Fishing on the Volga in Nizhny Novgorod

The Volga is the largest river in Europe. It originates on the Valdai Hills and flows into the Caspian Sea. The total length of the river is 3500 kilometers. More than 70 species of fish live in the Volga. In Nizhny Novgorod, fishermen note several fishing spots on the Volga.

"Strelka", Meshcherskoye Lake microdistrict

A section of the Volga, located within the city. In winter, during periods of severe frosts, it is possible to walk along the trail near the shopping center. You can get to the shopping center by minibus 138. You can also get there from the Bor bridge. After the bridge, turn right and drive about 100 meters. Further - to the right. Follow the dirt road to a fork and turn right again. Behind the parking area is the Volga. There are many anglers on this section of the river both in summer and winter. Here it is:

  • perch,
  • zander,
  • silver bream,
  • pike,
  • bream,
  • bersh,
  • sopa,
  • roach,
  • asp,
  • ruff,
  • som,
  • burbot,
  • ide.

In general, fishing spots here can be divided into three areas:

  • The fairway is to the right of the islands. The current is quite strong, the depth is average (up to 8 meters). But you can’t fish on the fairway in the summer (you can in the winter). The bottom here is sandy.
  • Bor pits. They were formed as a result of the construction of local bridges and dams (when sand was taken from here for construction needs). The pits are located to the left of the islands. There are quite deep places (up to 12 meters). Unlike the fairway, here it’s the other way around: fishing is prohibited in winter, but allowed in summer. The current near the pit is relatively weak.
  • River around the islands. There are 6 islands here, and several more small ones have recently appeared. The bottom is varied: there are muddy pits and sandy shallows. In winter, local fishermen like to use jigs to catch perches (usually medium-sized perches; large ones can be found, but rarely).

Features of fishing on Strelka

The place is perfect for anglers who prefer a variety of fishing. In one day you can catch both perch with roach and pike perch with silver bream here.

They fish on Strelka near the pits, usually for sprat. You regularly come across good specimens of bersh and pike perch.

In winter, good perches are pulled out using a balancer and a jig. Large pike perch weighing 3-4 kilograms are sometimes caught on the same balancer.

Pulling fishing is popular. This way you can catch a large bream.

Bay near the cable car

The place is located not far from the Rowing Canal. To get here, you need to go along the Grebnoy Canal Embankment street to the Robinson restaurant, then turn towards the island. Behind the Frigate yacht club there is a right turn onto a dirt road. Along it you can get to the river bay.

The bay's water area is small, about a kilometer long and three hundred meters wide. They catch here mainly pike.

Depth - about 6 meters. They fish with spinning rods using wobblers and spoons. Pike are usually found of medium size, but large specimens are also found. Locals love this bay, often coming here after work and on weekends.

Borsky Bridge

The place is located on the right bank of the Volga.

To get here, you need to take a bus to the turn to Proletarskaya Street, cross the road and walk along the garages. There is a stream near the vacant lot, and if you move along the latter, you can get to the right place. By the way, it's not that easy to get through. You need to make your way through tall grass and bushes.

People here fish, as a rule, for pike perch. Sometimes you come across very large trophy specimens - up to 10 kilograms. And also in this section of the river you can catch pike, perch, catfish, bersh, bream, bleak, roach, ruffe, and burbot. In summer, an asp is occasionally seen.

The shore here is sandy, but there are a lot of stones. Depth - up to 10 meters. They are caught with a spinning rod on a jig (10-25 grams). The bottom is very rocky, so line breaks often occur.
