Spinning rods Pontoon 21 (Ponton 21)

Features of spinning rods

The Pontoon 21 spinning rod is a high-tech product that, before appearing on the market, goes through a complex technological cycle, from engineering and design development to control testing of pre-production samples. As a result, the angler receives a cool and well-thought-out tool that fully corresponds to the declared characteristics.

Pontoon 21 spinning rods are developed by a whole team of designers and designers who are well versed in fishing. At the same time, world-famous professional spinning rodists are involved in the process, who not only advise the company’s engineers, but also take an active part in testing the rods.

Important! The company cooperates not only with individual fishermen, but also with famous manufacturers in Japan and the USA.

Each model is thoroughly thought out. It has its own priority fishing direction and specific purpose. Therefore, spinning rods always justify the money spent on them, allowing you to fish in given conditions with certain baits and methods.

Among the design features of the Ponton 21 spinning rods, the following can be noted:

  • The blank is made of graphite materials with a high elastic modulus.
  • O-rings and fittings are supplied exclusively by Fuji.
  • The handle is made of high purity cork.

All rods are supplied in high-quality fabric covers. There are rulers that come complete with hard cases.

In general, Pontoon 21 spinning rods can be safely attributed to the premium segment and can be placed on a par with famous American and Japanese companies. In terms of quality and performance indicators, Ponton rods are almost as good as them, and the price is more acceptable for most domestic fishermen and fully justifies the money spent on them.

Advantages and disadvantages

Characterizing Pontoon 21 spinning products in general, the following advantages can be noted:

  1. Choice. This family offers fishing rods of different lengths, materials, lightness, compactness and colors. Thanks to this, any angler will be able to find something he likes.
  2. Availability. It is difficult to find a retail outlet with fishing products where spinning rods of this brand are presented.
  3. Justification of pricing policy. Of course, price is a subjective matter. Some people can afford a rod that costs 10 thousand rubles, but for others it is an exorbitant waste of money. But if we proceed from the price-quality ratio, then Pontoon 21 clearly demonstrates how you can purchase a quality product relatively inexpensively.
  4. Catchability. Most users note the excellent performance of spinning rods.

Flaws:

  1. Again, the price. Still, it cannot be classified as cheap gear.
  2. Fishing qualities. What suits one may disappoint another. Therefore, along with positive ones, you can also find negative reviews about the product.

Features of Pontun spinning rods can be distinguished depending on the series:

  1. Thus, Gancho rods are designed for twitch fishing, that is, jerking movements with short pauses. Thanks to the special connection, the movements of the spinning rod are instantly transmitted to the bait.
  2. The GAD Chaser series is suitable for both beginners and experienced fishermen. And all thanks to the fact that it can be equipped with any type of wobblers. The advantage of this series of rods is their casting range.
  3. Seven and Half (Seven and a half). The name characterizes the length of all rods in the series in feet. Having different specializations, they are united by one important property - increased strength, which will withstand the attack of the most unexpected trophy.

Review of the best episodes

Each rod developed by Pontoon 21 has its own purpose. The manufacturer does not manufacture products “just to have it.” The range and content of each series are well thought out and selected taking into account the recommendations of professional fishermen. Below we will consider the main lines of spinning rods that are popular and in high demand in the domestic market.

Psychogun

The Psychogun series of spinning rods was specially designed for jig fishing. The main task of the manufacturer was to realize all the basic requirements of anglers for a fishing rod for this type of fishing, which the Pontoon 21 successfully coped with.

A distinctive feature of the Psychogan spinning rod is maximum sensitivity and uniform distribution of elasticity along the entire length of the blank. The presented “rods” are throwable, powerful and unpretentious. Fits comfortably in the hand.

Pontoon 21 Psychogan

The design features of Pontoon 21 Psychogan are as follows:

  • The blank is made from ultra-high modulus graphite from Toray.
  • K and KR series SiC insert rings from Fuji.
  • Fuji VSS and ACS reel seat.
  • The handle is made from high purity cork.

The Pontoon 21 Psychogun line includes 19 spinning and 11 casting models, differing in length, test and purpose.

Review of the spinning rod Pontoon21 Psychogun 277 10.5-32 or “Psycho”, aka “Mad Barrel”

Last winter I set out to buy myself a spinning rod for jigging. For a long time and persistently I dug through the forums, asked for feedback, asked for help from experts such as A. Shanin, K. Kuzmin, A. Pitertsov and others. Oddly enough, I didn’t take Psychogun into account at all, because the stick only recently hit the market. I watched different CDs Rods, Major Craft, Hearty Rise. I even bought myself a Hearty Rise Boat Jig Force 290, 10-30, I seemed to like it, but...

A friend calls me and says that I can place an order at wholesale prices from one of the largest Russian fishing tackle stores. Of course, I became interested, started studying the price list and then I saw Psycho not for the $300 plus offered on the market, but for $200 with the same tail. Yes, and I have a trait of checking everything myself, somehow, from hearsay, everything usually comes out lumpy, whether it’s fishing or shopping, and therefore... it’s decided! I'm ordering Psycho! The choice fell on 277cm with a test of 10.5-32g. Less than a month has passed since this same Psycho ended up in my hands!

I immediately caught my eye with a bright purple case with a large inscription Psychogun (literally translated as “mad gun” - hence the title of the article) - the glamor just rushes. I:) take out a spinning rod, feeling like something expensive, high-quality, pleasant is in my hands - well, you know what the feeling that happens when you print out something new.:D Assembled, shook - just what you need! Lightweight, just the right amount of rigidity, and even fits like a glove in your hand, super! I looked through it all from the tulip to its “heel” (the back end of the handle) - the assembly is just super, I more than liked everything!

And now about each part separately and in a little more detail:

1) “Heel” - well, I like to call it that:) without any special frills, it has the inscription Pontoon21 Custom Rods (meaning that the spinning rod was assembled by the Pontoon21 company).

2) Handle. Made from high-quality cork, there was not a hint of its destruction during the season. A Fuji VSS reel seat with top fixation is installed. I am a supporter of closed, warm holders, which also attracted me to Psyche.

3) Pontoon did not miss such a small thing as a bait ring. Convenient, pleasant.

4) Rings. The spinning rod has the latest generation Fuji “K” series guide rings, which are made in the form of a delta-shaped steel frame with an SIC insert. It is due to this design that tangling of the fishing line or cord behind the bow when casting is almost completely eliminated. The annoying hassle of winding the line around the tip while changing bait is finally over. The arrangement of rings on all rods in the series is carried out according to the New Concept type (which has long been no longer New, of course :D)

5) Marks are placed at the joint of the rod so as not to look at the rings when joining the knees. For me, it's such a useless thing. Aiming at the rings is much more convenient and easier.

6) The tulip is also anti-overwhelm with wide frames. Everything is fine here.

Now a little about the structure. There is no smell of extra fast here, the spinning rod has a fast action, which the manufacturer honestly stated. I really like the way the form works. It has a soft top that acts as a nod and those who like visual control (myself included) will be pleased with this feature. The middle part of the form is more rigid, but nevertheless it is also included in the work. But the butt is very clubby and practically does not bend. Thus, the spinning rod starts working approximately from the first ring, which is normal with such a blank length. Perhaps it is precisely because of this form that I see all the bites and easily even catch pike perch at a throw of 60-70 meters. Everything is given by a hard middle part and a very hard butt. And this is what the spinning rod looks like under load:

1) This is what the working part of the tip looks like under load (it gives good visual control).

2) And this is what the spinning rod looks like when the blank is fully loaded and you can clearly see how it turns on from the input ring.

As for sensitivity, everything is very good here. But I’ll make a reservation that it depends on many conditions and can vary, especially sensory input in the hand. But in general, then in my hand I begin to hear already 10g with bait, if the bottom is not muddy, of course, and there is no strong side wind. Along the top you can track the wiring from 8g with bait. The maximum weight that I set was 30g with a 3-inch fat twister, and against the current, the spinning rod managed. I would probably limit the power cast to 26 grams, it’s already a bit scary to invest, but if without fanaticism, then everything is fine.

Its range suits me, I can’t say how far I throw, since I have nothing to compare it with - this is the first shore jig stick. But, based on the rotation of the coil, I roughly estimated that 10-12 g fly to a distance of about 60 m, and 20-22 to 70-75 meters, which for me is very good. I don’t force you to accept the numbers as truth, because... with such a calculation, the error is large and this is only approximately... Throwing Psycho is easy, the form itself shoots weights from 10 g to 50 meters, but if you need the maximum, then it won’t hurt to invest in it.

The most convenient way to fish with a spinning rod of this length is, of course, from the shore, although you can also do it from a boat; I did just that all last season. It’s only now that I’m saving up for a separate stick for boat jigs.

The stick knits fish well, although of course it’s better if it’s 500g and above; I had only 2 failures from it over the summer, and even those were my fault. Of the trophies lured by it, I can mention a perch weighing 510g, a pike weighing 5.13kg, and a carp weighing 2.02kg.

The spinning rod weighs 175g (I weighed it myself on an electronic scale). With up to 20lb of power it's a good weight. The power of the stick was enough to lift a pike up to 2 kg up a steep bank, if such a maneuver was required, and Psycho never failed!

So, Pontoon21 Psychogun in the test 10.5-32g and length 277cm turned out to be very successful in terms of jig fishing from the shore, although it is just as comfortable to fish with it from a boat, especially a large one. I got what I wanted, I hope you will also be interested in my review of this spinning rod! Good luck and see you next reviews :)
