Fishing on the Chulym River in the Novosibirsk region

Fishing on the Chulym River

The Chulym River is famous among the fishermen of Western Siberia for its fishing spots. It preserves such rare species as nelma, sturgeon and sterlet. Unfortunately, their population is constantly declining, so catch is limited. The following types are more common:

Most fishermen hunt large predators and bream. Some of them use different gear when fishing to ensure a good catch. Many fishermen set up gear in different places when fishing from a boat. They put live bait on one of the fishing rods. This is how you can catch large pikes and perches.

Steep banks with small cliffs are popular among fishermen . This is where you can catch large predators. For fishing, float rods with a high-quality rod are most often used. For such fishing you need sinkers weighing at least 20 grams. The fish begin to actively bite in the morning. It is at this time that fishermen try to be very careful, as large predators can actively move, trying to escape. But experienced fishermen only get pleasure from such fights.

The Chulym River attracts carp lovers. For fishing you need to choose a place very carefully. Carp most often hide in holes next to snags. A sign of carp is the presence of a colony of shells. Large individuals are very cautious, so you need to be very quiet. Bait is also of great importance. Some fishermen begin to lure carp 2-3 days before the start of fishing. You can use steamed wheat or peas as bait.

Pike perch and other fish of the Chulym River

The Krasnoyarsk region is rich in a variety of fish, but pike perch is caught only in the Ob River basin, so we go after it to the Chulym River, which flows into it, through hundreds of kilometers of endless loops.

Local fishermen measure these distances with “crooks” and “sands”. There are no distances in conversations with them, and the advice on the fishing location is: “from the Small Old Staritsa you walk five sands, and behind the crooked river, in a ravine, in a dense spruce forest, there is a good place to stop.”

The weather forecast was favorable and we planned the start on Tuesday so that the pressure from fishermen would be minimal. As often happens, the day before the start, weather forecasters promised completely different weather, with heavy rains and gusts of wind, but this will not scare real fishermen. And so on Tuesday night I, Kostya and Lekha, had already moved west, in the direction of the river, which was more than 300 km away. When I stop for gas at the last gas station in this area to fill my tanks for the trip, I notice that the trailer wheel is shaking, hitting the sides. Trouble is, the wheel bearings are damaged.

Luckily for us, Alexey was born in this area, where he has relatives. A call to his father, who gave the phone number of his uncle, who also happened to be the head of the motor transport depot in the regional center, located several kilometers from this place, gave hope for a successful solution to the problem. We slowly drove to the indicated place, where we had to wait until the car mechanic came to work and the spare parts store opened. Even if there was a delay of several hours, we still got to the place where the boat was launched.

The weather that day “whispered” with summer warmth, with a tailwind. Therefore, the journey was comfortable. Turn after turn, shallows and steep banks, snags and tree trunks that had fallen into the water, all already familiar from last year’s trip, floated past, delighting with their varied views.

An indispensable assistant in such places is an echo sounder, which warns in advance about shoals. On the way, with stops for refueling, stretching our bones, and looking at interesting places, we spend about five hours. Interestingly, there are a lot of boats and fishermen’s camps on the river, despite the short distances and weekdays. But this is not surprising. With the onset of autumn, nelma go up the river to spawn - a desired prey target for poachers, who place “strings” (slings with live bait) across promising river beds. And the predators of these waters are now also fattening, accumulating fat reserves for the winter, ensuring a stable bite, and luring dozens of fishermen to catch the desired trophies.

It’s getting dark, so we quickly set up camp on a sand spit, having first checked it for traces of clubfoot. There are countless numbers of them in these places. And a lean year for pine cones, the main product of fattening for the winter, does not bring much optimism and the desire for a chance encounter on the shore, where bears are regular guests. Collecting firewood, doing small household chores, preparing dinner - and now the day is over. We celebrate our arrival, have leisurely conversations and settle down for the night.

As usual, the first day in nature invites you to sleep, so we spend the morning bite in a sweet dream. Breakfast of scrambled eggs and ham, tea, collecting gear and, finally, the long-awaited fishing.

In my assortment is the Major Craft Rizer, with a test of 6-24 grams, which I intended to use for wobblers and, as the main tool, the new Aiko Shooter SH802MH, with a test of 10-38 grams, created specifically for jig fishing, as the inscription “Jig” reminds special". Looking ahead, I’ll say right away that I never expected to encounter such a “feel” from this fairly budget spinning rod. I don’t know how Aiko’s campaign managed it, but fish bites with this rod are felt at the highest level, like a shot, reaching from the bait to the very heart, allowing you to make an instant hook. Apparently it’s not for nothing that, in translation, the name of this rod is Strelok.

And now the first pike “shot” with a bite and was tempted by the vibrotail. To feel the bite, you don’t need to look at the tip of the rod at all. A reliable safety margin of the spinning rod allows you to force the pike to land without giving it the opportunity to go into the snags, of which there are a great many here. Your soul immediately feels good. There is fish, which means there will be fish soup and fried fish.

Fishing on Lake Chany

Lake Chany is considered the largest natural reservoir in Western Siberia. It is located on the territory of the Barybinskaya Lowland. The area of this reservoir changes during the season, it ranges from one and a half to two thousand square kilometers. The maximum depth of the reservoir does not exceed 7 meters. In the lake you can most often find perches, pike perch, bream, pike, roach, crucian carp and carp. Tench, minnow and verkhovka are less common, but are sometimes caught by lucky fishermen.

In the summer, hundreds of fishermen come to the lake. They know that May and June are the luckiest months. In July, fish activity decreases, and fishermen have to make additional efforts. The bait ensures a good catch even on warm days. In summer, it is best to choose small bottom dumps. This is where you can find large specimens.

The main problem for visiting fishermen is that all fishing spots are known to local residents, who are not ready to reveal their secrets. That is why fishermen from other regions are forced to spend several days attracting fish. Most often, steamed pearl barley and pieces of bread are used as bait. This bait is attractive to bream, golden crucian carp and roach. Most fishermen use brown leeches and grasshoppers as bait. Particularly lucky fishermen even manage to catch tench.

In August, feeder fishing enthusiasts come to the lake. They say that it is at this time that you can catch very large bream. Most often, individuals hide in holes with a muddy bottom. Fishermen set up gear twice a day. A good bite is ensured at dawn, as well as from 13 to 15 hours of the day. Large bream bite well on worms, maggots and pieces of dough. Some fishermen use pieces of foam as bait. They color them and flavor them with vanilla.

Fishing on the Chulym River

The Chulym River is located in the Novosibirsk region. Fishing on this river is very popular, as it contains a large number of fish, and its banks seem to be designed for catching fish. Where the Chulym River takes its sources, the confluence of the Black Iyus and White Iyus rivers occurs.

The length of Chulym reaches 2 kilometers, and its depth is 7 meters. Flowing between the cities of Nazarovo, Bogotol and Achinsk, it flows into a lake called Malye Chany. There are no difficulties with getting to the river, as there are no thickets near it.

Features of river fishing

Many tributaries of the river allow fishing in any convenient place. The river has sufficient tortuosity, which sometimes creates an obstacle for fishing lovers when rafting. Fishing on this river is only possible in the summer, as in winter it almost completely freezes.

It is worth considering that in some places the water flow reaches high speeds. Almost all species of fish living in this reservoir are predatory. According to numerous reviews from fishing enthusiasts, the most commonly caught fish species are considered to be:

Before you start fishing, you should also take into account the fact that for a successful catch you should use a variety of gear and bait. Do not forget that in this river there are fish such as sterlet and sturgeon, which are listed in the Red Book, and their fishing is prohibited. Fishing in this area is very popular, so local residents organize paid fishing from a boat or from the shore.

Free fishing can only be carried out by a person who knows the area well and safe locations. There are rarely cases among fishermen when fishing on the Chulym River does not bring any catch. The large number of fish in this reservoir is associated with the rapid growth of algae, which in turn feeds the inhabitants of the reservoir.

When choosing a day for fishing, you should take into account weather conditions. Windy weather should be avoided. Strong currents in the reservoir and wind will not allow for a good catch. In the summer, a large number of midges located on the banks of the reservoir oblige fishermen to use sprays and creams to repel insects.

Chulym

A river in Russia, the right tributary of the Ob, flows through the territory of the Republic of Khakassia, the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Tomsk Region.

Morphology: Formed by the confluence of the Bely and Black Iyus rivers, originating from the Kuznetsk Alatau, 40 km south of Uzhur near the village of Maly Syutik, Khakassia). From the source to the city of Achinsk it has a mountainous character; near the village of Legostaevo (near the village of Novoselovo, Novoselovsky district), the distance between Chulym and Yenisei is only 7.5 km. The current between the cities of Achinsk and Nazarovo goes around the Arga ridge. Below, the river flows along a wide floodplain (up to 10 km), replete with lakes, oxbow lakes and meanders; The channel is multi-branch (up to 1200 m wide). Crosses the Chulym Plain. Beyond Achinsk, the Chulym flows across the plain. The river here is winding and splits into many branches, making it difficult for ships to pass through. At this point, the Chulym receives fairly deep tributaries and becomes wide and deep.

Hydrology: length 1799 km, basin area 134 thousand square meters. km. According to the state water register of Russia, it belongs to the Verkhneobsky basin district, the water management section of the river is Chulym from the water-measuring station in the village of Zyryanskoye to the mouth, the river sub-basin of the river is Chulym. The river basin is the (Upper) Ob to the confluence of the Irtysh. The food is predominantly snowy. High water from May to July. Average water consumption 785 cubic meters. m/s; the highest flow rate is 131 km from the mouth of 8220 cubic meters. m/s, the smallest - 108 cubic meters. m/s. Freezes in early November; opens in late April early May; ice jams are frequent in spring. The average sediment flow is 68 kg/sec, the annual volume of sediment runoff is 2,100 thousand tons. The river is navigable from Achinsk 1,173 km to the mouth, but the tortuosity of the Chulym and rapids make navigation difficult.

Large tributaries: more than a hundred “internal” streams - the Chulym River is so rich. The tributaries that fall into it have completely different lengths - from 50 km to 250 km. The longest are White and Black Iyus. Some of the merging streams have no name because they are so small. Among them there are also oxbow lakes and channels. The left tributaries of the Chulym are the Serezh, Uryup, Kiya, and Yaya. The right tributaries are the Bolshoy Uluy, Kemchug, and Chichkayul.

Ichthyofauna: there are no large cities on the banks of the Chulym up to Achinsk. There is also no navigation, since in this place this stream flows like a mountain river. And here it is rich in aquatic animals. Therefore, it is here that fishing on the Chulym River is the most notable. It is in this area that not only pike, pike perch, ide, tench, burbot, roach and crucian carp, common throughout Russia, are found, but also purely Siberian taimen and grayling, lenok and nelma. Sterlets and sturgeons are also found in the waters of the reservoir.

Features of fishing: lovers of recreation on Chulym note that the banks of the river are very picturesque; you can often see white water lilies blooming on the water.

Necessary equipment for successful fishing on the river

What gear, bait, lures, and supplements are used for a successful catch on the rivers of this river can be found in any book of fishing enthusiasts. Frequently used fertilizers when fishing on Chulym include:

As for the gear, each fisherman uses a fishing rod and a net of standard sizes that are convenient for him; local residents catch fish using special nets - “spiders”. It is also permissible to use a spinning rod for fishing.

Feeding of fish is carried out according to the individual wishes of the fisherman, using standard methods. A large catch on the Chulym River can be achieved in the morning and evening, at the same time feeding should be carried out. The prepared mixtures are poured into places with little current and the presence of algae.

Various spoons or spinners, which have a bright or golden color, are used as bait when catching predatory fish. As with any fishing trip, every angler must have additional gear.

From the numerous experiences of fishermen who went fishing on the Chulym River, we can conclude that due to the large amount of algae in the reservoir, the fishing line breaks. The picturesque nature allows you to make your holiday on the Chulym River and fishing unforgettable and exciting.

Hello everyone who is reading I am writing about a very long-awaited trip, it seems to be becoming a tradition for us. Last year we went there around the same dates, but this year we added +1 day to the trip, because... We didn’t notice the last departure at all. And we’re already thinking about next year

Russian fishing

Chulym originates from the confluence of the middle rivers Bely Iyus and Black Iyus in the territory of Khakassia, then 1100 kilometers of the river bed runs through the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. After this, the river goes to the Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions, where it flows into the Ob. There are many settlements on this river; in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the largest settlements are the cities of Achinsk and Nazarovo, the villages of Bogotol, Pervomaiskoye and Asino.

Until the territory of Achinsk, the river runs through mountainous terrain, where there are many rocky outcrops of ancient volcanic tuffs. If you look at the geographical map, you can see that the river is heading towards the Yenisei. But, before reaching it only seven and a half kilometers (near the village of Legostaevo), the river abruptly changes its direction, going first to the north, then to the west, to become a tributary of the Ob. This is due to the fact that Chulym was unable to cut a channel in a small rocky massif, thus creating a geographical paradox.

To Achinsk the river is among areas of mixed and small-leaved forest and among completely treeless areas. From Achinsk the area levels out, and from this city, right up to its confluence with the Ob, the Chulym behaves like a typical lowland river - it meanders along its floodplain, creates and goes around a large number of islands. The width of the Chulym floodplain in some places exceeds ten kilometers. Therefore, after floods, numerous floodplain lakes - oxbow lakes - are formed in old river beds. The width of the Chulym channel in the flat part, including the islands, can reach one and a half kilometers. On the river, in its middle course, there are many areas where the river does not break into branches; it flows among steep banks (rocky and sandy-clayey), where there is an intense current and great depths. Local residents call such areas breakthroughs. From Achinsk to the border of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the river also runs through the steppe with areas of mixed and deciduous forest. Cities and industrial enterprises located on the river have wastewater treatment plants, and in general do not create extreme environmental stress on the rivers and the environment.

Chulym is rich in fish; there is a wide variety of species of river inhabitants. These are perch, grayling, roach (gray), lenok, crucian carp, chebak, pike perch, ide, burbot, ruff, dace, nelma, tench, pike, taimen. The river may contain sterlet and Siberian sturgeon - endangered species listed in the Red Book.

Fishermen note that the fish in Chulym are large, since there is a lot of algae at the bottom of the river and the fish have no problems finding food. Amateurs fish with a float rod of various modifications, a bottom fishing rod, a girder, a spinning rod, and a torpedo (boat).

  • Location: Chulym flows from the territory of Khakassia to the north and west, the largest settlements are Achinsk, Nazarovo, Bogotol, Pervomaiskoye, Asino. Then the river goes to the territory of the Novosibirsk region.
  • Directions: Almost everywhere along the banks of the river there are automobile, dirt and country roads and approaches to the water.
  • Nozzle, bait: earthworm, maggot, insects, caddis larva, artificial fly, spinner, wobbler, mouse
  • Types of fish: Dace, Ruff, Crucian carp, Lenok, Tench, Burbot, Perch, Soroga, Pike-perch, Taimen, Grayling, Chebak, Pike, Ide

Fishing on Chulym

01/25/2014 admin

There is a Chulym River in Western Siberia, its length is 1799 km, it originates in Khakassia, flows through the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Tomsk Region, where it flows into the Ob. First I would like to talk about the river itself and its inhabitants. The Chulym River is quite long in length and in some places reaches a depth of 10 or even 15 meters. Fishing on the river is excellent, there are a lot of species of fish, for example: taimen, perch, pike, dace, crucian carp, ide, grayling, roach, ruff, burbot, lenok, and sometimes even pike perch. Fishing on Chulym is quite interesting, you can use all sorts of different gear there. For example, my favorite tackle is a spinning rod. You can catch quite a few species of fish with a spinning rod. You can catch perch, pike, taimen, lenok, pike perch and even grayling with a spinning rod.

The most promising places on Chulym for pike fishing are places with a weak but rather deep current. Most often, pike are caught from under bushes lying in the water and tree roots washed away during the flood. For catching pike in such places, mainly white or yellow spinners weighing 10 grams or more are used. The easiest way to catch a pike from under a bush or fallen tree in the water is by using vertical lures, tapping the bottom with a lure. Also, the pike is not large, but up to two kilograms, can be caught in the channels or backwaters of the river.

There, the most preferred bait for pike will be spinners up to 25 grams and no more, since the pike that are found there are not very large. Also, for catching pike in both winter and summer, you can use hooks or nets, as they are now popularly called. They catch spruce trees about 10 - 12 centimeters long and mount equipment, which consists of a tee on a leash, a sinker, a large float and a fishing line 5 - 6 meters long and 0.5 - 0.6 thick. Pike hooks are usually left overnight, as the predator likes to approach the shore at night and feed in the late evening. You can also catch a very good perch for 1.5 kilograms using hooks.

Perch on Chulym is caught in places with a small current and good circulation, where funnels are formed. It is best to catch perch using a float rod or small fish (minnow, spruce). Perch also takes well on spinning rods. For this you need small spinners up to 15 grams, only spinners and small wobblers. Of course, you can catch perch on Chulym using a worm, but it will bite on a worm differently than on a small fish. Perch can be caught not only in Chulym itself, but also in its backwaters and channels. The most exciting fishing on Chulym is, of course, catching the king of the river - taimen.

Taimen is a very careful fish and very strong. For comparison, I can give you an example from my practice that a pike with 12 kilograms of fishing power will be inferior to taimen by only 4 kilograms. Taimen always stands on the current, on a very strong current. I have noticed more than once that the taimen bite starts at 10 pm and continues until the morning, about 8 o’clock. Taimen is usually caught in the fall and winter, but I would say that it is not caught in the summer either. The most promising spinning bait for catching taimen is a spinner, the weight of which starts from 20 grams, and at night the best bait, which has no competitors, is an artificial mouse.

Lenok is a salmon family, as well as the closest relative of taimen and is also a predator. The habits of lenok are the same as those of taimen. Another very attractive fishing on Chulym is dace fishing. Dace is not a large fish, but it is very tasty, and it is so pleasant to catch that I would even give up 15 kilograms of pike. Dace is caught in the same places as perch, with calm currents and great depth. Dace are usually caught with a float rod and a worm on a hook. I’ll tell you a secret, the most effective equipment for catching dace in the period from early June to mid-August is a jig with a grasshopper or with ants and a float, without any sinker. I don’t know why, but for some reason this equipment is the most catchy during this period.

Grayling fishing is very entertaining, especially on a ferry (sled, boat). The flies float on the water and you can see the grayling's attacks on the fly. This is very impressive. There are also places on Chulym where you can catch just a float rod and a can of worms: dace, perch, grayling, ide and even taimen (up to 2 kilograms). Such places are places with a medium current and a very deep hole immediately near the shore. As for burbot fishing, almost no burbot is caught in the summer. Burbot is usually caught in the spring with a worm, in late autumn and winter with live bait, or in the winter with lures.

I would also like to share with you a very interesting bottom equipment, and most importantly, it is very convenient. Grocery stores sell drinking yoghurts in 250 ml volumes (Actimel, Rastishka, etc.). So, such bottles are very convenient for using bottom equipment. A fishing line of about 30 meters is wound around this bottle, leashes with hooks are stored separately in a liter bottle, and the load (about 40 - 50 grams) is also stored separately. So, what’s the whole point of this bottle? It’s very easy to throw equipment into the water from this bottle, the line flies off the bottle like it’s off a reel, and it’s just convenient to store.

Well, that’s actually all I wanted to share with you. I advise you to go fishing in Siberia on the Chulym River. There is not only clean water and a lot of fish, but the nature there is very beautiful, in general, you are guaranteed a great vacation!

Fishing on Lake Chany

Chany is the largest lake in Western Siberia. The lake is drainless, located in the Barabinskaya Lowland in the Novosibirsk region. The average depth is about 2 meters, the greatest is 7 meters. The lake basin is flat. The lake is shallow, depths up to 2 meters make up 60% of the total area of the lake. The shores of the lake are quite low and heavily indented, overgrown with reeds, reeds, sedges and bushes. The bottom soil is sandy and silty. Most of the lake is located in the forest-steppe natural zone; the lake is surrounded by steppe from the south. It freezes in the second half of October - the first half of November, and opens in May.

Lake Chany is home to 16 species of fish. The most numerous: silver crucian carp, perch, carp, ide, pike perch. Roach, pike, and bream have average numbers. Small species: golden crucian carp, peled, dace, tench, lake minnow, gudgeon, verkhovka. The main wintering place for fish is Yarkovsky Plyos and Lake Yarkul. The most abundant fish in the Yarkovsky Reach is perch. In the summer, all the main species live in significant numbers in the Chinyaikha Reach; in the Tagano-Kazantsevsky Reach, the most common species are ide, pike perch, carp, and crucian carp; the numbers of roach and perch are somewhat smaller.

Characteristics of the Chulym River: photo, description

The watercourse extends for 1,799 kilometers, with slightly less than half of its length falling in the Tomsk province, and most of it in the Yenisei province, which existed before 1925. The width in different places ranges from 90 to 500 meters (especially in the lower reaches), and near the city of Achinsk it is approximately 150 meters. The river reaches a depth of only more than 2 to 5 meters (in some places - 7 m). The pool area is 134 thousand square meters. kilometers.

During the spring flood, the water from the river overflows its banks for a short time and floods the valley; in the summer, the reservoir becomes shallow, and numerous shoals and riffles are formed.
