Dnieper – where is the best bite?

Spending three days on a boat on the Dnieper is better than 24 days in a sanatorium. And returning without fish is not a shame. After all, even pike has periods when it has no teeth... The Dnieper does not need any characteristics. Everything has been said about him as love. Let us only note that it flows through the territory of Belarus for 600 kilometers. Of these, 115 km. along the border with Ukraine.

More than two months pass from the melting of the ice to the restoration of normal river levels. Even in May, there are floods in the fields near the Dnieper, but old-timers know where to find suitable depths for casting from the shore. The fish are hungry, bream even respond to plant bait. When there is no wind, large individuals hunt for midges and mosquitoes swarming above the water. There is a good prospect for fishing near Bykhov, a little downstream from the village. Enter at the end of Bykhov after the last buildings to the left, and then straight to the beach, and to the right along the shore and the oxbow lake.

Those who are in the mood for bream fishing should know that in June you can catch large bream, but after spawning they are unlikely to be fleshy. June night fishing is good. The resounding, incomparable splash of a pike perch on a night river invigorates you, like a blow from a whip, and makes you forget about time. The catfish bite in July at Streshin also lives up to expectations. And here are other opinions - according to echo sounders, there are large fish in the pits near the River Port in Mogilev, in Zhary, at the Gubichsky cordon and in other places, but they do not respond to bait. “July is not the best time for fishing,” others say.

The life of a fisherman

Today Oleg and I went to the Dnieper to raft along my big route, about 15 km long. We will catch the predator with a spinning rod. The weather was excellent, but a strong wind was blowing against the current. I completely forgot that on the Dnieper the situation with wind is not at all like on lakes or small rivers. And so we swam... I set up the camera...

And in front of the predator. At first the emphasis was on the pike, but the pike didn’t want to bite at all. Occasionally, an asp struck with a chub, but no pike was observed to reach the small fish (((Then, on one of the rifts, Oleg took the chub for a size 7 salmukha.

I took the baby with Salmukha 5 and started shooting him and he brought me a small head.

Then another one.

The fish were not active, and there were not as many of them as there were before. Before the death, I found schools of all kinds of fish; now there are fish, but not in such quantities.

The Dnieper is very beautiful in good weather..

I also came across the main predator of our rivers)) Bleak)) is constantly caught with small wobblers))

Then he began to throw deep wobbles around one hole and hooked a pike. The pike was small, but it resisted with dignity, it even moved with screws, like under a hole in winter))) and in the end it defeated me)))) and went off near the boat... I think if I hadn’t been at anchor, I might have taken it. I swim further... I look around the pike sites, but the pike doesn’t want to bite... I notice one of the good chub places and swim to the other side, the chub usually always bites there. I put a chub wobbler from Aliexpress. It was not chosen due to the fact that it flies quite well in the wind... it is difficult to catch with salmon, because she's very light.

I started casting and it didn’t take long for the bite to happen, but the fish didn’t catch me... I cast again and another bite follows, I hook and the fight begins))) fight with a good fish)) The kid works his strikes well and his test is still too high

Ay good))) How many times I catch pike perch I come across it for the first time.

Small Chinese wobbler)))

Then I swim back and another good fish catches the splash, but it was apparently a chub, but it got away. Then I cast again and catch a perch))

Then we swim out to our peninsula for lunch)) Tradition cannot be broken))) After lunch we swim out again, but I’m already targeting the chub, because... the pike doesn’t take something at all, or rather there were 2 bites, I got off near the boat, and Oleg caught it and that’s it... I take a Chinese fish and shoot it... something lands, but the resistance is somehow weak... incomprehensible... something incomprehensible is hanging out at the other end fishing line O_o eventually got the saber fish))))

after saberfish I immediately catch a chub... small... I release it.

From time to time you come across such little heads...

small...but they still bite...

Then I see a man fishing with a fishing rod, so I think I’ll throw it again and wait for the boat to pass by him with the current. The wind died down and so I loaded the salmukha))) I cast and landed something large... I thought it was a pike, but no, it was a chub.

Of course, the fish were weak and the wind was very disturbing, but still the fishing was a success))) after all, I caught the long-awaited river pike perch and saberfish)))

There are 4 fish in the catch))

Chekhonka 420 grams)))

Pike perch 1.090 kg

The head hung at 1.010 kg. So we caught it and rested)))

“In September – October it’s Indian summer on the Dnieper!” - such a poster greets visitors in one of the fishing stores in Mogilev. October caresses with mild sunshine, but sometimes it brings clouds with the wind. So does fish. Just now she was easy on the bait, but an hour later she doesn’t take anything. Everything that experience advises and the traveling arsenal allows is used. For example, in the Rogachev area: if you didn’t catch it from the shore, try your luck from the boat. If you didn’t succeed with spinning, equip a feeder. Properly fished holes can yield good pike, as those who have visited the village of Lyado suggest. And near the village of Rudnya Kamenevaya, although the access to the river is convenient, however, having thrown wobblers into the water, you need to use all your patience and passion in order to lure the toothy one onto the hook. In November and near Zhlobin they catch huge pikes, and they confirm this with photo sessions.

Fishing on the Dnieper

The Great Dnieper is a river of the flat type, has a peaceful disposition, and its speed is quite low.

The Dnieper begins to move in Smolensk, Valdai. It flows like a small stream from a small lake, more like a swamp, and then, gradually filling up, after 200 km it turns into a full-flowing water artery. The Dnieper channel meanders throughout and has numerous branches and tributaries, as well as shallows and calm channels. The Dnieper has a length of 2284.5 kilometers, and its area is about 503.5 thousand square kilometers.

The relief of the Dnieper is sandy, sometimes stone. There are many silted areas, and the river banks are overgrown with aquatic vegetation. There are not very many open areas within the city limits of Smolensk. In addition to fishing, the Dnieper also attracts people here for its beauty, surrounding vegetation and picturesque landscapes. There are many majestic trees of different species and shrubs. On the Dnieper you can relax not only by watching a fishing rod, but also get a lot of positive emotions for your heart and soul.

Over seventy species of different fish live in the waters of the Dnieper; Here they catch catfish, crucian carp, silver carp, perch, and pike perch. For those who like to hunt for the underwater predator perch, this river will be the most favorite body of water, because there is a lot of perch here. Fishing for crucian carp is usually carried out in early spring.

And in the first days of May, before spawning, crucian carp, like any other fish, feeds especially densely, and its activity pleases the hearts of fishermen. This fish is caught using float gear. The bait is usually earthworms. The banks of the Dnieper are the best places for catching crucian carp. Pike perch are caught using donka and spinning rods in the Dnieper; asp is also the most favorite prey for fishermen. Some specimens weigh more than ten kilograms. In any case, no one will leave without a catch.

Since the Dnieper also flows through the Smolensk region, it must be said that pike is caught in this river area, but in fairly cold times. In addition to pike, hunting is carried out, in addition to the fish listed above, for rudd, silver bream, rapids, roach, and chub.

In the Smolensk region, fishing for sterlet and Dnieper barbel (miron), which are included in the Red Book, is prohibited. However, sterlet is caught despite the ban, but its catch is sporadic, while barbel is caught quite often.

Here, in the upper reaches of the Dnieper, a little-known fish, the nosari ruff, also lives. This fish belongs to the perch family, the size of the nosar is about twenty centimeters, and it weighs no more than two hundred grams. The skin has a yellowish tint, the back is olive-colored, the belly is white, with a silvery tint. There are many dark spots on the sides of the body. The head of this fish, unlike its usual fellow ruffe, is narrower. The nose's "muzzle" is longer than that of an ordinary ruff.

He lives only in clean water, on a strong current. It loves rocky and sandy bottoms, but it never gets along with the common ruff. This fish is caught using float and bottom gear. Local residents tell a legend that Peter the Great, having once tried fish soup from the nose, became a passionate “fan” of this fish. Guests arriving from abroad were required to try nosar dishes.

The king presented especially important guests with frozen fish, loading a whole cart. Fishing professionals prepare for pike fishing ahead of time. Pike are found in large sizes; there have been cases of catching 16-kilogram specimens. Fishing takes place with the help of a fishing rod, which has signaling flags: they do not allow you to miss the moment of a bite.

The piers are installed in holes that are drilled at a distance of 25 - 32 meters. This will prevent the pike from tangling the gear.

Fishing on the Dnieper Bug Estuary, an open freshwater body of water located on the territory of the Black Sea, in its northern part. The cities of Nikolaev and Kherson, which belong to Ukraine, are located in close proximity to the estuary. This is where the river flows into the Black Sea, forming a delta. According to local fishermen, in this part of the river there are a little less than 82 species of fish, both freshwater and saltwater.

Here you can find bream, pelengas, pike, tench, silver carp, sturgeon, catfish, goby, carp and even herring. Pike perch is the most commonly found fish in the estuary. Quite large in size, the handsome pike perch can be caught on a spinning rod, as well as spoons and donka. Various worms serve as bait. The upper layers of the estuary are inhabited by the wise asp, who loves warmer water temperatures. The gear used to catch it is the same as for pike perch.

It is a normal phenomenon that in December, ice on the river drives fish into the oxbow lakes. At this time, in the bays near Asarevich, you can put the fishing rod aside and simply lower the fishing line with the devil into the hole. It's fun to pull out perches like this, although they are usually small. On the Aleksandrovskaya oxbow and near Rudnya Kameneva, in the same way, scoring roach are lifted from the holes using a pellet with bloodworms. In January, ice hunting enthusiasts return to the river. This is where more serious battles take place. Almost everyone has donkey fishing rods, but everyone has their own preferences. Near the village of Skepnya, perch and pike are caught at stakes and by hand. True, getting here is not easy; only a strong jeep can pass freely. February gives rise to doubts about what the ice is like. The fishing fraternity responds responsively and promptly on the Internet, because otherwise there is no way to know where the ice is strong and where it is not so strong. Another February feature is that as it approaches spring, the entire river microfauna comes to life, and bloodworms become an irrelevant bait. Author: Pike.Pinsk©, photo: !sasha!, Avtominutka, Cat.
