This wonderful innovation came to Russia from Italy. The second name of the equipment is sbirulino. The Sbirulino float makes it possible to throw baits with the lightest weight as far as possible. This tackle allows you to catch almost any fish: both peaceful and predatory.
Many fishing enthusiasts prefer homemade bombards to purchased ones.
Description and characteristics
A special type of float is called a bombard. Fishing using it is distinguished as a separate type of fishing, since it requires a certain level of equipment.
There are 3 types of sbirulino:
- floating – used for fishing in shallow water;
- slow-sinking – allows you to fish at the average depth of the reservoir;
- fast-sinking – designed for fishing on the bottom.

Bombard types
There are two types of bombards, which differ in shape:
- spherical;
- cigar-shaped.
The first form of bombard is used on lakes and reservoirs where there is no current or if it is weak. The second type is used for reservoirs with high currents or average buoyancy.
Bombards are also:
- Universal.
- Floating.
The disadvantage of the above gear is the response to bad weather. On a windy day they will be blown away, but this disadvantage can be corrected if the fisherman uses bait made of animal origin.
In addition, they are:
- sinking, such devices are used in bad weather and for fishing at great depths; they can be used for smooth fishing;
There is no need to use this type if fishing is carried out with a floating bait, as they sink.
- neutral, which allow you to keep the bait at the required distance.

In order for the bombard to function adequately, after making it at home, you should follow some simple rules that will make the use of this equipment as productive as possible:
- the load should be selected so that the float sinks into the reservoir only a quarter of its length. Thanks to this, it will not be completely immersed in water when wiring;
- the mass of the bombard and its dimensions must be mutually proportional;
- It is advisable to attach a tail to it, which will give it greater stability and also make control easier when wiring;
- Even pieces of thin transparent plastic, which is used when packaging various items, are suitable for plumage;
- when using additional plumage, you should be more careful when storing and transporting this equipment;
- Sbirulino is painted in bright shades, allowing it not to be lost from sight even in the evening or at significant distances.
Using high-quality baits and proper equipment, you can safely go on any fishing trip. All these components can help you catch a considerable amount of various fish of any size, which will definitely please you and all your loved ones.
Making a bombard with your own hands
As already mentioned at the beginning, some fishermen believe that a homemade bombard is better than a factory one. The main reason is that it takes little time to make and the cost of consumables is quite low. Some of them are easier to make, while others are more difficult, for example, the sinking one. Despite this, each of them is worth attention, since it has subtleties of manufacture. In order to create sbirulino with your own hands, you need to select the basic materials from which the float will be made:
- Large float.
- Styrofoam.
- Medical syringe.
Production of shipment
To make a load, you need to wind brass wire in several layers onto a metal pin, the diameter of which is equal to the diameter of the antenna. (I used a 4mm drill shank for this). Then remove the weight from the drill and place it on the end of the antenna.
Model preparation
Jaxon bombard you need to pull out the original antenna (it is secured with a drop of glue), drill a hole with a Ø 4 mm drill, and insert our antenna there - a piece of anti-twist.
Mold making
First, briefly about the essence of the operation . An epoxy compound is placed in one half of the pipe. The model (factory bombard) is pressed into it. Then the second half of the pipe is filled with epoxy, which is pressed against the first half. After hardening, the halves of the pipes are separated, the model is removed, and we have two half-forms in our hands, each of which has a recess - an exact impression of the model.
Now in detail . The inner surface of the half pipes is cleaned. In order for the epoxy mixture to bond more firmly to the metal, it is advisable to make marks on the cleaned surface with a drill. I didn't do this at first, so part of the hardened mold broke off from the base. I had to glue it with superglue.
The epoxy mixture is prepared according to the instructions. After heating, it becomes plastic and sticky. The mixture is placed in half of the pipe. Before pressing the model, you need to coat it with some kind of oil so that it does not stick to the epoxy. (I used chemically inert silicone oil). The main thing you need to pay attention to when pressing the model is that it is immersed exactly halfway, and that the mixture adheres to it over the entire area, including the surface of the antenna.
The mixture in the first half-pipe should be allowed to harden for about 2 hours. After this, the second part of the mixture is prepared and placed in the other half of the pipe. Then both half-pipes are connected (forming a whole pipe) and tightened with clamps. Excess epoxy mixture is squeezed into the joint of the half pipes. It needs to be cut off and thrown away. It takes about a day for the composition to completely harden.
