Review of fishing in Grodno and Grodno region

For lovers of nature and fishing, the Neman has the status of a living being. “Old Man” is offendedly silent, not giving fish to incompetent fishermen, and others tearing gear on snags and bushes. The length of the river within Belarus from the source to the confluence of the Chernaya Gancha River is 431 km. The Neman freezes in the second half of December and opens in the 3rd decade of March. The maximum ice thickness is 65 cm. Spring ice drift lasts 7-15 days. The flood lasts, as a rule, from mid-March to the end of May.

There is the greatest variety of fish here: in addition to the full range of river predators and “vegetarians”, valuable species are asp, pike perch, kelp (barbel), dace, and below the confluence of the Viliya River, sturgeon come to spawn.

in spring

Below the confluence of the Berezina, oxbow lakes may remain under 30 centimeters of ice in early March. And in the area of the village named after Shchorsa and near Stolbtsy, the water is open, only along the banks there are small edges *fproryb*. Those who manage to catch something before mid-April wait quietly. And the rest monitor the height of the flood almost every day, and rarely does anyone find an approach to the river. In May the flood goes away. Between the Ivyevsky and Novogrudok districts they notice an asp playing. In the grass, under flooded bushes, echo sounders “catch” pikes.

In summer

In June, along the oxbow lakes and in the river, the best tackle is spoons. Their movement does not frighten, but attracts. Correctly executed steps at the desired depth will not leave the kukan empty. In August there are very hot days, but the fish do not seem to have time to feel this and behave predictably. But it’s still better these days to be on the river in the evening, an hour after sunset or early in the morning from 6, 6-30 and until 8-9 in the morning. There is information that in the evening below Slobodka it bites greedily and often. If you accurately scatter the balls of bait in the right place, then a sandwich of pasta, corn and maggot served on a feeder can tempt both chub and white bream.

in autumn

Anyone who loves to listen to the silence of the night knows that there is no silence on the river even at night. Hearing, heightened by darkness, distinguishes a variety of sounds. They say that on Verkhny they say that night fishing in September is the most catchy. Where? The happiness of bites is shrouded in mystery. Some even believe that cunning people deliberately name places where they supposedly “do not catch” in order to scare others away from the catchable area. Should we trust such reports, or should we still try our luck in these places? But it is known for certain that in the village of Stolbtsy you can profit from large bream in the morning, and at night, for luck, try to load the feeder with tench.

Vokovysk

If you are interested in fishing in Vokovysk, then you are completely right. After all, the chalk lakes that are scattered like mushrooms around the city of Russia have always attracted the attention of fishermen. Just look at the Ross and Volpa rivers. In these reservoirs, perch, roach, bream, tench, rudd, catfish, crucian carp, roach and pike bite. It cannot be said that river and lake fish are absent here.

With the arrival of March, it is best to fish in the upper reaches. Unlike the middle stream, the underbream and roach will be larger here. In the Volkovysk park, fishermen are already catching crucian carp on almost the last strong ice. But this must be done with extreme caution. You don’t have to go to Lavrinovichi until the ice melts. With the arrival of April, white fish begin to bite on various baits. Excellent fishing on Karalino if you fish from the bridge. And with the arrival of the May holidays, all fishermen go exclusively to Ross and Volpa , to Pozharki and old chalk quarries.

When summer comes, be sure to follow the garden area to the large quarry. There, in the village of Loza, you can catch an excellent catch. You can go to Khatkivtsi for pike and bream.

With the onset of cold weather, in autumn, it is recommended to fish in Sventitsy and Khatkovtsy. Although these reservoirs are different, some patterns can be traced. So, you should go out for bream early in the morning, towards the dam. A large bite of roach, crucian carp and carp can be on the float, and on the nipples, and on the feeder. It all depends solely on your skills and, of course, luck.

In the winter season, you can catch excellent bream at the Zelvinsky Reservoir. They love groundbait in the form of breadcrumbs with herbs. Winter fishing is also good near Swedish Mountain, where the chalk quarries are located. After the cold weather ends, pike and perch bite well in Lavrinovichi.

Bridges

Ozeryanskoye Lake

Ozeryanskoye Lake

You can have excellent fishing here both on the Dublyansky reservoir and on Lake Ozeryanskoye . The rivers Zelvyanka, Lukonitsa, Ross, Dubnitsa, Chernyavka and many others are also full of fish. It all depends entirely on your preferences. Because you can catch pike, roach, bream, carp and sometimes perch. Even catfish were seen in these places.

Svislach

Komsomolskoye Lake

On Aranskaya the bream and roach bite well. And if you have a spinning rod with you, then you can catch a lot of perch. Be sure to visit the place where the water falls into Komsomolskoye Lake . There are many predatory fish there, including large whitefish. Sometimes pike perch will turn up. Often fishermen go to the village of Novy Dvor . The fishing there is also good.

But I would still like to warn that this particular river is considered the most polluted in the entire country. Therefore, is it worth eating such fish? The choice is yours!

Zelva

Zelva

Zelva

fishing on the Zelva Reservoir from the villages of Berezhki, Karolin, Kosheli, Novoselki and directly from the regional center of Zelva itself. This reservoir is home to:

  • roach;
  • bream;
  • perch;
  • pike;
  • crucian carp;
  • white bream;
  • gudgeon;
  • carp.

With the arrival of the autumn period of the year, you can please yourself with a solid catch of pike from one place. At Carolina, even with a live bait rod you can catch pike. Although experienced fishermen at this time of year advise using modern jig-type baits.

In November, everyone goes fishing to Zelvenskoye .

December here is called the month of perch fishing. There is even a win-win place - on the left side of the dam, where the last garbage can is located. At least someone is always catching there. But maybe you'll get lucky. , pike go well , and bream do well with maggots .

Shchuchin

Since the region has a huge number of lakes, tributaries of the Neman River , Zheludyanka , Lebeda , Dikusha and many others. If we talk about the fish that live there, then it is not much different from other reservoirs of the Grodno region. These are fish:

  • pike;
  • carp;
  • white bream;
  • crucian carp;
  • zander;
  • roach.

in winter

In December, when the water is already icy, bream and chub stop responding to bait and bait. But ide behaves differently. In water even below 5 degrees it is quite active *predator*. It is also caught in the cold. A reminder for those who are going fishing through the Pershai Depression. If in this anomalous place the atmospheric pressure does not block your ears, it is better to turn back. But rarely does anyone do this - an amateur always hopes for luck, and most of the path has already been passed. In February, the ice in the Morino-Belitsa area is still strong. But at the place where the Molchadi River flows into the Neman, three meters of strong ice from the shore, a large gully forms. You can sit on the ice and fish in the water! Fishing on the Neman River - how much?

Fishing from a boat on the Neman River

This fishing took place on August 30, 2014. My friend and I chose the Neman River because we needed a compromise - my friend is a submariner and I am a spinner. It was decided to arrive at the river as early as possible, so we left at 4 o’clock in the morning, and by just over 5 we were there. Based on a tip from other submariners, we identified a promising section of the river in the area of the village of Lunino.

Having driven several kilometers along the river in search of a suitable place to launch the boat, we were able to find only a conditionally acceptable approach to the water. Throughout this section of the river we were accompanied by a steep and overgrown bank. Before turning off the engine, we paid attention to the readings of the on-board thermometer - only 3 degrees Celsius, and the clock showed half past five.

Of course, we looked at the forecast, but the temperature there was nowhere near as low. It doesn’t matter, we just forgot the electric bag, so there was something to do and warm up. In the process of pumping up and preparing the boat, we periodically glanced at the river surface, hoping for splashes of a predator. Something was splashing, but these were clearly not pike exits.

So, the boat and gear are ready, it’s time to start fishing. A friend swam upstream to hunt, but I decided to slowly float downstream and fish promising places. At first glance, it seemed to me that I looked a little funny in a boat, because the river is not wide at all and crossing it from bank to bank is a mere trifle. The echo sounder also caused affection, since the bottom was already clearly visible. At that moment I thought, “Why did you take a boat with an electric motor? Why did you take the echo sounder?” Well, probably because I just really wanted to. I slowly stop thinking about it and start fishing.

In shallow sections of the river, of which there were 80%, I cast along the coastal vegetation. According to the submariner, this is where the pike stands. On the opposite bank I met several anglers who shared information about what, where and how to fish. This information was completely consistent with my guesses: you need to fish with a light jig up to seven grams, casts need to be made along the coastal vegetation.

After fishing for about half a kilometer, I was no longer so skeptical about fishing from a boat. In this area there is practically no opportunity to approach from the shore and perform a normal cast. I was warmed by the thought that this was where I would catch my fish, because there was less pressure here. The bite did not take long to arrive, but the result, of course, was a laugh to the chickens. We carefully remove the pencil and send it to grow up in its native element.

I continue to fish the coastal zone, gradually going downstream. Quite interesting places appear, with depths and reverse currents. I decide to turn on the echo sounder and check the depth. In the first place the depth was from 1.6 to 2.2 meters, which is quite interesting. I try to break through with a jig, then with several wobblers, but to no avail.

A very promising place appears on the horizon, where the channel makes a sharp turn, forming a reverse current on one bank and a small old man on the opposite bank. On the surface there is a brazen fight between the fry - this is an asp. I decide to go through the fishing spot first on an echo sounder to better understand what to fish with. The readings of the device record depths of up to 4 meters and a large accumulation of large fish near the surface of the water. First I try to catch the asp using small long-type spinners and small wobblers, but there is no result. I think the roughness of the tackle and the caution of the asp are to blame. She still needs a more delicate approach, which I am not ready for. I switch to a variety of jigs, trying to break through all the holes and drops, but everything also turns out to be unanswered. I try all suitable wobblers, with wiring both upstream and downstream, but there is no result.

The sun is already high and the temperature has clearly risen beyond 20 degrees, it’s noon. From afar, the howl of an alarm begins to be heard, it’s my friend calling me to the base, because I have the keys to the car. I put it in fifth gear and quite quickly rush against the current towards the starting point. At the base I was met by a submariner friend with a result of just one pike. According to his information, there are a lot of pike, mostly small, but there are also decent specimens, but due to testing the new gun, all of them were missed.

We have lunch and decide to return to my point together. I again use all the suitable arsenal, but to no avail. I swim up to a friend and he shares his impressions of how he missed a trophy pike a meter long with a banal mistake. It turns out it’s still there, and where I thought it was, but for some reason I couldn’t take it. In general, there is something to think about. We decide to finish fishing and return to base.

I liked fishing on the Neman River despite the lack of qualifying fish in the catch. Still, the Neman is a “thin” river, here you need to know the places well, how to fish and what to fish for.
