Modern Bolognese fishing rod. Part 1. Rod.

Successful fishing with a Bolognese fishing rod will be a pleasure, you just need to choose the right gear. The reel, of course, plays a significant role; the success of fishing also depends on it. Often in fishing stores, one’s eyes simply run wide from the rich assortment of gear, including reels. Cheap and expensive, inertia-free and ordinary, they attract our attention. But the eyes of an experienced 34fish.ru fisherman will stop at the reels that will fit the Bolognese fishing rod, and from them he will choose the one he needs.

About reels for a Bolognese fishing rod

Initially, the reel was considered the “keeper” of the fishing line. However, developing technologies have added many more functions to it. The reel now affects not only the casting distance, but has also become an assistant in landing large fish.

A good reel will become a real assistant when fishing for a trophy

She began to look different from before. Here we are talking, first of all, about the materials from which the reel is made: bronze, ceramics, plastic. Its technical characteristics have also changed. You can read the material about fishing with a Bolognese fishing rod.

Important nuances of equipment

Currently, two types of equipment for lap dogs are used - blind and sliding. The first option is suitable for examining shallow water areas where there is no current. Sliding rigs are necessary when fishing at great depths in places with strong currents. They differ in the way the float is attached. For example, in the first case, the float is tightly fixed to the main line using two cambrics from below and from above. In the second case, it can move freely along its entire length.

For a blind rig, you first need to thread a rubber cambric through the main line, and then insert the line through the locking eye on the float. Next, the lower cambric is threaded, which should be 5 centimeters in length. This trick allows you to use the remainder of the product as an anti-twist, preventing accidental overlapping of the fishing line. At the next stage, the fishing line is equipped with the main, heaviest sinker, the weight of which is selected taking into account the loading of the float. Below this weight there are small pellets that ensure precise adjustment of the product’s displacement. It is also necessary to fix the swivel, which acts as an adapter between the main line and the leash.

In the case of sliding equipment, it is necessary to pass the silicone stop along the main line, and also insert the float through a special winding eye located at the bottom of the float. Some versions of the sliding float have two attachment points, one at the bottom and one at the top. Here you should first pass the line through the upper mount, and then through the lower one. Further actions consist of installing the main sinker, which occupies 90% of the total mass. Small pellets are used as an additional shipment.

Simple inertial coil

For fishing in weak currents, from a boat, in still water, a simple inertial reel is suitable - this is a small drum. It is light, its base is metal with a spool with a diameter of 3 - 7 cm. It does not have a clutch that releases the line, and therefore it will be difficult to take large fish with such a reel.

It would be nice to have spare spools in your arsenal, with different line diameters

How to use a spinning reel

Do not buy the simplest and cheapest spinning reels.
As a rule, they are not strong enough. The minimum requirements are already described in our article on choosing a spinning gear; in short, these are: a metal body or at least a metal spool, 4+1 ball bearings. Throwing is done as follows:

  1. With one hand, grasp the rod handle.
  2. Second, reel in the fishing line so that the distance from the bait to the top ring of the rod is approximately 40–50 cm.
  3. Hold the line with the index finger of one hand, while with the other hand move the line handler to the casting position.
  4. Make a cast with a movement of your hand, while removing your finger - the line will slide freely.
  5. Point the rod tip out to the side to monitor tension. When the tension disappears and the line sags, we will receive a signal that the bait will fall to the bottom.
  6. Now close the bow with your hand and you can do whatever you want.

Quick tips for all occasions:

  1. To free yourself from the snag, turn the rod so that the cord approaches the line guide roller of the reel through the ring. Turn the rod itself towards the cord at an angle of 90 degrees.
  2. You shouldn’t fish for large fish with a reel – fish them out with a rod. This way, you will eliminate the possibility that the fish will go under the snag and tangle, or even break, the fishing line. And the load on the coil mechanism will be significantly less.
  3. If the reel gets wet, do not dry it in the sand to avoid contaminating the mechanism.
  4. Close the line guide arm with your hand.
  5. The spinning reel handle should rotate in one direction.

How to choose a fishing line for fishing - what would be better: monofilament, braid or fluorocarbon for a float?

A fresh look: an ultralight rod and reel is the best way to catch small predators in ponds, lakes and small rivers.

An echo sounder for fishing from the shore will help you obtain information about aquatic inhabitants and the exact depth at a distance of up to 70 meters from the shore (and you don’t need more for a float).

Wiring inertial coil

A wiring coil is also suitable, also inertial, but the material from which it is made is more durable and complex in structure. If the model is made of high quality, the reel will have bearings with a rotating spool. This is an ideal option for fishing in the current. The hook with bait is thrown into the water and the current itself unwinds the fishing line, all that remains is to reel it in towards you. The main thing is that the coil (wiring) works smoothly and easily. You can read the material about the Bolognese fishing rod.

Gear ratio and friction brake

One of the important parameters. Most reels produced have gear ratios between 4.5 and 5.1:1. For Bolognese fishing, a higher ratio is preferable: up to 6:1 or more. Together with a large spool, this directly affects the speed properties of the reel, and allows you to reel out up to 1 meter of fishing line per turn of the handle. The friction brake must be very finely tuned due to the use of long rods and thin leaders. It is necessary to choose the so-called “long” clutch, when the extreme positions of the brake are separated by 3-4 full turns of the nut.

Multiplier reel

It is good for spinning and trolling. The advantages of such a coil are defined as:

  • greatest sensitivity when fishing;
  • withstands heavy loads, unlike inertial ones;
  • light;
  • it has a longer casting range.

In a word, this is the same inertial coil only of an improved model.

The multiplier itself consists of:

  • line counter;
  • braking spool;
  • changes in gear ratio.

The reel is attached to the top of the rod, then you can feel a weak bite. This reel also has its downsides. Firstly, it is difficult to hold in your hand. Secondly, it is more difficult to configure. There's no need for experience here.

The reel must be clearly and firmly fixed to the rod

Reel weight and budget

We can conclude that a reel for a Bolognese fishing rod should be large, fast and light at the same time; most often it is a reel for match fishing. A cheap reel is not capable of combining such parameters; it will inevitably be heavy. It will become impossible to work with such a reel when fishing with a long rod in your hand and constantly recasting in just an hour. In addition, its design and general geometry will not allow unhindered handling of 0.12-0.14 mm fishing lines, especially in the presence of wind; loops will be thrown off and thin fishing lines will become tangled. Therefore, it makes sense to expand the budget as much as possible for a particular person; the costs will definitely be justified during fishing and will be reflected in the catches. Adviсe

  • The reel should be stored away from dampness.
  • Once a year, open the reel and lubricate its mechanism with oil.
  • The coil is used only for its intended purpose; you should not experiment with it.
  • After fishing, the reel needs to be cleaned of dirt, wiped and dried.
  • If the reel is stored and transported correctly (preferably in a case), it will serve for a long time.

The optimal spool diameter for a Bolognese fishing rod is 2500

And finally

Advice from salespeople in specialized stores is not always true. Therefore, feel free to choose a spinning reel for your Bolognese fishing rod - this is an easy and reliable option. Let's say more, the Daiwa Megaforce X 2500 will undoubtedly suit you.
