Shape and material
Lucky John Tioga is a hybrid bait consisting of a worm-shaped body and a compact tail. The body of the bait has a characteristic thickening at the front and side ribs. Thanks to the presence of the thickening, the strength of the Tioga increases at the point where the tip of the hook emerges. This form of bait provides a bright, lively animation that literally makes the predator go crazy. When conducting in water, intense vibrations are generated, amplified by the presence of side ribs.
The material from which Tioga is made is moderately elastic and very durable. Silicone can withstand more than one predator attack without loss. In addition, Tioga sits perfectly on the hook and stretches well.
Edibility Lucky John Tioga
Tioga, like other models from Lucky John, is made of edible silicone with a mackerel scent. It is important that the attractants that attract fish, along with salt, are included in the silicone. This is a so-called full-fledged edible product, and not ordinary rubber coated with a flavoring on top. The Scent&Taste Inside Formula used (2/3 of the attractants are inside the silicone, and 1/3 on the surface) guarantees long-term preservation of the scent. The smell does not even disappear after the silicone has been in the water for a long time.
Thanks to the excellent taste parameters of Tioga, the number of empty hooks is noticeably reduced. The predator that grabs the bait does not immediately notice the catch and does not spit out the silicone.
Edible bait Tioga from Lucky John Pro Series
In this blog I want to share my impressions of spinning fishing with Tioga edible bait.
This year I tried fishing with edible baits from Lucky John for the first time. With the current variety of such silicone baits from the world's leading manufacturers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to try all the models produced. Nevertheless, I had very positive impressions from the Lucky John Pro Series, and I didn’t regret for a minute that I chose this model. Tioga proved itself especially worthy, along with baits from more famous and expensive manufacturers.
Tioga is available in sizes 2; 2.4; 2.9; 3.9; inches. And recently it is also available in 3.4 inches. My most popular size turned out to be size 2.9, although next season I plan to pay more attention to large sizes in hopes of winning trophies, of course))
Along with the positive ones, you can often find negative reviews about Tioga on the Internet, and the comment looks something like this: “but my Predator still works better.” I don’t know how one can compare such completely diverse baits, and what kind of fish were compared? Under what conditions? In general, I realized a long time ago that reviews are reviews, and each fisherman makes his own opinion.
Tioga has a narrow, purulent body (worm-like) tapering towards the tail and a wide heel on the tail. The body is corrugated, flexible, and has no floating properties. Due to this body structure, Tioga very realistically copies a wriggling worm when playing the bait on a jig head near the bottom, and the soft wide heel ensures a stable wide play of the tail on a uniform retrieve. In general, the Tioga is a fairly typical model for jig fishing for pike perch and pike perch, however, with its own characteristics. There are quite a lot of colors in the assortment, including traditional Watermelon, Chartreuse, Orange and others. One of the best colors that showed themselves to zander and perch was the color Flash Minnow and Ocean Pearl (with light accumulating properties).
However, it’s not just a matter of color, because even the very darkened, box-worn mother-of-pearl Tioga continued to catch fish. Which speaks first of all about the successful design of the bait.
In addition, the Ocean Pearl color is interesting because it is monochromatic and convenient for independent color adjustments, for example, using special markers.
The smell of all models is the same - it is the aroma of mackerel. Naturally, Tioga has edible properties thanks to the Scent&Taste Inside Formula technology. The material contains salt, as indicated on the package. Fresh Tioga leaves large oily stains on the water, and you have to wipe your fingers with a rag, the lures are smeared with such a strong smell of greasy product. I used a variety of installations, most often it was a regular hinged installation with an offset hook, or Texas equipment.
In addition, Tioga was successfully fishing with a drop-shot rig in the snags. I can’t say anything bad about the stability of the material. So, one of the Tiogs could catch several good fish in a row and remain unharmed, but sometimes the heel was chewed off by a small perch on the very first cast. This is like everyone else, because the perch “brush” often tears any silicone if the fish has not swallowed the bait completely. You can tell how lucky you are. More often I changed the Tioga only in case of a break in a snag, so I was quite satisfied with the reliability.
The main fish I caught were pike perch and perch, plus just a few pike. The main indicator is catchability, compared to similar “worms” from CrazyFish or Keitech. It turned out that Tioga was in no way inferior to either Vibro worm or Swing Impact. So, in most cases, this was the best option, considering the price/quality ratio.
This is what the light-accumulating Tioga looks like in complete darkness. When fishing in the dark, it is advisable to recharge the bait after 3-5 casts with a flashlight.
Of course, more expensive baits also have a right to exist; baits from Reins and Keitech, as well as other manufacturers, have repeatedly helped out on fishing trips. I believe that you should not focus on just one manufacturer, but have at least several options. In general, everyone chooses for themselves what they like best. The fact that Tioga, at its affordable price, also fishes well is the main argument for me, so I have already bought new colors (there are several two-color ones) and am looking forward to the start of the new open water season))
To everyone who finished reading, NHNCH!

Lucky John Tioga is packaged in traditional plastic containers. The latch is reliable and does not open spontaneously during transportation - this is very important from the point of view of maintaining the attractiveness of baits for predators. The packaging is more than convenient. It is compact, which allows you to put it in any even small handbag.
Tips for using edible bait
First of all, the edible bait must be soaked in an attractant. To do this, it should first be washed and dried. Then put it in a plastic bag, where you add a liquid attractant. One bottle of 0.3 ml should be enough for 10 heads. Mix what is in the bag thoroughly and wait 3 days. The bait is ready for use, and its smell will last for 3 days. To get a good bite, you should slowly move the rubber through the water. When the fish has had enough of playing, it will bite on a stationary bait.
Silicone Lucky John is currently produced in Japan, Thailand, China, and Latvia. The last manufacturing country stands out from the rest, as it has developed a large selection of rubber, differing from each other in color and smell. The bait is available in shrimp, crayfish and mackerel flavors. Its shapes and colors are varied. For example, bait for perch is available in 5 different colors. The equipment retains its smell, shape, and color for a long time.
Color palette
As for the size range, so for the color, there can be no questions. None. Many different working colors. In addition to the usual classic ones, there are also “chameleon colors”. Their peculiarity is that they are able to change their shade depending on the light level.
Perch consistently respond to Tioga purple and the color of machine oil. Pike and walleye take the light green Tioga better than others. Green coloring with black splashes works in all types of predator. A very catchy, versatile option.
Popular products
The Lucky John Rock Craw bait is universal and active. It imitates crayfish, resembling it both in appearance and smell. The attention of predators is attracted by the oscillating movements created by the movable tail and small legs of the bait. The use of this rubber is especially effective when fishing with Texas rigs.
Fantasy edible rubber Lucky John Hogy Hog is an imitation of something between a crustacean and a large larva. The aroma of shrimp is ideal for attracting perch, trout, and pike. Reviews advise using this bait for microjigging. According to anglers, using such bait is a guarantee that your catch will be big!
Lucky John Hogy Hog 66 is an edible rubber that is a sinking twister. It is universal, as it can be used for fishing at any time of the year, including winter. Edible rubber Lucky John LJ S-SHAD TAIL is a vibrating tail that has a long body shape. To create these fishing products, the brand uses durable materials that, despite their softness, are resistant to bites.
Mounting options
Lucky John Tioga is a universal bait in terms of installation. The bait is equipped with both a hinged mounting and a jig head. Spaced rigs, such as Carolina and Texas, are effective for fishing in difficult areas.
This model also performed excellently on a drop shot, especially on current at a good weight. Suitable for Tioga with Vaki type equipment.
The bait works equally well with a single hook, an offset hook, and even a double hook.
Types of bait
Silicone Lucky John can be divided into 2 categories based on the type of edibility. The first has a ready-made scent, which was provided by the manufacturer himself. The second contains silicone impregnated with substances to attract fish. In appearance, these two categories are no different.
Edible has three types of bait:
- Texas (offset hook). It is placed inside the bait attached to the fishing line.
- Drop shot (weight at the end of the line).
- A bait pierced in the middle with a hook is called Weki. The point of the hook peeks out.
Wiring Methods Lucky John Tioga
Postings can be very different, since the bait has a very interesting and rich animation. You need to “dance”, first of all, from the mood of the predator.
For active fish, uniform retrieving works well, and at any depth: in the middle layers, near the surface, and near the bottom. It is advisable to correctly determine the fishing horizon. It is useful to take short pauses and small twitches.
The passive predator prefers to grab Lucky John Tioga with a classic step-by-step retrieve. It is highly desirable to diversify the classics. This can include acceleration, tapping on the bottom, and trembling.
Lucky John Long John

Catching our common predators with jigs and medium and large vibrating tails is the norm, a good tradition of recent decades. Now it’s hard to imagine how they used to catch, for example, pike perch with something that wasn’t silicone... So, today the baton from ordinary vibrotails is being taken over by vibrotails, the same thing, but edible. The Lucky John brand, a well-known supplier of budget soft baits, has released, among other things, several interesting models of such edible vibrating tails. One of them is Lucky John Long John . Let's take a look at it now.
Well, the bait has a very interesting shape. The body of the Lucky John Long John vibrator is oblong, elongated, imitating a narrow-bodied fish. The cross-sectional shape of the body is wedge-shaped, close to triangular. The bait has a flat back, and the sides meet on a narrower, rounded belly. On the side surfaces of Long John silicone there are transverse notches and slight ribbing. It covers almost the entire body, except for the small head and the narrowest part of the tail, at the transition to the penny. On the head there are imitation eyes, just small hemispherical tubercles. And the vibrotail nickel itself is quite large, medium in massiveness. When wiring, the tail plays at a medium frequency. If you attach a Long John to a light jig head or use a hinged mounting, then the bait also has vibrations of the whole body relative to the longitudinal axis, a sort of swaying. This also attracts fish.
This is an interesting model - Lucky John Long John. This is a classic vibrotail, a representative of active silicone baits. Those. rubber has its own play, vibration of the tail with uniform wiring. And this quality, of course, is, if not the main, then an important technique when wiring.
Lucky John Long John vibrating tails are available in two sizes: 3.1” and 4.2”. They can be described as medium and closer to large. Those. Long John 3.1” is a universal all-season bait for catching large perch, pike perch and pike using a classic jig. And the size of 4.2” is already a bait for a slightly larger predator. And it is better to use such tires closer to autumn. However, if you are lucky, and the reservoirs where you fish are abundant with large predators, do not hesitate to jig for a large John, but do not take a small one at all.
Lucky John Long John silicone is packaged in regular packs of thin transparent plastic, closed with Zip fasteners. A pack of baits measuring 3.1" contains 8 vibrotails, and a pack of baits measuring 4.2" contains 6 pieces. A pack of the former costs about $1.8, and the latter costs $2.5-3.2, depending on whether they have one or two colors. Yes, yes, the prices are so different because of the palette.
So, the small version is quite affordable compared to most baits in this class. Of course, only tires from Kosadaki are cheaper (from a less well-known and digestible quality...). But the large version, especially the two-color one, is already alarming with its price tag. But, still, it can be considered quite cheap and suitable for purchase.
The vibrating tails are made of fairly soft and moderately durable silicone. Normal material, as for me, in terms of combining free play and resistance to tearing by fish.
Silicone is naturally edible, attracted by a mackerel-based composition. It seems that the smell of fish is good for soft bait, wherever it is used, in the sea, in a river, in a swamp...
There are many colors. As I already said, there are suited ones, and there are two-colored ones. Lots of good, working flowers! Here you can choose a natural, light, silver coloring to match the fish, and there are different dark and bright colors.
As a vibrating tail, the Lucky John Long John works very well when attached to a jig head. But, very often, due to the narrow body of the bait, it is attached to an offset hook. At the same time, the offset machine can be loaded with a collapsible “Cheburashka” type weight, a bullet weight in the Texas installation, or simply tied to a branch leash.
Since the vibrotail is quite compact, it flies quite well and can be thrown quite far. In addition, the bait does not sail much and resists the flow of water. So, this rubber can be used both in still water and in medium and even strong currents.
So, in the form of the Lucky John Long John rubber, we have a high-quality and inexpensive vibrotail that catches pike perch and pike well (better, of course, than the first). This is a classic jig bait, which is carried evenly, evenly with pauses, step-by-step wiring, perhaps with the introduction of some play-ins. But the basis of the bait is this. A classic vibrotail, a classic jig, embodied in an edible fish. A slightly different form, but all this has already happened. And it continues to work. It is most important.
