Bombard fishing - highlights

Not many fishermen in our country know about this equipment yet. Bombard fishing is well developed in some European countries, especially in Italy, where this method was invented several years ago, in Spain and France.

This gear is based on a special float, “bombarda” or, as it is often called in its homeland, “sbirulino” . A fisherman who has learned to use it well has the opportunity to fish using light baits over considerable distances.

Varieties of bombard

Almost always, fishing with a bombard is done using spinning tackle . Therefore, they are often called spinning floats. This fishing method was specially designed for long-distance casting of light baits weighing from 1 to 5 grams , and full-fledged work with them.

Like all ordinary floats, bombards have different buoyancy and differ in the degree of loading, but differ from them in their design. They combine the main advantages of floats and sinkers, from which fishing with sbirulino acquires new properties and possibilities.

Depending on their quality parameters, they are classified according to the degree of buoyancy and divided into types of loading. According to the degree of buoyancy they are divided into:

  1. Floating. They are always on the surface of the water.
  2. Slowly sinking (neutral). Such models are capable of diving to a certain depth and remaining there.
  3. Drowning. Fishing with sbirulino of this type is aimed at bottom-dwelling fish species.

Depending on the loading method, they are divided into two types:

  1. Bombard with an internal cavity designed to be filled with water. Such models have a variable degree of loading, since the angler himself regulates the amount of water.
  2. With a built-in weight , usually lead, but there are options with a movable brass weight in the form of a cylinder, which changes the quality of the sbirulino. Such models have a constant load value.

Due to their wide variety, fishing with a bombard can be carried out with a variety of equipment. Depending on where and what kind of fish the angler is going for, he can easily choose the method of fishing with a bombard.

What is a bombard?

Most often, the material from which the tackle is made is plastic. Depending on the fishing conditions, it is painted in different colors (from camouflage to contrasting).

A bombard is a float made in a special way. A well-thought-out design allows you to cast the bait far and accurately, set the required depth, and make retrieving conveniently. Another name for this type of float is sbirulino.

Using the device, the fisherman can throw small baits that do not scare away the fish. The float combines the functions of a sinker. A fishing line is passed through a tube that runs through its center.

Sbirulino has better aerodynamic capabilities than egg-shaped products, which are often used by fishing enthusiasts.

What types are there?

Bombards are classified by their ability to float on water. There are several types:

  1. For fishing on the surface (not sinking).
  2. For fishing in deep water (sinking slowly).
  3. For fishing near the bottom (quickly sinking).

Fishermen also distinguish sbirulino according to the type of sinker (loading):

  1. With manufacturer's built-in loading. It is not customizable.
  2. With a load that varies due to the filling of water.

Several more types can be noted based on the material from which the float is made: wood, glass or plastic.

Advantages of gear

Compared to the usual types of gear for fishing rods and spinning rods, the bombard is universal. It is suitable for fishing:

  • on open standing water of lakes and ponds;
  • along the banks that are overgrown with reeds;
  • from bridges, bridges, boats;
  • with fast flow;
  • on the sea coast.

With its help it is convenient to fish in the most inaccessible places. The float design eliminates tangling and unnecessary hooks, and with lightweight feeder rods and spinning reels, children and women can use the tackle.

Bombards are made for fishing at various depths, making long and close casts with many types of lures and baits.

The design allows you to catch different types of fish: pike perch, carp, perch, asp, silver carp, pike. It is convenient for her to display trophies of different sizes and weights. It is easy to play with a float to attract the attention of fish and perform many types of postings.

Sbirulino is produced or made independently in different shapes and sizes. This makes it possible to provide for the level of depth, range and accuracy of casting. The fishing technique with this float can be mastered in one fishing trip.

Recommended gear assembly option

Today, fishing with a bombard, thanks to the special properties of this float, is quite clearly distinguished from other types of fishing. To achieve the desired efficiency, fishing with spirulino (bombard) should be carried out with specially selected gear, which includes:

  • rod;
  • coil;
  • selected float;
  • fishing line, leash, hooks and bait.

Carbines and swivels are selected in combination with other elements.

The most suitable rod for any method of bombard fishing is an ordinary spinning rod with a sensitive tip . Its length must be selected depending on the free space around and fishing conditions. Typically, the length of the form is determined in the range from 2.8 to 4 meters . It is better to take a parabolic or medium-fast tuning.

The test parameters must correspond to the weight of the equipment along with the bait, usually 15 - 45 grams , it is in this range that 90% of these equipment are found. Fishing on sbirulino with such a fishing rod will bring results the fastest.

It is clear that bombard, fishing for which is carried out using a spinning rod, requires the use of a suitable reel in equipping the tackle. For this fishing method, the best option is a high-quality spinning reel with a size of 1500 to 3000 .

Experienced fishermen believe that the bombard, fishing for which has already become commonplace for them, should only be water-filled. As evidence of the correctness of their opinion, they give the following arguments:

  1. change the weight of this float model without a long procedure for re-equipping the gear. It is enough to add or reduce the amount of water in its cavity in order to increase or decrease its weight.
  2. This float is universal . By adjusting the amount of water in it, you can get a floating or gradually sinking float.

For those fishermen for whom the bombard and the methods of fishing with it are still new, it is better for now to use models with a constant weight. They are easier to master the technique of fishing with this equipment and will allow you to quickly understand what fishing with a bombard is.

Braided cord is usually used as the main fishing line , and the remaining parts of the gear are selected in accordance with the already selected elements, taking into account what type of fish you are going to hunt. Fishing with a bombard, the equipment for which is selected in accordance with all recommendations, is rarely ineffective.

Installation of gear. Video instruction

Today, the bombard has developed as an independent tackle and requires certain equipment. To assemble it you need the following fishing elements:

  • rod;
  • fishing line;
  • leash;
  • coil;
  • float;
  • bait;
  • hooks

Rod.

Fishing with a bombard is close to spinning fishing, so an ordinary spinning rod is suitable for fishing with this equipment.

On medium and small rivers it is best to use rods 2.5 to 3 meters long. Their test must correspond to the weight of the sbirulino being thrown.

For fishing in large bodies of water, you will need a spinning rod at least 3.3 meters long. However, if the banks of the river are heavily overgrown, then casting with such a rod will be quite difficult, since this requires a lot of free space. In addition, it is worth considering that fly spinning rods most often have modest tests. Therefore, when choosing them, you should pay special attention to this indicator.

fishing line.

If fishing is carried out at a short distance with light bombards, then monofilament can be used as the main one, since its stretchability is not particularly noticeable. When fishing at a sufficiently large distance from the shore with heavy floats, it is recommended to use a braided line.

Leash.

The leash should be chosen from monofilament or fluorocarbon, which is less prone to overlap.

To catch “toothless” fish, leashes 1.5–2 meters long and 0.1–0.12 millimeters thick are used. To catch a pike, you need to choose a metal leash, the length of which will be from 7 to 15 centimeters.

Coil.

For this type of fishing no special reel is required. You can choose a regular inertia-free one, with a size from 2500 to 3500.

It should be noted that when fishing with sbirulino, it is better not to tighten the friction brake too much. A tightened clutch when attacked by a fish can cause the loss of not only the bait, but also the trophy.

Bombard.

Many experienced fishermen advise using water-filled floats. There are two reasons for this:

  1. If you pour a little water into the bombard, it will float. By filling it completely, you can get a sinking float.
  2. By changing the amount of water in sbirulino, you can increase or decrease its weight without tying up the tackle.

Sinking bombards are most often used when fishing with small spinners and wobblers. For the wire near the bottom of the streamer or fly, it is advisable to use a “Tyrolean stick”.

Hooks.

Their size should be chosen in accordance with the size of the bait and the intended catch. If live bait is used, the hooks should have a small barb, a wide hook and a long shank.

Swivel.

This element of equipment is necessary to ensure that the fishing line used for fishing does not twist. For this purpose, use a triple swivel size No. 14–20. If this is not available, then using fasteners you can connect two or three swivels.

Once all the fishing elements are prepared, you can begin installing the gear.

Classic bombard montage

Using video clips on the Internet, you can see several options for installing bombard equipment. But most often the classic version is used.

Installation of sbirulino:

  1. A reel is installed on the spinning rod, on which about one hundred meters of the main fishing line is wound.
  2. A bombard is attached to the end of the main line.
  3. After this, a rubber stopper and swivel are installed. A rubber stopper is necessary so that the float does not break the assembly when casting.
  4. A leash is attached to the second eye of the swivel, on the end of which a hook for natural bait or artificial bait is mounted.

Basic lures for bombarda

When fishing with sbirulino, you can use both live and artificial baits.

as natural baits :

  • fry;
  • leeches;
  • various insects;
  • insect larvae;
  • worms

artificial baits include:

  • flies;
  • small wobblers;
  • foam balls;
  • spinners;
  • small silicone fish.

Making a bombard with your own hands

Experienced fishermen quite often make sbirulino on their own. options for homemade floats :

  1. Using a knife, the float is cut out of foam plastic. Then it is rubbed with sandpaper and painted in a dark color with a marker.
  2. A bombard can be made from any large float, equipped with lead pellets or a sinker.
  3. A very convenient float is made from a disposable medical syringe, in which a small hole is made for attaching the fishing line. By filling the syringe with water, you can get a sinking bombard.

Installation of sbirulino

There are several options for the correct installation of such floats. Each of them takes into account their main function - they, due to their weight, should help to cast a light bait long-distance and then, due to the nature of their buoyancy, ensure fishing in different water layers.

Here is the classic installation method:

  1. A complete reel is installed on the rod. As a rule, with this fishing method, there must be at least 100 meters of fishing line on the reel.
  2. Having threaded the fishing line through all the rings, you need to attach a bombard to it, and then install a rubber shock absorber, which can be used as a piece of rubber. It is needed to soften the impact of heavy sbirulino on the lower parts of the equipment when casting.
  3. We attach a swivel to the end of the fishing line, and a leash to it. The leash is taken, as a rule, thinner than the main cord, but if you plan to catch pike, you need to take a tungsten leash.
  4. You need to attach a hook to the leash through a carabiner. If artificial bait is used, you need to attach an already equipped hook.

With this method of equipment, the bombard will always be higher than the rest of the equipment, but it can be secured in another way. Some anglers sometimes prefer an installation in which they fish on a bombard, the equipment of which is located above it.

This is not so difficult - the float is fixed motionless at the very end of the main line, and the leash with the hook is fixed above. So, in particular, fishing with a bombard can take place in the current, when the equipped hook, for one reason or another, needs to be floated down the river for some time.

Tackle for fishing with sbirulino

Fishing conditions, the shape of the reservoir, depth, current speed and the type of expected catch require their bombard weight and equipment.

Rod

A light, strong rod from 3.3 m is suitable. It is better if it has enlarged rings for passing line, which is convenient for long casts.

Modern plug spinning rods have good sensitivity. They are made of carbon fiber, have a beautiful design, a stainless steel reel holder, a cork handle, and thin titanium rings. Despite all their advantages, their price is low.

For bombards, choose a slow action rod, which is also called parabolic. Their advantage is that when a large fish bites, they bend to the handle.

This quality of gear allows you to use thin, strong fishing line, because The soft blank absorbs the jerks of the fish. Spinning rods of this configuration are called ultralights. Fishing with such a rod is a pleasure when a large specimen is caught on the hook.

The test must be selected based on the mass of the float and bait. In most cases, 35−50 g are used.

Coil

Inertia-free with a soft stroke is best suited. The more bearings, the smoother and more confident the output will be.

The line should be laid evenly on the spool without dips or overlaps for any type of wiring. The reel must fit at least 100 m.

Reels with a metal (for example, aluminum) body and spool will be more reliable. A high gear ratio (4.8−6) will make work easier.

Cheap product options lead to the formation of shoots and “beards”, which can ruin the pleasure of fishing. When winding cord or fishing line on such a reel, you should make an indent of 3-4 mm from the side.

To quickly restore gear or change equipment for a different type of fishing, several spools with fishing line of different thicknesses will be useful.

fishing line

When casting over short distances (10-20 m), monofilament is used. It stretches, but this does not increase the number of idle strikes and prey escapes.

If fishing conditions require using heavy loads and casting far, then it is better to equip the rod with a braided cord. Some fishermen believe that the fish are afraid of him, but most agree in the opposite opinion.

The cord can even be used in bright colors. This helps to track the position of the line and the wiring process.

The thickness of the monofilament is from 0.25, the thickness of the cord is from 0.18 mm. Braid is tougher and sometimes tears the fish’s lip. But a good rod and experience will help in this case.

Leash

If you have the skill to hold the reel or line when casting to avoid tangling, then the leash can be made from inexpensive monofilament.

Otherwise, you need to use fluorocarbon. This fishing line is no different in appearance from monofilament, but is more durable, wear-resistant, rigid and has less stretch. At the same time, it is almost invisible in water, since their refractive indices are similar.

A fluorocarbon leash has a “short” memory: if it gets tangled, it quickly recovers after correcting the situation.

Disadvantages of this fishing line:

  • it is less tensile strength and requires a larger diameter;
  • because of the rigidity, you need to knit knots in a special way;
  • more expensive than monofilament.

The length of the leash is 1.5-2 m. But there are other gear schemes.

Swivel

The swivel is needed to prevent the leash from twisting. This happens when spoons, flies, micro-feeders are used; caught fish can also spin the equipment.

Swivels from size No. 14 are suitable. You should not skimp on this mechanical element. Depending on the type of gear, you can use a single or triple swivel.

Hook

If baits made of silicone and natural origin are used as bait, then hooks will be required.

Each fisherman has many of them in sizes and shapes. Single hooks are the most common; doubles and tees are actively used.

The numbering of sizes often differs (depending on the manufacturer); when choosing, you need to take into account the diameter and length of the forend.

For predators, hooks with a long shank are used. For small fish such as roach, ruffs, and minnows, use micro hooks (2−4 mm); for large fish, 8 mm or more.

Lures used

Any baits that are used for spinning fishing, line fishing and fly fishing are suitable.

Along with bloodworms, worms, maggots, the following are used:

  • live bait (parts of caught fish);
  • red meat;
  • shrimp;
  • snails;
  • flies;
  • silicone (any type);
  • jig;
  • jigs;
  • wobblers;
  • light spinners (oscillating and spinning).

When fishing with a bombard, he also uses vegetable baits: corn, pearl barley, dough, bread. The main thing is to keep the weight of the bait under control; it should correspond to the sbirulino.

Front sights

The fly-shaped bait looks like insects that have fallen into the water. It is made from feathers, wool, and thread. Flies are dry and wet. Dry ones are those that float on the surface, and wet ones sink.

For dry ones, they create the appearance of having legs and wings. To prevent them from becoming saturated with water, they are lubricated with fat.

Flies that drown can mimic insect larvae. The most common of them are nymphs (larva), streamers (fry), emergers (intermediate form).

For sea fishing

All of the baits listed above are suitable for fishing at sea, you just need to keep in mind that if you want to catch larger prey, you should increase the size of the bait.

You can also add crabs, sea worms, mussels, small fish that are found in the water area, vibrotails, twisters, cranks that lift soil from the bottom.

Marine predators prefer bait with a fresh scent. Therefore, it is necessary to update the content on the hook more often.

Features of fishing using a bombard

In Italy and some other European countries, sbirulino fishing ranks first in popularity ratings . Local fishermen know very well how to catch this or that type of fish with a bombard using various baits and fishing methods.

This gear is primarily aimed at fishing from the shore in shallow areas of the reservoir, where aquatic vegetation and submerged snags are present. The correct technique for retrieving is crucial when fishing with this gear. It is recommended to bait using one of the following methods:

  • Smooth winding of the fishing line with minor twitching. The frequency and amplitude of twitching must be determined experimentally;
  • smooth slow retrieve, in which the bait should work independently;
  • amplitude jerks with the end of the rod followed by reeling.

Each of these methods is capable of attracting one or another predator living in a reservoir. It is recommended to cast with the required amplitude; if conditions allow, over the head.

It is important to remember that if fishing is done using a floating bombard, then the tip of the rod when fishing should be kept higher above the water, and when fishing with sinking models - as close to its surface as possible.

Bombarda, its equipment and highlights, video

Fishing for asp and pike perch with a bombard, video

Bombarda is an excellent tackle for catching fish. Another name for the bombard is sbirulino, which came from Italy, like the tackle itself. In this video, fishing experts will help you understand this gear and answer all your questions.

Experts will help you identify all the bombard equipment elements and help you learn how to select:

  • sliding weights for bombards;
  • types of floats for bombards;
  • installation of sbirulino;
  • lures for fishing with bombard (both artificial and natural);
  • rod;
  • coil;
  • fishing line

The bombard is a fairly universal tackle. It allows you to catch almost any fish, fish any horizon of a reservoir, and it is also irreplaceable when fishing with light bait, which sometimes weighs less than one gram and allows you to throw it over a long distance thanks to the float sinker.

This video will give a lot of interesting information that will be useful for both beginners and professionals. After all, no one can know everything, but you should always strive to expand your knowledge. And you can increase your knowledge about fishing with sbirulino, that is, bombard, by watching this video.

In general, it’s easy to make a bombard with your own hands.

Fishing technique

When fishing with a bombard, you can cast over a long distance, this is an advantage over other types of fishing. To catch cautious fish, you can cast the bombard from further positions.

A good video that talks about fishing with sbirulino.

Successful fishing for trout, which loves clean water, has its own secrets. For bait, it is better to take a red worm. After an unsuccessful bite, the water should calm down, as the fish may hide and fishing will lose its activity.

A lure with a thick petal is also used; it keeps the bait motionless. During some periods, fish are attracted to spoons.

Bombarda rod

A regular spinning rod is not suitable for this type of fishing, since its length will cause a lot of inconvenience when casting and retrieving. When choosing a fishing rod, you need to focus on a length over 3 m . In this case, in order to save money, a mast or feeder rod, or a Bolognese fishing rod is suitable.

The question arises, why the long rod?

To effectively fish with a bombard, you need to use a leash of at least 1.5 m long. Otherwise, the fish may be afraid of the sbirulino.

This rule is slightly leveled out during deep fishing , when the bait and sbirulino are under water. In such cases, the leash can be half as long and the rod itself, too. Well, if your finances allow it, then you can buy a special rod for bombarda and not fool yourself.

I can’t single out any special suggestions regarding the choice of reel The main thing is that it is reliable, and the diameter of the fishing line should not exceed Ø0.2 in order to reduce resistance in the water.

Bombard float (sbirulino)

Until recently, fishermen used an egg-shaped float, but now the bombard has replaced it because it has better aerodynamic ability. When using a bombard, the fisherman has an excellent opportunity to responsively control the flies.

Types of bombard: floating, slow-sinking and fast-sinking. The choice of one of the three types depends on the layer of water in which you are going to fish.

  • Floating bombard - used for surface fishing for sabrefish, asp or roach.
  • Slow-sinking - used to search for fish in the middle layers of water.
  • A fast -sinking one is needed for catching fish near the bottom. For example: perch or pike perch.

Leash for bombard

The length of the leash should be at least 1.5 m, and preferably 3 m. Only when fishing at depth can it be longer than 0.5 m, since the fish are not afraid of the bombard.

You can use any line on the leader, but fluorocarbon is best because it is invisible to fish in the water. Although, for better efficiency, undergrowth is used as in fly fishing equipment.

The leash is attached to the main fishing line using a swivel. It must be triple to avoid twisting of the leash.

Rigging a bombard Rigging a sbirulino is not very difficult, but there are some minor nuances. Firstly, the bombard is attached to the bait with its thickening. A bead is placed between the bombard and the swivel so that when casting the bombard does not break your knot. We also put a lock between the rod and the bombard so that when biting the line does not escape through the bombard.

And now I propose to collect all the knowledge together and watch a short video clip to facilitate the perception of the material read above.

How to fish with a bombard

Let's start with the casting problem . Since the length of the leash is quite long, it’s enough to just hook something extra on the fly and you won’t see a catch. That is why, when choosing a bombard casting technique , I advise you to combine the fly fishing technique of casting over the head and the mast casting technique.

Before the bombard lands on the water, you need to slow down the line so that the leash opens. Otherwise, he may simply get confused.

“Stop and go” technique , which in turn emits a drowning insect. Also read the article about how to catch sabrefish using a bombard.

How to assemble gear for catching chub with a bombard

How to assemble equipment for fishing with sbirulino:

  1. you need to secure the main line to the spool and wind it onto the reel;
  2. place a stopper on it;
  3. put on a bombard;
  4. then secure the second stopper;
  5. tie a swivel (you can use double or triple);
  6. attach a leash to the swivel (tie directly or mount through a carabiner).

The length of the leash must be adjusted to the situation. If you are using a long rod measuring around 4 m, a good option would be to use a 3-3.5 m . The longer it is, the more bites there will be. Accordingly, if the rod is shorter, you will have to reduce the size of the leash - to 0.5-1 m .

Also, short leashes have to be used when catching chub using a bombard with long rods if the equipment often gets tangled during casting. This can be due to wind or because power throws are required to send the rig a long distance.

This video shows how to mount fishing gear for fishing using sbirulino:

Bombard fishing methods

Bombarda (sbirulino) is a special float for spinning fishing, which has its own weight and is intended only for loading your light equipment equipped with flies, light twisters, wobblers or animal and vegetable baits - worms, maggots, bloodworms, etc.

Thanks to the bombard, you can throw a bait weighing less than a gram over a hundred meters and carry it near the surface of the water, in the thickness or even along the bottom.

First of all, bombarding still implies surface fishing and you can look for fish in shallow water, or you can catch exclusively riding fish.

In addition, fishing with a bombard allows you to fish regardless of the nature of the reservoir and the bottom topography.

It does not depend on what fish is currently active, at what depth, what living creatures and what insects it is currently feeding on, as it allows you to quickly switch from one fishing object to another.

We advise everyone who has not yet fished with a bombard to try this type of fishing, because it is very catchy and easy to use. After all, with the help of this simple tackle it is possible to cast bait over a long distance.

This is the difference from fly fishing gear, which requires a very long mastery, sometimes even years, in order to correctly cast a small bait over such a distance. In addition, it is possible to cast it from awkward positions, from behind bushes and trees, in order to catch cautious fish.

And although when casting and falling into the water, the bombard’s float creates more noise than when casting with fly fishing, the increase in the fished area of the reservoir makes up for this drawback, which was not available for fly fishing.

Bombard installation

Models of equipment with a bombard are assembled in the following order:

  1. The cord from the reel is threaded through the rings of the rod into a tube of sbirulino.
  2. Next you need a special rubber bead that will protect the assembly on the swivel from damage.
  3. After the rubber gasket, the fishing line or cord is tied on a swivel.
  4. On the other hand, a leash is attached to the product, which is shorter than the spinning rod.
  5. A hook (spinner, fly) is attached to the leash.

On Chekhonya

Chekhon does not respond to shiny baits. A hook is attached to the leash, on which earthworms or pearl barley, maggots, and twisters are attached.

Wiring should be done without haste, with a slight twitch.

For grayling

To catch grayling, the main thing is to choose the right fly. Fish are picky and change their preferences several times a day.

You will also have to select a wiring method. Sometimes you can try using streamers.

For garfish

They catch it in the sea from a boat, throwing a bombard as far as possible. There is a special fishing line for sea water. Experienced sports fishermen pull out garfish with 0.08 mm leashes, the length of which is more than 2.5 m.

As a bait, it is best to use a sea worm, fry-like pieces of fresh fish (can be garfish) 4-5 cm, chicken (with skin film). The hooks are small, sharp and hard. The wiring is preferably calm with pauses.

For asp

In the spring, asp is caught before sunset or in the morning at dawn. In autumn, the best time for fishing is in the afternoon, when the water has warmed up. At this time, regret is the most well-fed.

Artificial flies, streamers, and wobblers serve as bait. The bait is slowly pulled towards the shore with pauses, gradually increasing the speed. Advantageous places are holes, snags, pitfalls.

For pike

For this predator it is better to use shiny baits. During the feeding season, pike are unpredictable and can catch both on the surface and in the depths. You need to start with a floating bombard.

The wiring is carried out along the reeds, closer to the shore, with stops. If the width of the reservoir allows, you can fish it from the opposite side. If flies are used, special wire loops are installed to prevent snagging on the grass.

For perch

This bombard fishing accepts all baits. The hooks must be stiff so that they can penetrate the lip or catch on the gills.

If the perch is inclined to feed, then it does not matter how the wiring is carried out. For fishing further from the shore, you can use a float with a popper.

For zander

It is good to catch pike perch along sand bars. If the fish is active, then it will attack most baits on the surface or upper layer of water. The weight of the bombard must be selected.

Spoons, wobblers, bite activators are the most preferred means. It is better to go fishing when there is a moderate wind and stable atmospheric pressure.

For carp

In clear water, several hooks can be used to catch fish. Natural or imitated nozzles are suitable. Take with you a worm, maggot, corn, bloodworms, pearl barley.

Postings should be done briefly, with long pauses. Fishing is reminiscent of old-fashioned bottom fishing. It’s a good idea to use different feeders with flavors.

On ide

The diameter of the leash depends on the professionalism of the fisherman. The thinner the better.

Suitable baits include a grasshopper, a fly, a piece of red meat, or you can use flies (even several pieces at once).

You need to look for prey along the duckweed, in the windows of the reeds, and periodically check the clean water.

Lures

When fishing with a bombard, an angler can use a variety of types of bait. An angler can attach a wide variety of natural baits to a hook:

  • worm;
  • maggot;
  • dough;
  • bloodworm;
  • corn;

Lures for fishing with bombard:

  • flies;
  • small twisters,
  • vibrotails,
  • foam fish;
  • foam balls;
  • wobblers (usually surface);
  • almost any animal and plant attachments.

Anglers successfully catch predators, as well as fish that can be considered predatory using small spoons, jig baits and even small wobblers.

You can fish with a bombard tackle :

  • pike;
  • perch;
  • ide;
  • chub.

Lures for catching chub with a bombard

When fishing with sbirulino, you can use almost any natural and artificial bait from the arsenal of floaters, bottom fishers, spinning rods and fly fishers. How to choose depends both on the fishing conditions and on personal preferences. Most often they use spinners, flies, live insects, and other natural baits.

Spoons

The chub responds well to small spinners, numbers from 00 to 2, less often up to 3. Using a bombard, these light baits can be cast to any distance, and then perform standard retrieves.

The colors of the spinners may vary. Silver or yellow “naturals” also work, as well as bright baits, reminiscent in color of the colorful insects that the chub loves so much, and dark black and brown models. It is best to add spinners of different colors to your arsenal, so that when fishing you can alternate them, selecting the best ones.

Front sights

To catch chub with bombard, as a rule, flies are used that imitate the natural food of this fish at the moment . But other models can also work well - they can be spied on by chubs who better know the body of water chosen for fishing, or selected experimentally.

Komarik

One of the simplest flies, named after the insect it imitates. To make it yourself, you need to wrap dabbing or strips of foam around the shank of the hook, and place a rooster feather brush near the ring of the hook.

Palmer

Another great chub fly. Used in dry and wet versions.

Parachute

A fly, which consists of a body that sinks into the water after being cast, and a fairly large brush that remains on the surface.

Beetles

In addition to artificial flies for fishing with sbirulino, you can also use live insects, which the chub is currently feeding on, as bait. For example, cockchafer or grasshopper are good for fishing with a bombard .

The advantage of natural insects is that they will always look more attractive to the chub than any artificial flies. In addition, if the beetle is still alive and active, it will create movement in the water, and this has a very strong effect on the fish. These baits also have a drawback - they must be collected, wasting your time.

Chafer

Natural baits

In addition to insects, other natural baits can be used when fishing with a bombard. Any attachments that are used for chub when fishing with a float rod or with a donkey are suitable:

  • bloodworm;
  • maggot;
  • worm;
  • steamed cereal grains;
  • dough and so on.

Tandem

To achieve better catches, you can use two different baits at the same time when catching chub with a bombard. These combinations are called tandems. Advantages of this approach:

  • the chances are doubled that the chub will notice the “treat” offered to it and go on the attack;
  • By trying two different baits at the same time, it is convenient to determine which of them is the most catchy at the moment.

The disadvantages of tandems include the fact that they are a little more difficult to knit and, more importantly, they are a little more difficult to manage. When using two lures at the same time, the risk of snagging increases. But there is nothing particularly difficult about tandem fishing, and the increasing chub catches compensate for this effort.

Instead of two baits, you can attach more to the rig below the bombard – 3, 4 or even 5. But usually no more than three are used.

Fishing with a bombard video

The “Hunting and Fishing” TV channel presents a weekend guide, the “Cool Place” program. Every week, program experts explore Russian water bodies in search of the most catchable areas with a description of the species of fish living in local waters and the characteristics of their fishing. The overall picture is complemented by a detailed description of the route, allowing every interested viewer to get ready for the trip and try their luck at fishing in these reservoirs.

Choosing a place to catch chub using a bombard

You need to catch chub with a bombard where it is easiest for the fish to find food and where it feels comfortable. Locations vary depending on the season:

  • in spring, chub can be caught well in the coastal zone, in shallow waters, where the water is better warmed by the sun - this is where life is in full swing at this time;
  • in summer , fish disperse throughout the reservoir; at this time, you can successfully catch them with sbirulino both close to the shore and in the depths;
  • in the fall, the fish, preparing for winter, go to the depths; only at the beginning of autumn the chub can still feed in shallow waters.

Reference. To determine where on the river there are chub feeding in the upper layers of the water, you can throw crumbled bread crusts in an interesting place so that they float with the flow. If there is an active fish here, it will show itself and start collecting them.

Bombard tackle, or sbirulino

This tackle is well known to Volga fishermen, because it was born there - in the Middle Volga. Many people are surprised by the new names of this tackle - bombarda, sbirulino and others, while for them, since childhood, it has always been bubble fishing.

Instead of a bubble filled with water to give the gear the required depth, and cambrics with hooks on leashes as bait, fishermen are now using a more civilized approach.

This is a float surrounded in a certain way, and all the variety of modern artificial baits from streamers and flies, to wobblers and spinners.

A bombard float, similar to a glass bubble, is most often made of transparent plastic for low visibility in the water. And for fishing in the dark, the bombard can be luminescent (glows in the dark).

Some bombard floats have an adjustable weight system. Depending on the weight of the load and the location of the sinkers in the float (center of gravity), the equipment may have different properties that affect the nature of the wiring. The most common types of bombard rigs are shown in the pictures and photos.

The wiring of the bombard depends on the type of installation and many other factors, but this is another topic beyond the scope of this review.

Perch, sabrefish, chub, ide and asp are caught using a bombard. Other fish are often included in the bycatch.

How to fish with a bombard?

Based on the float, gear is prepared for various types of fishing. The bombard is well suited for both fishing rods and spinning rods.

Fishing technique

Sbirulino is used for fishing with lures of different types, shapes and sizes. Make smooth and slow retrieves, twitch the end of the spinning rod and tighten the line. The moment of bite is easily felt due to the soft design, since the fishing line passes through the float tube.

The weight of the float allows you to use a fly as bait. You can explore large areas of the water area while standing in one place. After casting, you need to wait a little for the bait to drop to the set depth and then make the retrieve.

Improvised movements of the rod attract different fish. Depending on the situation, the following actions are appropriate:

  • pull-ups with short pauses;
  • monotonous wiring;
  • throwing the equipment up;
  • small twitches;
  • "trembling" of the fishing line.

For long casts, you will have to practice a little, and then choose which option is most suitable: over the head or from the side, fly fishing or “mast” cast. To prevent the float from getting tangled when it falls on the water, you need to hold the line a little.

Bombards, which sink slowly, are suitable for any thickness of water and long distances; surface sbirulinos allow you to catch perch and pike within a radius of 0.5 m.

From the boat

Both metal and PVC boats are suitable for bombards. A fish finder will increase your chances of catching. If the boat has a hard bottom, then you can fish while standing, which increases the casting range and expands the fishing sector.

This kind of fishing allows you to find changes in depth, edges, bottom unevenness, and swim far into the reeds. Having a watercraft helps you fish from different sides near snags, choose the leeward side or the strength of the current.

It's easy to change the angle of the line from the boat. The most catchy trajectories need to be memorized. The predator often attacks the bait as soon as it hits the water. Therefore, you need to be ready to hook at any time.

When there is a current or strong wind, sometimes fishing is done by casting against the wind. The float pulls up behind the boat and plays.

On a strong current

In areas with strong currents, there is a high probability of catching larger fish, because... juveniles are unable to fight the powerful flow. In such areas it is good to catch chub, saberfish, asp and ide. The tackle needs to be prepared for fish from 0.5 kg, and taking into account strong resistance.

If the reservoir is unfamiliar, then it is difficult to choose a good place the first time. Often the most catchy area is the transition between rapids and smooth water. Early in the morning you can see where the fish are playing.

The bait in the pockets must withstand rapid washing out. If you use oils, you should not spare them.

During the current, you can place several hooks with different types of bait. In some cases, simply multi-colored cambrics from wires are suitable, which will create the illusion of live bait.

From the shore, casting is done at an angle of more than 90˚ (against the current).
