Review of Blue Fox turntables and vibrators

The Finnish-American company Blue Fox was founded in 1977 and is a subsidiary of Rapala. Known all over the world for its original lures. Blue Fox spinners are famous for their catchability, versatility and workmanship. Probably every modern spinning player has at least one spinner from this company in his tackle box.

Blue Fox produces spinners, oscillating spoons, silicone baits, spinnerbaits and attractants. But still, rotating spoons are the most popular. In our country, pike, perch, and various types of salmon are caught on Blue Fox spinners.

Appearance and characteristics of Blue Fox spinners

Rotating spoons have an original appearance that cannot be confused with any other spoon.

The first thing that catches your eye is the cone-shaped zinc core with serifs, reminiscent of a bell. When guiding, it creates low-frequency sounds in the water that attract fish even from long distances.

The petal of the spinner has an oblong shape and a logo on the outside. The angle of rotation of the petal relative to the axis is 45 degrees. Thanks to this, the spinner has a high rotation frequency and plays stably both with fast and slow retrieval.

The spinner axis is made of durable stainless steel, and all other elements are made of brass. Therefore, all Blue Fox baits are durable and resistant to corrosion.

The hooks of some models are equipped with feathering. The edge creates additional windage, thanks to which it can be driven downstream.

All Blue Fox products are equipped with high-quality VMC hooks.

Oscillating spoons are in second place in popularity. The company's assortment includes much fewer of them than rotating ones, but they are no less catchy. Blue Fox spoons have proven themselves to be excellent when catching large pike and taimen.

Blue FOX spinners for pike

These models of oscillating spoons are ideal for catching predatory fish, especially pike. They are distinguished by the presence of an engraved surface to achieve greater shine of the bait in the water column. Spinner baits often vibrate during the reeling process due to the oval hole in the place where the ring is attached for the monofilament. In order to catch a trophy toothy fish, it is best to perform a leisurely and measured retrieve. The play of the spinners is uneven and peculiar, which only provokes the predator to attack.

Review of the most popular models

Blue Fox Super Vibrax

The Blue Fox Super Vibrax series is perhaps the most popular in our country. They catch both pike and perch and taimen and grayling with these turntables. It works both in shallows and at depth, as well as on a rocky bottom, when stable play of the bait is especially important. In terms of weight, Super Vibrax is significantly heavier than products from other manufacturers of the same number. Therefore, it has not only range, but also decent depth.

Blue Fox Vibrax Original

The bait with which Blue Fox's fame began. A universal spoon that perfectly catches perch, pike, asp, and salmon. Plays stably even on the slowest wires. Available in 3 main colors - silver, gold and copper. On number 6, taimen are perfectly caught.

Blue Fox Minnow Super Vibrax

Long-range and catchy, especially good for light spinning rods. The model with a red core and a silver petal perfectly catches perch and medium-sized pike. In addition, lenok, grayling, trout, as well as peaceful fish are excellently caught on the Minnow Super Vibrax. Works at any speed - from the smallest to the fastest. Working depth - from 0.5 meters to 1.5 meters. Does not fail when rotating the petal, even with the slowest movements.

Blue Fox Lucius

Blue Fox Lucius is one of the best spinners for catching large pike. Available in both single and double hook versions. There is a red cambric on the hook - this is what the fish aims at when attacking. It has a protective clamp, thanks to which the hooks do not catch hard grass and snags, but it is in such places that pike like to ambush. But the presence of a clamp does not affect the grip at all, so there is no need to worry about hooking.

This spoon works great in waters with medium and fast currents. The most versatile are models weighing 26 grams. Due to its thin and wide shape, the spinner has an original game. With slow wiring with pauses, it begins to “crumble” or go to the side. And when it’s fast, it fluctuates widely. Therefore, different play when retrieving is a big advantage of this spoon. It is best to fish with it in the bottom layers, using uniform fishing with pauses.

Blue Fox Picker

Another pike killer. This spinning spoon is specially designed for pike fishing. In appearance it resembles its main competitor – Mepps Lusox. But Lusox has a big disadvantage - a weak core. After a large number of bites, it may bend, and the performance of the spinner will change not for the better. Piker does not have a similar problem, since there is a protective silicone tube on its axis. When biting, it protects the axis from deformation, so the play of the spinner will always remain stable.

Victoria Leshchenko

I've been working hard in the fishing tackle department for the past six years. I can help you assemble almost any gear.

Ask a Question

The petal has an unusual shape, and the core is not enclosed at all. All weight is on a replaceable weight head. Therefore, you can fish with Piker not only with a uniform retrieve, but also with a stepped retrieve.

Blue Fox Matrixx Spoon

This is a fairly new spinner bait, but it has already gained popularity among anglers. It was originally designed for trolling, but is also perfect for shore fishing. The body of the spinner is made of brass and has an oblong shape. Has good range. Thanks to its protracted shape, the spinner plays sweepingly and performs best when fishing on rivers. Suitable for catching perch, pike and salmon.

Blue Fox Esox

This spoon is ideal for catching pike in still waters or on rivers with weak currents. Thanks to the contrasting colors, red tail and sweeping game, it attracts fish from afar. Her strong point is slow retrieving. On large bodies of water, for example, in reservoirs, trophy perch can easily bite on large baits.

Blue Fox - this famous company is a subsidiary of the legendary Finnish company Rapala. Geographically, Bluefox is located in the USA, although the management company is in Finland. Blue Fox specializes in the production of spinning spoons and flies. Blue Fox's assortment includes spinners, oscillating spoons, artificial flies, and soft silicone lures. Blue Fox Super Vibrax turntables have a well-deserved worldwide reputation and for many years have been almost the main competitors of the “monster” of this market segment - the French Mepps. So let’s look at the most interesting models of turntables from the Blue Fox.

Blue Fox Original Vibrax BF 2

  • Weight: 6g

The Blue Fox company produces world-famous spinners. And, naturally, the flagship and most basic model is the spinner – Blue Fox Original Vibrax. This is a pinwheel with a medium-width petal. Such a petal rotates, deviating from its axis by 45 degrees. The Bluefox petal and core are made of brass. The spoon is assembled on a stainless steel wire axis. The spinner is equipped with VMC tees, of quite good quality.

Particular attention should be paid to the core of the bait. This is a unique development. The outer bell has a faceted brass core inside. When wiring, this design creates additional vibration and beating. Those. oscillations of one frequency are produced by the rotating petal, and the other by the core. This additionally attracts fish. This shaped core is a signature element of most Blue Fox spinners.

The spinner is available in three basic colors, polished metal: silver, gold, copper.

Blue Fox Original Vibrax BF 2 is widely used and is considered one of the most versatile baits, in principle. This spinner works well both in still water and in medium currents. It can be carried out effectively, both very quickly and extremely slowly, on the verge of a tailspin; both in the upper and lower layers of water - depending on the preferences of the fish and the layer of water where it is currently active. The species composition of fish that can be caught with the Blue Fox Vibrax is also impressive. Pike are already successfully biting on this size of spoon, although not always small ones. Also: perch, chub, ide, asp, trout, other salmon. Large peaceful fish, for example, bream, may also covet in the spring.

Blue Fox Original Vibrax BF5

  • Weight: 13g

Blue Fox Original Vibrax BF5 is a famous, fairly large spinner. This is a classic. All the traditional components of a spinner spoon are here: a stainless wire axis; petal on the collar; a bead that facilitates rotation; bumper; core and tee. Only the core is not simple, but in the form of a bell, emitting additional vibrations - a signature element of the “blue fox” spinners.

The Blue Fox Original Vibrax BF5 spinner is quite large. It is used for catching pike in lakes and rivers. In addition, this is one of the most popular baits for catching large salmon, in particular, the kings of taiga rivers - taimen.

This lure needs to be cast as slowly as possible, in the lower layers of water, or at the very bottom. The bait works excellently, catches perfectly and regularly.

Blue Fox Vibrax Hot Pepper BFS2

  • Weight: 6g

Blue Fox Vibrax Hot Pepper BFS2 is another spinner variation based on the original Blue Fox Vibrax model. This series also differs only in color. The main difference is the presence of a series of bright contrasting dots on the petals. The core may or may not be painted.

During the retrieve, the blade of the Blue Fox Vibrax spinner rotates 45 degrees. At the same time, the surface of the petal with dots is blurred and only bright concentric circles are visible. This is especially effective at attracting fish in turbid waters. Also, this coloring works much more effectively on passive fish, provoking it to bite.

The Blue Fox Vibrax Hot Pepper BFS2 spinners are great for catching perch, small pike, chub, and small salmon representatives.

Blue Fox Vibrax Flake BFFL 3

  • Weight: 8g

Based on the classic Blue Fox Original Vibrax, its basic model, the Bluefox company has created many variations, differing only in color and size range. One of these variations is the Blue Fox Vibrax Flake BFFL 3. This is a spinner with a special coloring, and in shape and performance characteristics it is the same Vibrax.

Blue Fox Vibrax Flake BFFL has a colored bell core, red or black, with glitter. The petal is painted in a rolling gradient. The colors appear: silver, gold, copper, turning into black, red or yellow. And three large dots.

These color solutions are especially relevant when fishing for taimen, lenok, large trout and other salmon fish. Of course, both perch and pike will bite on them. Such dark colors are most successfully used in fast rivers, in clear, clean water.

Blue Fox Vibrax Shad BFSD 4

  • Weight: 10g

The Blue Fox Vibrax Shad BFSD 4 is another popular spinner based on the classic Blue Fox Vibrax spinner. A distinctive feature of this model is the color. The core can be painted in some color or not, but a fish-eye pattern must be applied to it. This is the attack point for the predator and it is believed that this technique makes the lure more effective. The petal coloring of the spinners in this series can be classic silver, have a pattern reminiscent of fish scales, stripes like a perch or dots like a trout. Depending on the type of reservoir, it is worth choosing the appropriate color, which would more closely resemble the predator’s natural food.

Blue Fox Vibrax Shad BFSD 4 – number four, a fairly large spoon, designed primarily for pike fishing in lakes, bays, and channels.

Blue Fox Vibrax Glow BFGVS 2

  • Weight: 6g

The difference between this spoon and the basic one is the original stripes applied to the petal, the bell-core painted with fluorescent paints and the presence of a voluminous fly on the tee.

The spinner is presented only in two numbers: 2 and 3.

Blue Fox Vibrax Glow BFGVS 2 is best suited for catching perch and chub in muddy, dark water, because... the variegated color is clearly visible, and the fly has a beneficial effect on the activity of these fish species in relation to spinners.

Blue Fox Shallow Super Vibrax BFSSV3

  • Weight: 8g

Blue Fox Shallow Super Vibrax BFSSV3 is a spinner that is part of the general concept of spinners from the “blue fox”. The spoon is very similar to the classic Blue Fox Vibrax. However, the shape of the petal has undergone changes; it has become somewhat wider and closer to a round shape.

The coloring of Shallow Super Vibrax petals is very wide, from natural metallic shades (copper, silver, gold), to black with bright dots or bright with dark dots.

Such spoons are good, first of all, for fishing in still water. Spoons with wide petals are especially positioned for this purpose. In rivers you can fish with such lures only in places with slow currents, in niches, near strips of algae. You can cast upstream and quickly lead it towards you - that’s also good.

With Blue Fox Shallow Super Vibrax BFSSV3 spinners you can successfully catch a wide variety of fish, predatory and semi-predatory. Perch, pike, salmon, large trout, chub, and ide take well.

Blue Fox Vibrax Deep Super Vibrax BFDSV 3

  • Weight: 8g

The Blue Fox Vibrax Deep Super Vibrax BFDSV 3 spinner is part of the general line of spinners with a bell-shaped core. However, this rotating spoon has a special petal shape, it is teardrop-shaped, somewhat reminiscent in shape of the shields of ancient Russian knights.

The Vibrax Deep Super Vibrax BFDSV3 spinner is most in demand when fishing in rivers and currents. It catches chub, asp and representatives of the salmon family. In a quieter area, pike or perch can bite without any problems. And in the shallows, at dusk, a pike-perch bite may occur, because... fanged – a fan of baits with a narrow profile. This is exactly what Deep Super Vibrax is, because... its petal deviates slightly from the axis of rotation.

Blue Fox Salmon Super Vibrax BFSASV 6

  • Weight: 33g

Blue Fox Salmon Super Vibrax BFSASV6 is a special series of spinners developed by Blue Fox for fishing in fast-moving taiga rivers, for catching large trophy salmon and taimen.

The peculiarity of the spinner is its considerable weight, and only one number is produced - No. 6, with a weight of 33g. Also, the petal of the spoon is narrow, shaped like a “willow leaf”. Such petals, reminiscent of Mepps Longue, are known to be designed for fishing in medium and fast currents. Which, in this case, is what is required.

The colors of the petals of Blue Fox Salmon Super Vibrax BFSASV are the most varied, there is plenty to choose from: from silver-golden to dark and variegated. The colors of the cores are also varied. The tees of the spinners have a red cambric installed, cut and bent at the end - a kind of imitation of a fish tail. Not prevent! And many argue that fish are not colorblind and the red spot in the tail of the spoon will serve as an attack point.

Blue Fox Vibrax Double Spin VDS4

  • Weight: 14g

Blue Fox Vibrax Bullet VB 2

  • Weight: 6g

The petals are very narrow, lentil-shaped. The hole and special bend allow it to fit normally on the axle. The core is in the classic bell shape, like most turntables from this company.

Blue Fox Vibrax Bullet Fly VBF 3

  • Weight: 11g

How to distinguish original Blue Fox spinners from fakes

Blue Fox spinners are so popular that they are counterfeited by all and sundry. Of course, the lion's share of counterfeits are made in China. The price of copies is several times lower than the original and the quality of fakes is very different. For example, you can purchase two spoons that are identical in appearance, but they will play differently. Therefore, it is better to buy an original spoon and be sure that it will catch fish, and not just grass with snags.

But it happens that fakes are sold at the price of the original. You can distinguish one from the other by the following characteristics:

  • The original product must have a serial number stamped on the back of the petal; if it is not there, it is a fake.
  • Unlike the original, the petal of the copy is made of ordinary steel. Such steel is susceptible to corrosion and soon it simply begins to rust.
  • There is no barcode on the counterfeit packaging indicating the country of manufacture and place of assembly.
  • Fake ones do not work well at medium and slow wiring speeds. The petal starts to stick and the game crashes. Original spinners work with any wiring.
  • The declared weight does not correspond to the real one. It may be either more or less than stated. For original spinners, the weight always corresponds to the data on the packaging.

You can ask your question to our author:

There are 2 types of spinners:

— Rotating or popularly a turntable — Oscillating or popularly an oscillator

It is one of the most popular among fishermen. They are made of wire with a hook at the end. A metal plate is attached to one side when lowered into the water.

In water it moves around an axis. Turntables are made from a wire pipe with a metal sheet. This type of bait is used for catching pike, perch, catfish, ide, and asp.

Best used in summer and spring. Spoons are made in various sizes. Common sizes range from 0 to 6 centimeters. Different shapes and colors.

These rigs are a little difficult to cast at first, but this will get better with time. Gear belonging to this category is very high quality, easy to use, effective and inexpensive.

Disadvantages of Blue Fox spinners:

When wiring, the tackle may stick to the petal. During improper use, any part can break, but such cases are very rare.

Approximate prices and reviews of Blue Fox spinners

Prices for products from Blue Fox vary depending on the type of spoon and its characteristics.

So, the simplest and cheapest ones will cost 140 - 160 rubles.

Further, there is a clear trend of increasing prices for these products - from the cheapest to the more expensive, which will cost a fisherman who wants to buy them about 500 rubles.

Blue Fox Super Vibrax No. 3 spinner - worthy of being in everyone's fishing kit

Advantages: Affordable, quite catchy, many colors Disadvantages: The coating wears off, sometimes the petal sticks, it could be cheaper The Blue Fox Super Vibrax No. 3 spinner is one of those that makes sense to keep in your set for every fishing day. According to all fishermen, this is a catchy and well-balanced spinner that works well at shallow depths

I honestly admit that I didn’t catch any trophies with it; rather, the spoon works well for perch and small pike.

There are now a lot of Chinese fakes of Blue Fox Super Vibrax on the market or, so to speak, cheap Chinese analogues, try to choose the one that will work well when wiring. You can check the number on the back of the petal; as far as I know, the original should have: USPAT 4163338 (my turntable has this number).

Among the minuses of the spinner, I can note that sometimes when casting, the petal seems to stick to the body of the spinner, and the spinner does not immediately “Rigid” attachment of the hook to the frame happens on almost all spinners of this type. I recommend that those who are annoyed by this fact, like me, try cutting off the tee and rewinding it through the winding ring.

This will allow you to quickly change hooks, for example, to those that are additionally armed with a vibrating tail or twister to more actively attract a predator. Just remember that a number of turntables lose their playability, start up worse, or tend to stop during wiring. So don't cut everything at once, experiment with a couple.

To summarize, I will say that this lure can be considered a must-have for a pike fisher, just like the Mepps Aglia. I wish you successful fishing, catch big fish and even bigger ones!
