Bashkortostan is located between two large regions - the Urals and the Volga region. Its area is 143.6 km2. It borders with the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Orenburg regions, Perm Territory, Udmurtia and Tatarstan. The relief here is varied. The West is flat, because this part is located in the southeast of the East European Platform. The center and east are covered by the hills and mountains of the southern Urals.
