Catching pike with spinners and spoons. Video Issue No. 31

Form

Fishing with spinners requires you to have several forms in your arsenal, and spinning rods must have different lengths and casting indicators.

In the spring, to catch any predator, delicate tackle, small baits and an appropriate rod are used. The most successful will be a spinning rod with a test of 2-13 , with a length from 2 m to 2.2 m . In summer, heavier baits are used, which means the test on the form should be different. Ideally for summer fishing, a rod up to 2.4 m with a weight of up to 18 g is suitable. In autumn, the predator is much more aggressive, so the components of the tackle should be more rigid. In order for the autumn spinner for pike to accurately hit the right place and the rod should be chosen accordingly, a length of 2-2.4 m will be an excellent choice for both fishing from the shore and from a boat, but the test indicators should be in the range of 5-7 g and up to 25-30 years

Coil

It is chosen based on the form, in the spring an option with a spool size of 1000 is enough, in the summer they use options with 2000, but in the fall you can put 2500-3000.

The basis

The best option for catching pike with a spinner is a braided cord; its thickness in most cases depends on the test parameters of the form:

  • in spring, thinner options are used, no more than 0.1 mm in diameter ;
  • in summer such a base will not be enough, but 0.12-0.14 will be enough;
  • For autumn fishing, it is worth equipping with a cord up to 0.18 mm.

pike

Using a monk is also acceptable, but the diameter will be thicker:

  • in spring from 0.18 mm;
  • in summer from 0.22 mm;
  • in autumn not less than 0.26 mm.

In this case, the breaking indicators for both bases will be approximately the same.

It is always advisable to install leashes for equipment; they will allow you to preserve the equipment when hooked.

What is special about this bait?

The whole secret lies in the fact that both the turntable and the oscillator, when inserted, are capable of creating the strongest vibrations. It should also be noted that even a small pinwheel creates quite intense vibrations, which the predator can hear very well.

This, in turn, allows you to fish throughout the season, while it is equally successfully caught on both front- and rear-loaded spinners.

Front-circular ones make it possible to perfectly control the bottom, as well as use jig fishing methods. This type of bait works great in late autumn and even in winter, provided that the pond does not freeze in the cold season.

In spring and summer, rear-loaded ones work great; they allow you to quickly catch a predator when fishing shallow areas or reservoirs. Pike fishing requires the fisherman to have certain knowledge, tricks, secrets and skills.

Homemade rotating spoon

Many craftsmen make spinners themselves without any problems, and they are often no less catchy than factory ones. Making a lure for pike with your own hands is not difficult, the main thing is to have the necessary materials and tools, as well as be patient.

First of all, you should prepare the materials, you will need the following:

  • sheet copper and brass for petals;
  • steel wire with a thickness of 0.6 mm;
  • beads;
  • a piece of lead;
  • threads, clamps, tees;
  • heat shrink;
  • necessary tool.

The manufacturing process goes like this:

  • The first step is to make the petals; they are cut from pre-prepared sheets. Then, using a small hammer, give the desired shape. A hole is also made in the petal for attaching it to the body of the spoon.
  • The body of the spinner is made from wire, bent at one end in the form of a fastener, and the petal is attached here. On the other side, a loop is bent, onto which the tee is placed.
  • For weight, you can wind a wire around the body or attach a lead weight to the top.

Additionally, the tee is equipped with lurex or multi-colored threads, this will help attract the attention of the predator additionally .

At this point, the homemade spinner spoon is ready, you can begin training and fishing in the specified water areas.

Fishing for pike on spinners

Turntables are characterized by a completely unique game when retrieved. Models of this type of spinner consist of a petal rotating along an axis. This petal rotates under the influence of water pressure.

Today there are many spinners that effectively attract different types of fish. Pike bite on most of them, although there are special rotating spoons designed specifically for catching pike.

You can get acquainted with special pike spinners and other baits at various online stores and websites.

An equally effective way to catch pike with a spinning rod is twitching - fishing with wobblers. Read more about choosing these lures in the article wobblers for pike, where you will find many useful tips, photographs and ratings of the best wobblers.

Useful tips

In order to always have a catch, as well as regularly catch trophy varieties of pike, you need to know and apply some secrets and tips from more experienced fishermen. The following recommendations will definitely help:

  • Bluefox turntables for pike should be used during periods of high activity of a predator; their acoustic features can frighten off a passive one;
  • for still water it is better to use spinners with round petals, but in currents it is more effective to fish with spinners with petals in the form of willow leaves;
  • to increase catchability, it is recommended to throw spinners onto the pike so that when they touch the water, they create a strong splash;
  • having 1-2 even the best rated spinners is not enough; your arsenal should have at least 5-8 options for spinners of this type;
  • for a good catch, you should not constantly use the same wiring; experiments for spinning anglers are the key to successful fishing;
  • You shouldn’t save money when collecting gear; catchy spinners for pike are not the key to success. strong fishing lines and leashes will help you get even a trophy version without any problems;
  • You shouldn’t buy very cheap bait options; it’s better to buy less, but from a trusted manufacturer.

Many people believe that you need to learn from inexpensive options for gear and bait, but we cannot agree with this. Complete control over the tackle can only be achieved by using high-quality components.

Pike spinners are one of the best baits; with their help, fishing is easy. Even a beginner will be able to bait and spot a predator without any problems.

The most catchy spinners TOP 10

Date: July 16, 2021 | 850

I am doing a series of articles about my personal ratings of spinning lures, my subjective TOPs. And now the turn has come to such types of bait as rotating spoons and spinners . Of course, I do not pretend that my TOP is a set of the absolutely best, most catchy spinners. But this is precisely a snapshot of my experience, conclusions drawn on the basis of my personal practice. To some, this TOP will seem very conservative, while others, perhaps, will discover working baits for themselves. This is what we are counting on.

It so happened that after analyzing the results of all the spinners that were and are in my arsenal, this TOP 10 of the best spinners included spinners from only two manufacturers. These are spinners from the French company Mepps and handicraft ultralight spinners from Maniacs.

My TOP 10 turntables

With all the advantages of Blue Fox Vibrax, Smith Niakis spinners, Pontoon 21 spinners and others, it was with Mepps and Maniacs that I caught more, and in the end I caught more. So, this turns out to be TOP for two. Blue Foxes, in my practice, caught and caught regularly, but never clearly beat the Mepps. Smith turntables are very expensive. Pontunovsky ones are also noticeably more expensive than Mepps ones. Despite the general accuracy of the parts and assembly, I did not find any advantages in terms of catchability. And as for the maniacs, they simply do not have comparable competitors in the ultralight segment. The same small numbers of the Mepps, presented in this TOP, are much inferior to the maniacs.

Well, let's start announcing the names of the best spinners.

Mepps Longue No. 2

Spinner Mepps Longue No. 2

Mepps Longue No. 2 was not just one of the best spinners over several seasons. This spoon became, for me, the most catchy bait in general, surpassing all the variety of silicone baits and wobblers. This says a lot. No wonder I'm given. I put the spinner on top and include it in this TOP. If I had to choose only one turntable, TOP-1, it would be Mepps Longue No. 2.

This spinner showed itself perfectly both in the river, on the current, and in the still water of lakes, bays, and oxbow lakes. Of course, the first and most popular catch on Mepps Longue No. 2 was the medium pike. But, I came across both perch and asp. There were isolated bites of chub, pike perch, and catfish.

This spoon is good in all color options. And “gold”, and “copper”, and “black” are caught perfectly. But it was “silver” that was the best and most catchy color option.

Oh, I didn’t include Longue No. 3 in this TOP. This spoon also catches pike and perch well. But, personally in my practice, I could not find its advantages over the second number.

Mepps Black Fury №4

Spinner Mepps Black Fury No. 4

If I need to choose a fairly large persistent spinner for catching pike in the bottom layers of oxbow lakes and river bays, then I choose the Mepps Black Fury No. 4 spinner. Its medium-width petal, in my opinion, is optimal for slow tracking on the verge of stalling. In places without current, or where it is minimal, this geometry is more justified.

As for the colors, the color of the dots on the black background of the Black Fury petal is not so critical. Yellow dots, bright green dots, and red dots performed well.

Mepps Aglia №2 Fluo

When fishing for perch and chubs on small rivers, when fishing for perch in bays and lakes, the Mepps Aglia spinner showed itself very well. Exactly in size 2 and in white color phosphoric Fluo.

Mepps Comet No. 2

Mepps Comet No. 2 spinner

One of my favorite spinners in the summer, when fishing on flat small and medium-sized rivers, was Mepps Comet No. 2. The best color was “gold” with red dots. But the “silver” one with red dots also fired.

A very wide variety of fish species pecked at this turntable in the river. Perch regularly jumped out, pike, chubs, ides, and asps were caught.

Mepps Comet No. 1

The smaller version, Mepps Comet No. 1, also in gold and red, also performed very well. It’s just that I started fishing with this spoon in the spring. And only with the onset of mature summer, this spinner gave way to a deuce.

In addition to the results of the larger version, Mepps Comet No. 1, this spinner was also noted for catching sabrefish during its spring run. Also, this, in fact, light spinner was perfectly suited to the taste of both the lenok and the large pied in the Primorsky rivers.

Mepps Longue №00

Ultralight spinner Mepps Longue No. 00 - showed excellent performance in catching medium-sized perch, chub, and tongue. Also, this lure is excellent for catching any peaceful white fish: roach, rudd, even large perch, seabill, etc. This micro-spinner was also to the taste of the pestle in the Far Eastern streams and rivers.

The gold version worked best.

Mepps Aglia №00

Another micro-spinner from Mepps in my TOP. Essentially, this is a turntable with the same capabilities as the previous one. Also, a huge species composition of the catch. It showed itself very well when fishing in fast streams, moving across and upstream.

Both “silver” and “gold” have proven themselves well.

Maniac Polyglot 5g

Maniac Polyglot

Maniac Polyglot weighing 5g is a kind of boundary between Maniac’s ultralight spinners and the world of full-fledged large rotating spinners. The model is very successful. Quite a few perches, pike, and chubs were lured to it in lowland rivers. The spinner has a rather heavy core. In principle, it is proportionally the same as all the spinners of this master. But, given the size of the spoon, it turns out to be something like a weighted Mepps Heavy. Only much more carefully made, with much better balance and immediate inclusion in the work. Perfect assembly, sharpest Japanese tees, fly on the hook. In general - super!

Maniac Polyglot showed herself well in absolutely all colors. Most of all I had the opportunity to fish and catch on tarnished “copper”. But “silver”, “gold”, and “matte black” work well.

Maniac Dogmatika 3g

Maniac Dogmatika

A large, so to speak, version of the Dogmatic spinner. This three-gram spoon showed itself very well on chubs, tongues, and perches of lowland small rivers. It also caught small squints, foals, and rudd. In general, the spinner is an all-rounder. Fishing with this spinner model in the streams of the Far East left a great impression. Instant winding, stable rotation when moving at any angle to a fast current! Both lenkas and pieds are consistently in the catch.

Maniac Rebus 2.1g

Ultralight spinner from Maniac, weighing 2.1g. The diamond-shaped petal, at first, alarmed me with its unusualness. But practice has made this spinner my No. 1 favorite among the smallest UL spinners. Rudds, tongues, perches, chubs, parrots and even perch and breams very willingly grabbed this spinner.

For me, the most successful catch was the yellow, brass version of this spinner.

As a bonus to this TOP 10, two more Mepps spinners can be mentioned.

Mepps Longue №1+ Black

The Mepps Longue version in intermediate size No. 1+ and with a black petal showed excellent performance when catching perch after sunset, in the beginning of twilight. And also, for a small asp during the day.

Mepps Heavy Longue No. 1 or No. 1+ Sliver

Well, the weighted version of the Mepps Longue spinner – Heavy, definitely deserves mention. No. 1, No. 1+, and two performed well. This spoon, logically, has a longer range, and is not pushed upward by a strong current. Well, the results are very good.

Perhaps someone was surprised that this rating does not include front-loaded turntables. But I ignored them, only based on dry numbers. With all the advantages of this class of baits, they are, simply, inferior in catches to all the above models. In general, I would consider them somewhere closer to jigs than to spinners, in their classical sense.

Rapala RMS №06-08

A series of unique spinners from Rapala that look more like wobblers than classic spoons. They have a fairly voluminous metal body with a special plastic coating and can be equipped with a single or triple hook.

They perform very well when fishing for pike in the middle and bottom water horizons. The series is also distinguished by a wide range of colors - there are more than 20 options. For pike hunting, models No. 6 (6 cm, 10 g), No. 7 (7 cm, 15 g) and No. 8 (8 cm, 22 g) are primarily suitable.

Review of the most effective spinners for pike

In addition, the blade deflection angle affects the working depth. For example, with a large angle of deflection of the petal, wiring is possible at the very bottom of the reservoir. Models with a smaller angle are designed for wiring at medium depths.

Dimensions of a spinner for pike

The amount and speed of rotation depends on the wiring itself. The higher the speed of the retrieve, the faster the bait rotates. But, as you know, pike does not like fast retrieves and prefers sluggish, easy prey. Before using the turntable, you need to make sure it is working.

The bait should begin to rotate from the first revolutions of the reel.
