Fishing in autumn, fishing in September

Pike fishing gear

There is still a long time until December, two whole months. Autumn is in full swing, it rains almost every day, there is a cold wind, and by the end of October, frost and the first frosts are already noticeable in some regions and regions. Of course, the peak of autumn delights will be in November, but even in October the weather is already such that many fishermen, who are used to sitting with a fishing rod for crucian carp or catching roach, have already put away their gear until spring. But it was at this time that the pike began to bite better and better, fattening up for the winter. We have already noted that somewhere from the end of August to September, the pike, in some sense of the word, comes out of a sleepy-amorphous state (if the summer was hot) and begins to fatten (read about pike fishing in September) . And October is precisely in this regard very tempting for spinning anglers and pike fishing enthusiasts.

It is clear that in October pike is caught both with a spinning rod and from a boat with various tackles, poles and circles . But it is spinning that has come out on top today , since it is a very affordable tackle, it is not difficult to purchase quite good tackle for reasonable money, and there are so many baits that it’s scary to even imagine. But the most interesting thing is that spinning, in a sense, is a universal tackle . So, a spinning rod can also be used for a spinner (wobbler, jig), as bottom tackle, install a pike float and fish for live bait. Naturally, a zherlitsa can be made from a spinning rod, but this is not so effective, since you can only fish in one place with one zherlitsa, and the autumn day is short, although...

Fishing for pike in October

The most fishy places on the Oka in the Serpukhov region

Fishing on the Oka in the Serpukhov region can only be effective if you have a good knowledge of the most catchable places. Some areas are better suited for fishing for predators, while others can bring a good catch of whitefish.

Protva

This area is very popular with floaters, as there are many places where effective fishing from the shore is possible. The key to successful fishing is properly prepared bait, to which you must add heavy soil that prevents the mixture from quickly washing away. In spring, baits of animal origin will work better. In summer, underwater inhabitants prefer boiled pearl barley and corn.

Many fishermen come here for the predator, which can be caught well with spinning tackle from May to September. It is easier to catch pike perch, pike perch and pike perch using classic jig baits, performing step-by-step retrieval near the bottom. Asp, chub and ide respond well to wobblers, spinners and oscillating spoons.

Excellent fishing spots are located on the opposite bank of the Oka near the village of Lanshino. A special feature of this area is the presence of significant depths, which invariably attracts bream and pike-perch anglers here. On the extensive sand spits located near the village of Drakino, you can count on a good bite of asp and chub.

A little further downstream, the small river Skniga flows into the Oka, on the banks of which you can always meet anglers who enjoy reeling. Their trophies are roaches weighing from 100 to 400 g. Occasionally, it is possible to catch bream and ide using this method.

Lukyanovo

Near the village of Lukyanovo there are several deep holes where bream are successfully caught throughout the year. Some of the caught specimens reach a weight of more than 3 kg. Local fishermen prefer to use classic bottom gear with heavy weights and several hooks. The most significant catches are observed among feeders, who, unlike beavers, have the opportunity to attract underwater inhabitants with aromatic bait.

Not far from Lukyanovo there is a water canal connecting the Oka River with the Tsimlyansky quarry. There is always active migration of fish in its waters. Spinning anglers catch large pike perch here.

Getting to this section of the river is quite easy. From the Kursk station you can get to the “one hundred and seventh kilometer” platform and walk to the village of Lukyanovo. You can get here by car along the Simferopol Highway. The quality of the roads leaves much to be desired, so in rainy weather access to the shore may be difficult.

Lopasnya and Besputa

Of great interest to all groups of fishermen is the Oka section, near the confluence of the Lopasnya River. The varied bottom topography makes these places attractive for predators to inhabit. Large perch and trophy pike perch bite well here on a variety of jig baits. Near the mouth of the Besputa River there is a shallow riffle where asp, ide and chub can be caught well throughout the summer.

Mutenka

A rather interesting place for a fisherman is located above the road bridge, near the village of Lida. In the warm season, you can successfully fish here using a feeder and float tackle.

The main feature of this area is that in the autumn you can count on a good burbot bite. With the arrival of September, the predator is consistently caught with bottom gear, the hooks of which are baited:

  • a bunch of worms;
  • fish slices;
  • chicken liver.

The daily bite of this fish is inconsistent. Night fishing turns out to be more effective. A little further upstream at the confluence of the Mutenka River, where burbot bite not only in open water, but also from the ice. More detailed information about fishing on the Oka in winter can be found in this article.

The maximum weight of local predators is about 2.5 kg. You can get to this site along the Kashirskoye Highway, turning off at the sign for the village of Lida.

Night fishing on the riffles for pike perch can be especially interesting. As soon as the sun sets below the horizon, the fanged predator enters the vast shallow waters in the hope of feasting on small fish. The beginning of the hunt is easy to recognize by strong splashes.

If during the day it is easier to catch pike perch using jig types of bait, then at night it is preferable to use minnow class wobblers with natural colors and a depth of no more than a meter. Sometimes rotating spinners with a silver “long” blade show good results. There is no need to make long casts, since the predator often feeds just two to three meters from the water’s edge. For such fishing, the spinning angler will need to arm himself with a headlamp.

Below the rift near the village of Torbushevo there are two deep holes where not only pike perch and bream, but also catfish often linger. The mustachioed giant regularly bites on jig baits in these places.

Excellent fishing on the Oka near Serpukhov is possible in the area between Ozery and Kolomna. The extensive roll near the village of Gory attracts the attention of not only spinners. But also fly fishermen. Artificial flies are good for catching sabrefish and chub. If you put a small popper on the tackle, you have a chance to catch an asp. Very attractive places for anglers are located at the confluence of the Sturgeon River, where a wide variety of fish is found.

Place 1

For many citizens, especially men, spending time on the shore of one or another body of water with a fishing rod in hand is the best form of recreation. Many people wonder where they can go fishing in the Russian Federation, but they cannot come to a common denominator, as a result of which people fish wherever they can.

The good news for all lovers of this type of outdoor activity is the fact that in Russia there is the Oka River, which is one of the most populated by various species of fish.

We suggest you read: Pike perch for trolling

Moreover, this body of water flows in seven regions of the country at once, which allows many notable fishermen from several regions to get wild pleasure from their favorite hobby.

Based on the above information, we can conclude that the Oka River includes many good places with a good bite, therefore, in this context, it will be impossible to list them all.

But it is still possible to note some of the many “fed” places, since according to reviews from Internet users, they are considered to be the most fruitful:

  • Kolomna and its surroundings (Moscow region) - the area of this small town has many small villages where fishermen often stop. It is recommended to fish here for those citizens who are “fans” of bream. For those who are hearing about this fishing place for the first time, it is worth publishing a list of towns and villages near which you can do a fair amount of fishing: Kolychevo, Trinity Lakes, Beloomutovskaya Dam;
  • Kashira (Moscow region) is a relatively small settlement, near which you can often see fishermen hunting predatory fish. Here the Oka channel is quite difficult for anglers: winding, with rocky and rocky rifts;
  • Bekhovo (Novgorod region) - this, at first glance, unremarkable village attracts a lot of fishermen in its surroundings, and throughout the year. The only negative is the fast flow, but if you get a spinning rod in advance, you can bring home a good catch in the form of a chub;

Even though “wild” tranquility has not prevailed on this river for a long time, there are still places where fishing lovers can satisfy their need and go fishing in peace.

These include:

  • City of Serpukhov.
  • The Lopasnya River, or rather the place of its confluence with the Oka. The Lopasnya River is its left tributary.
  • City of Kashira.
  • City of Ozyory.
  • The border with the Serpukhov district is Malyushina Dacha.
  • City of Kolomna.

Where to stay?

When choosing a place to bite, you should consider some general rules:

  • It is necessary to choose that part of the reservoir where there is a more or less calm current: without funnels, undercurrents, and so on.
  • It is important to pay attention to the bottom. If possible, you need to find an area with a flatter bottom, strewn, for example, with small pebbles.
  • The depth of the area also matters. The optimal option is about 3 or a little more meters.

This concerns summer fishing. In winter, there are other nuances to finding a place to fish:

  • It is best to fish in holes.
  • Winter is a time of hunger and cold, so fish bite best on bait of animal origin. For example, for a worm or maggot.
  • Also, do not forget about yourself, and warm yourself properly and stock up on hot drinks.

There are good fishing spots near the city of Kashira. There fish are found in quarries. Pike, zander and perch are found in large numbers.

Pike activity in October

Actually, in October, the water in lakes and rivers becomes almost transparent, i.e., various kinds of algae and other microorganisms, which also use oxygen dissolved in water, stop or reduce their activity until warmer times, therefore, in addition to the fact that the temperature The water level is already quite low (which is good for pike), and the water is also saturated with oxygen. Of course, in such conditions, the pike feels like a master, attacking in a fit of instinct almost everything that can be food and interest for it. She does not stand in one place, as in summer, but actively explores the reservoir, chases prey, but unlike the warm season, she already prefers deeper areas .

What baits are used in October?

Again, the weather in October can vary, with cold weather often followed by warm days. But the beauty is that the water has already cooled down so much in September that even a sunny short October day will no longer be an obstacle to catching pike. Hence the simple conclusion: in October, pike can actively feed almost all day, and what’s great is both in cloudy weather and on clear days. The only difference is what kind of bait you give to the fish, bright or dull, light colors or darker. But there is an important point here: since October pike is most often searched for in holes, in deeper areas with a calm current (if fishing is on a river, or even better if there is no current) areas, then the color of the bait, for example rubber or wobbler, is almost does not matter. As they say, for the sake of complacency, you can try different baits, but at depths of 3-5 meters, in our opinion, this parameter is no longer so important. Perhaps we are wrong.

In October, pike mainly take from the bottom. And in this sense, foam rubber and vibrating tails with twisters are beyond competition. Please note that you can make such baits yourself, fortunately, purchasing foam rubber of different porosities these days is not a problem.

In addition to foam rubber, baits made of polyurethane and other materials are very effective. What is characteristic of the October pike is that with adequate fishing, it will grab everything. But, once we fell in love with foam fish, in the fall we catch more pike using them. Look in the bathroom how cool the foam rubber stands in the water at the bottom. And even a slight movement with a spinning rod can give this bait a movement that a hungry pike notices. Well, one more thing, because the foam rubber can also be made in a non-hooking version , so that it becomes possible to make casts into difficult places.

Lures for fishing

Fishing on the Oka River

The Oka is one of the deepest rivers in the Moscow region. There are a lot of riffles, shallows and large holes in this area. Such relief features make fishing especially attractive. Of course, a few decades ago there was much more fish, but even today fishing on the Oka is popular. There are many places in the Moscow region for paid and free fishing.

So, today is a review of the reservoirs of the southern part of the capital region. I think I won’t be mistaken if I say that local fishermen place their hopes mainly on the beautiful Oka. Because, unfortunately, there is no other significant reservoir in the area. And we must admit that Oka fully justifies fishing hopes. After all, it enters the Moscow region in the Serpukhov region as a powerful water artery.

Suffice it to say that its width here reaches more than 200 meters with an average depth of up to two meters. And along the fairway its depth is up to 10 meters. Quiet, calm reaches give way to noisy and fast riffles. Therefore, the fishing conditions are very diverse, and therefore the gear used is different, depending on what kind of fish they intend to catch.

And the river is rich in fish, there are more than 20 species, including bream, roach, perch, pike, silver bream, ide, chub, asp, pike perch, burbot and even catfish. There are favorite fishing spots here that are eagerly visited by fishermen. We will briefly talk about them, starting from the place where the river “confluences” with the Moscow region and following it downstream.

The Oka River is one of the largest rivers in the Moscow region. In the Serpukhov region there are many places where you can go fishing on the Oka.

Let's look at the most popular fishing spots on the Oka River in the Serpukhov region

Place 1

The Oka River is located in the European part of the Russian Federation. It is considered the largest right tributary of the Volga. It flows through several regions of the central part of Russia: Moscow, Kaluga, Ryazan, Oryol, Tula, Nizhny Novgorod regions. It is worth keeping in mind that there is a river of the same name in the Irkutsk region, but in scale it is significantly inferior to its European namesake.

The official source of the Oka is considered to be a spring in the village of Aleksandrovka, Glazunovsky district, Oryol region. The length of the river is 1500 km, with a drainage area of 245 thousand km2. There are quite a few options for the origin of the name, but most researchers believe that the main version is a variant of modification by the Slavs, a word of ancient European origin close to “aqua” - water. Settlements of various peoples on this river have been known since ancient times.

The river originates on the Central Russian Upland at an elevation of about 227 m from sea level. The main current passes through the flat landscapes of Central Russia, in particular, through the Oka-Don and Meshchera lowlands. It flows into the Volga near the city of Nizhny Novgorod. In general, the river has a wide valley with several terraces.

There is a division of the Oka into Upper and Lower, but it is quite arbitrary. Some researchers believe that the Upper Oka section ends at Kaluga, others at Kolomna. In the upper reaches it has a relatively narrow river valley with steep banks, and the current speed is quite strong. At Kaluga and further, the river turns east, receiving several large tributaries, such as the Ugra, Plotnya, Lopasnya, Tarusa and others.

Here the Oka becomes a truly large, deep river. The width of the river valley can reach 3 km, with a channel width of 20-80 m. In the middle reaches, below the river mouth. Moscow, the width of the valley can already reach 20-30 km, and the width of the water flow is about 170-550 m. The channel has a large number of bends, mainly composed of sandy and sometimes gravel deposits.

We suggest you familiarize yourself with: Popular navigators for forests and fishing

The average depth of the reservoir is 1-3 m, but after the confluence with the Moscow River, deep-water areas of up to 10 meters or more often appear. The banks of the river are covered with mixed and deciduous forests. In the lower reaches, on the right bank, the landscapes are represented by forest-steppes. There are a huge number of oxbow lakes and channels in the river floodplain.

In terms of water regime, the Oka is typical for most Eastern European rivers. The main flow occurs in the spring (more than 70% of the annual norm). The river's nutrition is mixed, with a predominance of snow. Summer-autumn low water may be interrupted by floods. The spring flood occurs after ice drift, which, in the lower reaches, can last until the beginning of May.

The opening of rivers usually occurs in early April. Steady freeze-up occurs in different parts of the river between October and December. Due to the discharge of hot water from the Kashirskaya State District Power Plant, a large section of the river never freezes. In addition to the previously mentioned tributaries, the largest ones include: Skniga, Vypreika, Vashana, Svinka, Suvoroshch, Komola, Zusha, Kolp and others.

The influence of weather on pike biting in October

By the way, we already talked about the weather, but the rule works here: if the weather in October is stable over time, there will be a bite, but if it is constantly changing, both in terms of temperature and atmospheric pressure, then you will have to work hard to see the bite . But since many of us go to the pond only on weekends, we have to put up with some nuances.

The colder it gets, the deeper the pike goes, following schools of other fish species that go in schools to wintering holes. By the end of October, some reservoirs may already have ice, which will most likely melt. In our region, the first stable ice sets in around December, and for about a week pike can still be actively caught, near the grass, where it goes out to catch perch, and in holes. As long as the oxygen regime is normal, the pike is active.

Fishing bases

In the Moscow region on the Oka there are two fishing bases that have long earned the recognition of many anglers.

"Dawn"

The Rassvet base is located 100 km south of the capital, on the very banks of the Oka River. You can get here along the Simferopol highway. If you plan to travel by public transport from Moscow, then at the Yuzhnaya metro station you can take a bus to Serpukhov and go to the stop called “Base Recreation”.

The Rassvet camp site is located in a very picturesque place, surrounded by an ancient pine forest. There is a well-kept sandy beach on the territory, where in warm weather you can sunbathe and swim. All paths are paved with wooden tiles. The total area of the farm is more than 6 hectares. The absence of large cities and highways nearby allows you to fully enjoy the silence of this protected area.

For comfortable accommodation of fishermen and their companions at the Rassvet base there are four-bed cottages. Eight residential buildings are intended for winter use. Each house is equipped with two bedrooms, a kitchen and a veranda. Tenants can use various additional services for free, for example, guarded parking.

The camp site provides a transfer from the city of Serpukhov. Guests can always take a steam bath in a Russian sauna and drink tea from an ancient samovar. Experienced huntsmen will suggest the most promising points and take you to the fishing spot.

"Silver Age"

The Silver Age tourist center is ready to receive guests throughout the year. Daily accommodation in a cozy house will cost the fisherman 3 thousand rubles. You can rent float or spinning tackle for 300 rubles. They get here along the Simferopol highway, driving about 80 km from the Moscow Ring Road.

The base has a large fleet of motor boats. In a cozy cafe you can order a dish prepared from your own caught fish. Vacationers are provided with gazebos, a bathhouse and guarded parking.

There are many places for free fishing in the Serpukhov region. A good catch is ensured near the rifts and sand bars. The following places are considered the most popular:

  • The settlement of Lanshino is famous among fishermen for the abundance of asp, perch and ide. Most often, fishing is done using a spinning rod.
  • The village of Protvino attracts lovers of perch, pike perch and asp.
  • The confluence of the Nora River with the Oka is suitable for catching pike perch and pike perch.
  • The bridge near the village of Zibrovo attracts bream lovers.

The section of the river in the area of the Belopesotsky Monastery is popular among fishermen. There you can catch both peaceful fish and predators. Fans of spinning most often install gear in the area of the railway bridge. Opposite the city of Kashira there is a popular cool place. It is very easy to find, since it is located next to the telephone cable laying indicator. The downside of the place is its humidity. Even in summer it is difficult to get there.

In the Lukhovitsky district of the region there is the popular village of Beloomut. It is located near the waterworks on the right bank of the river. Local residents know what kind of fish is found there, as they often vacation there.

In summer you have to occupy convenient areas very early in the morning.

This is due to the fact that the shore is covered with bushes and it is quite difficult to find a convenient approach to the water.

Most often, pike perch become the prey of fishermen.

There are so many of them that some anglers release too small specimens.

Pike and perch are much less common.

Bream lovers can try their luck in the Kolomna area. The village of Bolshoye Kolychevo is located there. Bream are caught using feeders and bottom gear. Some fishermen return home with a catch of perch and ide, but they are much more difficult to find.

There are many recreation centers in the Moscow region for fishing in winter and summer. They are very popular among residents of the region. So, very close to the oxygen resort of the region is Drakino Island. There is a recreation center of the same name located there. Very often fishing enthusiasts from the Rusfishing club come there. On the territory of the recreation center there are comfortable cottages where you can stay for several days. Another advantage of the base is the opportunity to relax with the whole family.

The reservoirs are regularly stocked with fry, so even beginners are guaranteed a catch. There are professional instructors at the base who can help you choose the necessary gear. They will help you catch carp or trout. Fishing is allowed both from the shore and from special bridges. There are no catch standards, but each kilogram must be paid upon departure.

The ponds near Serpukhov, located near the village of Arneevo, are deservedly popular among local residents and fishermen from Moscow. There you can have great fishing and relaxation. The list of fish species that are found in the pond is quite large.

We suggest you read: How to clean fish from scales at home

The following species can be caught there:

  • silver carp,
  • carp,
  • Amur,
  • bream,
  • pike,
  • tench,
  • roach.

Each fisherman can use no more than 2 gear. The price of the tour includes catching 4 kilograms of any fish. If the fisherman is luckier, he will have to pay for each additional kilogram.

The recreation center "Otradnoye", which is located near the village of Turovo, attracts fishermen with excellent conditions. There are 3 large ponds inhabited by carp, crucian carp and trout. When purchasing a ticket, you are allowed to catch 5 kilograms of carp or crucian carp.

The trout catch rate is slightly lower, it is 4 kilograms. The base is located almost 100 kilometers from Moscow, but this does not frighten outdoor enthusiasts. In winter you can warm up in an excellent Russian bathhouse, and in summer you can relax on the shore of a reservoir.

From the author:

And finally, I would like to express hope: if the pike is actively biting, you should not take home a dozen tails, because fishing today is not about getting food. There will be much more respect for you (and you will begin to respect yourself) if the caught predator, after being photographed, is released into its native waters, grows up and enjoys this development of events.

Well, be prepared for the fact that fishing in October may turn out to be fruitless . There are many factors that influence the bite. Even though there are general patterns, there is always a case. As they say, if you get a bite, you’re lucky, otherwise you can walk for kilometers and still not see the exit of the fresh water predator.

Good luck to you and all the best.
