The banks of our reservoirs are not ideally clean. Many people who relax in nature forget to clean up various rubbish after themselves. Savvy fishermen have learned to use plastic bottles to their advantage. With their help you can make inexpensive, but very catchy gear. Pike fishing with a bottle is already very popular. But in addition to toothy fish, you can successfully catch pike perch and catfish, carp and carp. What is the secret of the catchability of the tackle, and how does fishing with a bottle differ from circles?
Description of the method of fishing on a bottle
The principle of fishing with a bottle is in many ways similar to fishing for a predator with mugs. However, there are a number of differences.
- To catch fish with a bottle, you only need to buy a fishing line, hook and sinker. Therefore, the tackle has a low manufacturing cost.
- You can complete the gear with any plastic bottles of 1, 1.5 or 2 liters. You can find them right on the shore of the reservoir.
- In case of loss of gear (dragged by a fish or blown away by the wind), a similar product can be made directly while fishing in a few minutes.
- The bottle can simultaneously act as a reel for storing a supply of fishing line and float. Once the fish is hooked, the plastic container makes it possible to tire out large prey and make it easier to land.
- Fishing for circles is carried out using a watercraft, but tackle based on PET bottles can also be thrown from the shore.
- Bottle fishing allows you to catch not only pike, perch and pike perch, but also carp or carp.
How to catch pike with a bottle
A pike fishing bottle works the same way as a circle. The advantage of this device is that it is easier to manufacture and can be used even by novice fishermen.
The best time to fish with a bottle is during Indian summer. At this time, for successful fishing in this way, you need to choose a large body of water in which large animals live. If you plan to use live bait, you need to choose a river or lake that contains a lot of pike, perch, and pike perch. It is not recommended to choose small bodies of water, because... It will be more difficult to choose a bait that will definitely bite.
Having chosen a suitable place for fishing, take care of the reliability of attaching the live bait. Place it on the hook using one of the following methods:
- Behind the back: the hook is inserted under the dorsal fin so as to securely fix the bait without damaging the spine. The latter can lead to the fish stopping moving and the pike not seeing it in the water.
- By the lip: the hook is fixed on the upper lip of the bait so that it cannot come off during movement.
- By the gills: the end of the hook for attaching to the fishing line is inserted into the mouth cavity of the bait, brought out through the gills, then secured. With this method, the baitfish is not injured, so it can attract predators longer.
- By the tail: to secure the live bait in this way, you must first wrap its tail with thread, then thread the hook under it.
Equipment options
For successful bottle fishing, you can use different equipment options. Each fisherman can make tackle taking into account the characteristics of the reservoir and the type of fish he wants to catch. Let's look at the two most popular equipment options.
Bottle for fishing from a boat
“Bottle tackle” for fishing from a watercraft resembles the equipment of a circle. But due to some features of the plastic container, fishermen have to resort to certain tricks.
- To complete the gear, an empty, undamaged PET bottle with a capacity of 1 to 2 liters is suitable.
- A piece of fishing line 8-15 m long is attached to the plug area. The thickness of the monofilament should be in the range of 0.3-0.4 mm.
- A sliding sinker weighing up to 100 g is mounted on the fishing line.
Recommendation! The weight of the sinker depends on the size of the bait fish, the depth at the fishing point and the presence of current.
- A knotted loop is made at the end of the base for mounting the leash. If the tackle is created for catching pike, then a metal leash is mounted. In other cases, you can use a piece of fluorocarbon fishing line.
Photo 1. Equipment for a bottle.
- The hook is also selected taking into account the planned trophy. You can use trebles and doubles on pike, it is more convenient to catch pike perch using a double or single hook, and for perch or carp a small single hook is required.
- To prevent the line from spontaneously coming off the bottle, an elastic band is attached to the container. It will act as a bead after winding the fishing line.
The moment of a bite can be determined in different ways. Some fishermen paint longitudinal stripes with paint. Others mount flags that are used on winter girders. A leaf spring is tied to the bottom of the bottle, and the flag itself is bent towards the neck and secured with several turns of fishing line. When the bite occurs, the fish will begin to reel in the fishing line, the spring will straighten, and the flag will rise above the surface of the water.
Advice! In order for the bottle to be positioned bottom up, it is filled 2/3 with water and lowered with the neck down.
Shore fishing tackle
Bottle fishing from the shore is carried out using more primitive gear.
- The plastic bottle must be tightly tied to a strong nylon cord. It will connect the gear with the coastal zone.
Photo 2. Strong rope.
- 4-8 m of fishing line is wound around the bottle.
- The sinker can be tied motionless to the end of the base.
- A leash made of steel or fluorocarbon is mounted above a load of 30-50 cm.
On a note! When catching catfish with a bottle, the rope is connected to the main fishing line and attached to the container in such a way that the bottle can come off when bitten.
The equipment can be mounted rigidly to the plastic using adhesive tape or electrical tape. In this case, the bite will be determined by the movement of the bottle, which will act as a float.
Shore fishing allows you to throw several tackles into promising places. Each of them can be attached to tree branches or bushes and left overnight. And in the morning all that remains is to get the gear and enjoy the catch.
How to make a tackle bottle - instructions
If the tackle was purchased at a fishing store, it will not bring as much pleasure as a DIY design. Let's consider the "makushatnik" design. Here we note the presence of pressed sunflower cake and various flavoring and aromatic additives. To build the equipment we will need:
- 5-7 centimeter leash;
- Steel hooks 2-3 numbers;
- At least half a meter of fishing line with a cross-section of at least 0.5 mm;
- The top and holes in it in the middle and recesses for hooks;
- Swallow or triangle weight from 100 g and above. The Volga is famous for its strong current, so it is better to use a heavier load. In places with weak currents, you can use an 80 g sinker;
- Bead stopper.
Advice! Finger guards are a solution to problems with rubbed and cut fingers from fishing line when fishing for large prey. Special accessories are sold in fishing stores and are designed for carp fishing on a bottle.
We mount a simple tackle:
- We thread the main line into the sinker hole.
- At one end of the fishing line we knit a cambric into a loop.
- Detach 10 cm from the other end and place a bead that will serve as a stopper for the bait.
- For crocheting we use fasteners.
- To remove the fishing line, we thread a knot through the clasp and hide it in the crown.
The main line must be wound around the neck of the bottle into a narrow recess. On the other side of the bottle we stretch the elastic band. We put the fishing line under the elastic band and secure it. To give the bottle an inclined vertical position, add a little water. When the carp begins to violently break away from the hook, it tears off the elastic and fishing line, reels it in and turns the bottle over on its own turn. You can hook the fish by swimming to the bottle on a boat, or from the shore (but first tie a lot of fishing line to it).
When the fish are ready, we refuel the boat, get to the fishing spot and cast out, waiting for a bite. The soaking makuha periodically attracts our carp. He will try and spit out pieces until he hits the hook. Next, there will be jerks in attempts to free yourself from the sharp sting. We hook the fish and pull it out.
In simple words! The bottle serves as a float - it can also be cast from the shore by first tying a thick fishing line to it and setting up the equipment at the other end.
Fishermen note that the structure of the gear when catching carp with a bottle is not as complicated as it seems at first glance. It’s worth trying to make the rig yourself and you won’t have to wait long for bites from large carp.
Features of fishing from a boat and shore
The technique for catching fish with plastic bottles depends on whether the fishing will take place on the shore or on a boat. In each option, success largely depends on the right location. Promising areas are the boundaries of clear water and algae, the junction of the river with the oxbow lake, bays, entrances and exits from holes, channel edges, and snags.
Shore fishing technique
When fishing from the shore, the angler must not only think about the casting distance of the equipment, but also about the likelihood of successful reeling. Since there is no fishing rod in the gear, the coastal area must be clean. In this case, you will be able to remove the fish from the water without any problems.
- Before throwing equipment into the water, it is important to prepare thoroughly. First you need to unwind the tackle.
- The nylon cord is carefully laid in rings on a clean bank. Its end is tied to a driven peg or bush.
- The equipment is fixed on the bottle. The container is filled with water.
- Live bait or other bait is attached to the hook.
- The bottle goes into the water.
The fisherman just has to wait for the bite.

Features of fishing from a boat
The watercraft provides the angler with more opportunities for fishing with “bottle tackle”. You should start by choosing an interesting site. Bottles can be installed along the shore or in a checkerboard pattern. In any case, you should choose some landmarks so as not to lose your gear.
This is interesting! Some fishermen stretch a rope, which is secured with two anchors or long stakes. All gear is located along this line.
The boat must be positioned downwind. After installing the first gear, you can start equipping the second bottle. During this time, the boat will be carried to the required distance of 10-15 m. Installation of the entire “squadron” will require a minimum of physical effort and time.
After the bite, it is important to approach the triggered gear as quietly as possible. Otherwise, the fish will get scared and make another jerk. To remove a large trophy from the water, a landing net is required.
Summer bait for catfish
During the summer, various living creatures actively reproduce in the water, so catfish do not have problems with food. During this period, predators prefer to lie down on the bottom during the daytime, and go hunting at night or in cloudy weather. Many anglers say that the best time to catch catfish is in the fog.

In July - August, this predatory fish bites best on the following baits of animal origin: live bait, locusts, mollusks, frogs and crawlers.
Important! Frogs can be thrown into the water not too far - the catfish will swim up to them on its own. But for live bait fishing, it is better to use a long rod to cast the bait as far as possible.
Catching different types of fish with a bottle
Most often, plastic containers with equipment are used for catching large species of fish. Each of them requires an individual approach.
- You can catch pike using a variety of types of gear, including hooks, mugs, and bottles. A characteristic feature of the toothy bite is a two-stage process. First, she grabs the bait across the body. At this moment, the fish releases the line, which triggers the flag. Then the predator begins to turn the prey over in its mouth and swallow the fish. It is at this time that cutting must be done.
- The pike perch usually immediately grabs the bait in its mouth and begins to swallow it. Therefore, you can hook immediately when the alarm goes off.
- The catfish bite is very powerful; large fish can drag the tackle into snags if the angler misses the bite.
- When fishing for carp and carp with bottles, it is important to monitor the installed gear. These fish are capable of a long jerk, so the bottle can instantly disappear from the angler’s line of sight.
How to fish with a bottle - carp fishing
In this video there is fishing, where I catch carp with a bottle and a float rod. What was interesting was the very fact of catching fish with this tackle, and I assembled it entirely myself. As a result, I can say that everything worked out. The carps caught on a bottle were larger than on a float rod, I attribute this to the bait, namely the fact that the bottle tackle was equipped with a boilie, and on the float I baited maggots with corn.

TheDannyProcket You know... I’m sitting here, working with papers and just relaxing, watching you enjoy fishing. And THEN, after so many years, the desire to go fishing exploded in me (it’s still a vacation). I went to a paid pond for 250 UAH. per day, sat for 9 hours... and 1 small carp, the size of a palm... the fish didn’t bite at all. Because of this, it burned significantly, although panthenol helped)))) PS It seems that the only fish in your videos are such wild boars).
Vladyslav Bukhan Your crucian carp bite more than these carp. Try extreme carp fishing, on a float in a snag where carps starting from five kg bite, there are such paid sites, who cares which one you fish on, it will be top content). Vadim Leontyev Seryoga zdarova. Excellent fishing, the fishing was a success, what can I say) I wanted to ask, are you going to go fishing for tench somehow? Or don’t you have a pond with it anywhere? Great fishing!!! Nikita Kisialeuski Well, how can you not like such boars. Antonio Grein Dead-locked weights 80 g, leashes made of fishing line 40 cm and boiled peas on hooks, as well as for feeding. You will swim for bites every 10 minutes. Like.

The choice of bait is determined by the type of fish you plan to catch. For predators, live bait is required, and for large peaceful fish species, bulk baits or baits are suitable.
- The best live bait is considered to be those fish that are caught in a specific body of water. These can be crucian carp, bleak, roach, small perch. But if the task is to catch a trophy catfish, then a large crucian carp or ide weighing up to 1 kg is attached to the hook.
- You can hunt for carp or carp using vegetable baits such as potatoes, peas, and corn. Fish react well to boilies if anglers have managed to introduce them to this bait. Baits include shell meat, a bunch of worms, and leeches.
Catching different types of fish with a bottle can be successful if the angler chooses the location and equipment responsibly. It is important to use even primitive tackle correctly, then the catch will include trophy fish.
