Neya River in Kostroma region

Characteristics of the Nemda and its tributaries

Nemda is a river flowing in the European part of the Russian Federation in the Kostroma and Ivanovo regions.
The name probably comes from a word in the Finno-Ugric languages: niemi - cape. It is a tributary of the Volga and flows into the Nemden Bay of the Gorky Reservoir. The length of the river is 146 km, with a drainage basin area of 4750 km². The sources of the river are located on the southeastern edge of the Galich Upland. In the upper reaches the river flows through a wooded area, meanders, changing direction. The width of the river often does not exceed 10-15 m, and only after receiving water from the left tributary of the Shuya does it almost double. Here the River begins to flow in a southerly direction, periodically crossing meadows and areas of forest. Periodically, the banks adjoin swampy areas of the lowlands. In the immediate vicinity (approximately 20 km) from the reservoir, the river is backed by the waters of the Volga and, mixing, forms a kind of bay, which has a very impressive appearance. Numerous islands have formed in the waters of the bay, which are popular among water recreation enthusiasts and fishermen. Recreation centers and sanatoriums have been built on some of them. The river has mixed feeding with a predominance of snow. Freeze-up on the river occurs in November, ice melts in April. The lower reaches are navigable. Large tributaries include: Pechelda, Acha, Panfilovka and others.

Fishing on Nemda

And there is something to talk about.
Summer 2010. Nomda. The heat is unbearable. For fish too. In July we had to leave at 3 am and go back at 6 am. The predator mainly bites during this period of time.

Pike on a green vibrotail

Guests who came to fish mostly returned with a catch, although somewhat smaller than in previous years. The perch bites mainly on the vibrotail; you can catch pike, asp, pike perch, depending on your luck.

Please tell me, is it possible to fish without a boat? Or only from a boat?

Of course you can, catch it to your heart’s content...

Please tell me why, according to the fisheries authorities, it is forbidden to fish in the Nemda and its tributaries? They say there are some rules?

admin January 29, 2011 at 1:27 am | In response to the author Alexander.

What nonsense... The rule is not to fish with nets, electric fishing rods or dynamite. Just like everywhere else, there is spawning... As for the rest: come and fish to your heart's content!

I’m relaxing with my family as wild people (in a tent) and we don’t spoil nature. Where can you stop to relax and fish?

Fishing Features

The river is surrounded by a large number of settlements. Nemda is popular with fishermen, especially in the lower reaches. The river is distinguished not only by good catches, but also by excellent scenery. Not all rivers in the region can boast such an abundance of fish as here. The most interesting fishing is for “white” fish. Various fishing methods are suitable for this: various types of bottom and float fishing rods, and in winter - fishing rods for ice fishing. The river has a slow flow, so it is very comfortable for most types of fishing. With some luck, it is quite possible to catch a sturgeon, and even an eel or lamprey, which, through the waters of the Volga, come from Lake Seliger. Like most rivers in the region, fishing on the Nyomda is possible almost all year round. This is facilitated by a satisfactory transport infrastructure and developed tourist services. We recommend using the services of local fishing and recreation organizers. In addition to a comfortable rest, experienced guides will help you choose a fishing spot and fishing methods.

Nemda

I apologize in advance that the report will be boring, but I couldn’t help but write it.

“The summer has passed, as if it never happened...”, yes, it has passed by, especially when it comes to fishing, but my wife throws out the phrase in the middle of the week: “Maybe the weather will be good in Nemda”... and looks at my reaction, what a sly one. I left for work without saying anything in response, and my soul itself was out of place... but what is this, we’ve never been to this river all summer, no, that’s it, we’re going!

On Friday we get ready, sleepless night and now at four in the morning on Saturday, we are rushing along the Soviet Highway, to visit the beautiful river. The route is almost empty, the road has been repaired... it’s bad, it’s not shaking... it’s making you sleepy. Kilometers fly by, the sun is rising, at the side of the road The elk is grazing peacefully, not paying attention to anyone. Not much more and now we are turning along the dirt road and then it started, every ten meters, grouse and wood grouse fly up from the roadside, and one actually sat down in the middle of the road to chatter... oh, it’s roaring no, and I’m not a hunter. We approached the desired turn, the tires were road, we looked at each other and decided to take a chance. But the forest path turned out to be dry, only in places, like in the song “where we can’t go straight, we’ll go sideways,” but everything is fine, we got there. And here it is..."Hello!" .

We parked, took out our spinning rods and went off to fish familiar places.

The water is clear, the bottom is clear...

...but without losing hope, I go to the coveted riffle. I set FISHYCAT icat 32F-DR (32 mm, 3.2 g) and after a few postings there is a clear chub bite, which, although small, is the first fighter of this season! Let me go, baby grow! Further casts and changing baits did not bring results, although in the morning the river greeted us with splashes and scattering fry. Okay, it’s a start, I’ll go and try my luck with the fishing rod. My wife and the chub didn’t work out, although there was one bite. Taking the fishing rods, we chose a place with a weak current and a depth of two meters, fed them, and soon the first bite...dace, but the joy did not last long, a bleak came, although large, but not what we were counting on. Later we managed to catch a good roach , but one. Time is ticking, we’re heading out, we need to set up camp and have something to eat. Toward evening we repeat the raid on the big-headed one, during which, on Kosadakov’s Roger midi, I came across another one, but larger, 350 grams... also released.

The autumn day is short, the sun is hiding behind the horizon...

...preparing dinner

, we had a meal and now it’s completely dark, so let’s sit by the fire and drink some tea.

We couldn’t sit for a long time, the sleepless night made itself felt, and in the morning there was another attempt to catch luck by the tail... that’s it, lights out.

The morning greeted with fog and coolness, silence on the river.

Cold water, a hot breakfast, invigorating coffee, brought us back to life. In the morning, with fishing rods, we returned to the same places, hoping to take revenge for yesterday, but it was even sadder, even the bleak reluctantly responded to the variety of bait and alluring groundbait. They changed the place - hole, but it’s deaf there too. We’re looking for an excuse for our failure... the wind has changed, and so has the weather. And now the sun is rising higher and higher above the forest, there is beauty all around.

We go to the camp, change gear and have a last run through the riffles. I fish with a pot-bellied Goldik bighead, also up to 400 grams, with the wish to grow big, I let you go in peace. Everything is finished, it’s time to get ready for the return journey, but first a farewell lunch. During lunch, sitting at a table, I hear a snorting coming from me, I turn my head and see something sticking out above the water, I took a closer look, and it was an elk swimming below us from the other bank, but they spotted us and the elk turned back and went out onto land and took off. But that’s about our meetings We weren’t done with the animals. On the way back, passing by a berry patch (chokeberry and viburnum), we stopped to see if it was ripe, and then I noticed that the road was “mined” - here and there there were black “mines”, and here was the trace of the owner of the arsenal (sorry I didn’t take a picture) - a bear’s paw print, into which my outstretched palm calmly entered... and the club-footed ones got here.

In general, the meeting with the river was at the highest level, the weather was pleasing, we had a great rest, although we were sad about the fish, but that’s not the main thing... the main thing was that we saw the river, the soul rejoiced with happiness, we received a lot of positive emotions. Thank you Nemda, see you again! All the best and NHNCH!!!
