft, but you can also fish from the shore. Here you can find large perches and pike-perch, which are caught from a depth of 12 meters or more. As a rule, predatory fish are caught using artificial baits such as wobblers and twisters, as well as other, especially edible rubber.
