It seems that spring has already passed, but for some reason I keep returning and returning to spring fishing in the Lower Volga. I had as many as 3 of them, thanks to early spring.

Already at the beginning of March, the ice had completely disappeared on the Akhtuba River near the city of Kapustin Yar, which meant it was possible to start fishing in open water. If it’s possible, then why not fish, I decided, and bought a ticket to Volgograd on the low-cost airline Pobeda.

Everything would be fine, but I was slightly taken aback by the baggage conditions. Carrying a spinning rod in a tube is like buying a new one. But there was no desire to feed Aeroflot’s daughter. It's not that I don't like children. On the contrary, I love her very much, I just don’t like to pamper.

There is only one way out - take a compact four-part or five-part travel spinning rod. To be honest, I’m a little skeptical about such spinning rods. One thing I did was take a compact five-piece to fish with spoons. Jig is a completely different matter. Sometimes a few seconds like this are enough, after many hours of no bite, to understand that the fishing has taken place.

Our fishing was stingy with fish; in the end I didn’t catch a single pike perch, but there were several perches and a couple of good pure pike perch bites. Dmitry caught another pike perch. A couple of guys who came with us caught only one zander between them.
